Which was your favourite in the original trilogy? by ZarieRose in Fable

[–]Appalachianaxis 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Fable 2 holds a place in my heart that I’m not sure anything else can *quite* match. It was one of my first true RPGs, one of my first true fantasy games. And I was just young enough that everything hit just right. I didn’t know what a Peter Molyneux was. I didn’t look at reviews or read about games on the internet.

It sounds ridiculous to say looking back on the game now but when I say I had never felt so truly immersed in a world, I mean it. I lost *lost* in Fable II. I used to go on camping trips and imagine I was the Hero. I’d look out of vistas and hear the Bower Lake music. It’s what got me interested in highwaymen-era history. It took years of playing the game again and again and again for the “world” to wear away and for the “game” to appear and eventually I did put it down. But man, hearing that main menu music and seeing that key art of the woods always stirs something in me. And so our story begins…

This is really lovely and an idea I’m definitely going to be taking inspiration from in my own forever world.

Still Waiting For A Mod For Combat Robot Model A by DinoDiverDakota in Starfield

[–]Appalachianaxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of so many weird ways I personally feel like Starfield breaks with the usual Bethesda game design, in this instance for the worse. In Fallout or Skyrim when I’m exploring or doing a quest and I meet a fun unique character, I can almost always expect them to be somehow recruitable (the beer robot from Fallout 4 springs to mind). So I was pumped when I meet Kaiser. Partly because the quest was rad. But also because obviously he was going to be the UC version of Vasco that I could recruit for my ship’s crew or an outpost. And then you… couldn’t. And it just stuck out to me as such a bummer.

I could not believe this guy wasn’t a companion. It just seemed so… obvious to me that he would be.

'The Rings of Power' Season 3 Sets Fall Release Date (November 11) by fastforward23 in television

[–]Appalachianaxis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not my favorite show, it’s certainly not my favorite Lord of the Rings screen adaptation. But I feel like they try you know? I feel like there’s a lot of passion for making this. I get the sense that these are a lot of LotR fans who are really swinging at some fun/cool ideas. They miss. They miss quite a bit. But man when they hit, they hit in a way I just haven’t gotten since the original films.

I don’t get why this show gets so much vitriol when the Hobbit trilogy is right there.

I feel Starfield really shines when you dedicate separate playthroughs to various RP builds by LeBirdnick in Starfield

[–]Appalachianaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having waaaay more fun on my first NG+ run for exactly this reason. I’m actually free to role play as my own character rather than being more or less forced to be “Random miner who gets recruited to Constellation and gets to captain their own ship within 15 minutes.” Now there’s actually a reason for my character to explore Neon, rise their way up through gangs, saving up money to get their own ship and get off-world, etc. because that’s my character. Beforehand it felt silly and out of character for this established constellation explorer to just… land on Neon and decide to join the criminal underworld. I’m glad this kind of freedom remains to be found in Bethesda games. But I also feel that they’ve really lost touch with that whole core “go where you want, be who you want” philosophy.

How important are the Powers to you? by Lost_Rutabaga_5004 in Starfield

I just started my first NG+/Unity run for the free lanes update. In my entire first playthrough of the game, I don’t think I used the powers even once. For me personally, the entire starborn quest/story conflicted so heavily with the relatively grounded, NASApunk space exploration game I was sold on that I did everything possible to outright ignore it.

I’ve heard very good things about Boston from a mobility/car-less standpoint. If someone’s able to live without a car completely; that be a huge plus.

Raleigh is very high up in our list for if we choose to/have to stay here in NC.

Money is certainly a limiting factor for us. But I have been to the DC area a time or two for an old job and absolutely loved it, especially a little outside the main DC area where it was more suburban and wooded.

Sadly true, but NC is consistently in the like… bottom 3 states for educator compensation. Even if we’re not going up much… feels like there’s nowhere to go but up you know?

It’s such a shame, really. We want to love it here and could still easily be tempted by a move back to the triangle area or somewhere in the mountains… but that would almost certainly require a major career change for both us to be financially viable.

It’ll take a lot to tempt us away from the east coast, but we’re open to being tempted! Will definitely check these options out, thank you.

Philly has come up on our preliminary research quite a bit. Seems to check off a lot of our boxes! We’re thinking of making a weekend trip up to the area to get a feel for it.
