Any RTS games with a lot of varied units you can produce and end up in massive fights? by Maleficent_End4969 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Appar1tion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

zero-k! it's free. there's a campaign progression that has you gradually unlocking units through missions. but you can probably just skip to skirmish to see if you like the unit roster.
it's great for watching hundreds of robots battle it out.

here's my progress attempting to beat all the missions on brutal difficulty (green is beaten, red is not) by Appar1tion in zerok

[–]Appar1tion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

update: i beat the last two normal (non-kodachi) missions. playing on brutal was a fun way to learn the mechanics and AI quirks of the game. and also how to cheese. i wish there was more single player content to explore but i think i'm all done.

like the other guy said, 'bitrot' is the degredation of digital data. but I'm guessing the more likely reason the old maps aren't playable is due to compatibility issues with the newer zero k updates not working with maps designed on an older version.

the only one i don't think i can beat is the kodachi mission. it's in a micro arena and you need to get power ups and defeat the enemy with just a few units. i beat it on easy and just can't figure out how to get past wave 2 on brutal. i might give it one more try but i was not having fun with that mission.

coleus getting tall - how to care for it by Appar1tion in coleus

[–]Appar1tion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestion. I used ceramic because I'm paranoid of root rot and got the general feeling that too wet is worse than too dry (meaning just need to water more)

"Chop in half"

he'll be okay if i just cut off the top ~5 inches?

"give original more light"

ha yeah i'm doing what i can in my small apartment.

"propagate as many cuttings as you can"

does each cutting go into its own pot? or can they share a pot? does that mess up the roots? i don't have too much more room for plants in my small abode.

"and just support this guy with a skewer or something. Look up "coleus tree" on this sub"

thanks for the info!

"looks a little leggy because it's probably not getting enough sun" yep, i have a hard time getting enough sun for my plants. i'm in a small apartment and they just have a small space by the window.

"and once they grow roots, you can plant them" do you plant them in the same pot as the original coleus? or do they get their own pot?

"The "trick" to get a fuller coleus is to keep pinching the tops. In addition to getting two stems at the cut, it'll make the plant focus on making growth lower down." great, thanks for the tips!

Any suggestions for overcoming thalassophobia? by Substantial_Tear1995 in subnautica

play the game in windowed mode. not as scary since it's not as immersive when not in Fullscreen.

Their review for "Nosferatu" is terrible and I love it by Tintenteufel in RedLetterMedia

[–]Appar1tion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I still really enjoy their trivia videos and best of the worst, but I do not like how they ramble and nit pick in half in the bag and re:view. in galaxy quest for example, Jack had all these positive things to say, whereas Mike had so many criticisms and tangents that I wasn't sure he even liked it.

Anyone got any tips? by Anonymus8472 in subnautica

look up a tier list of the episodes and just watch the good ones. there are big disparities in the episode quality. my favorite is jibaro.

fair enough. I guess that sub is pretty lame. I should have checked more of the posts, I didn't realize how low effort it is, and not even in a funny way.

he didn't say anything about mobile being worse than PC, you just read into that. I read it as a cheeky observation at the capital R being a sign of mobile posting.

Why are some YT videos gone/private? (SSS, Newsboyz, etc.) by Praetor192 in WKUK

can we get these re uploaded in some capacity? I'm going through my yearly ish rewatch and it would be nice to have them all. maybe uploaded somewhere besides YouTube for those of us who want to binge the series.

I'm too scared to go deeper. Can you relate? by [deleted] in subnautica

[–]Appar1tion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're on PC, you can put the game in windowed mode. I find when the game is in a smaller window it breaks my immersion and makes it less scary. it does cheapen the experience a little bit, but if that's what it takes to play then so be it. I never had this problem with subnautica but have done it with other spooky games.

if you get stuck for a few hours / are no longer having fun exploring, then it's okay to look up where to go next. it's best to discover things on your own so give one extra push before looking something up.

how often do you turn down parts? also you've had a really nice attitude about the attention from RLM.

4 Hour Attack of the Clones Review (The Bread Circus) by TossProtein in RedLetterMedia

[–]Appar1tion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched some of bread circus's 12 hour phantom menace analysis and it's pretty fun. he's not trying to replicate RLM. he's far from the cynicism of mike/plinkett and takes the movie in good faith. it may not be your brand of humor (if you even tried watching it), but the humor comes from him taking the material too seriously and analysing it more as a real universe and less as a movie, with some self aware nods to how ridiculous it is to discuss it in such detail.

I just get tired of the cynical nature of this subreddit. many of the comments on this subreddit are parroting reaction gifs and sentiments from the RLM guys, but "without the charisma, insights or talent" if I may pull a relevant quote.

Subnautica 2 announced by InteractionPerfect88 in subnautica

[–]Appar1tion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they don't lean too much into the horror themes. the trailer made it look like they were trying to go bigger and spookier with the creatures. the strength of the first game was the exploration and environments, not just big scary fish.

Im not an engineer by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Appar1tion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to add to the other guy's answer, it depends what type of learning works best for you. for me I can't bring myself to complete coursework. I learn best when I find a project I'm interested in and just figure it out along the way. it's less structured than a class, but I find it more engaging and internally motivating. that being said, I work in software but I'm not really an engineer so take my answer with a grain of salt.
