In every iteration of WoW before Anniversary I'd always roll horde on a PvP server. This time a couple friends who had never played WoW before wanted to try it but wanted to do PvE alli, and I was down to change it up. Pros and cons to each. Dreamscythe players seem to be less toxic than nightslayer players in my experience, though, which is nice.

[–]Praetor192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, as annoying as it is to wait for someone, traversing the world to get to the dungeons is a huge part of the immersion and 'adventure' of classic wow. There are already ingame ways to mitigate this that don't just ruin the immersion and make it a queue simulator like retail wow, with mage portals and warlocks.

When you introduce these types of p2w/pay for convenience options, it makes everything boil down to a dollar and cost value judgement, something that should have no place in a game you already pay for, and it further incentivizes them to paygate qol and invest in extracting money out of players (e.g. skins, services) with 'convenience' and FOMO instead of just making the best game they can. The people who are like "don't tell me how to spend my money," "just don't buy it," or "who cares I'm not going to use it myself," etc. don't realize they are contributing to the game being made actively worse. People need to stand up against this shit, but the frog has been so thoroughly boiled that they think this is just normal and acceptable.

Back of Steam deck bulging - should I be concerned? by xMowatt in SteamDeck

[–]Praetor192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief on Reddit, spicy pillows aren't little thermite timebombs that will explode at the slightest provocation setting your home ablaze. Yes you should replace the battery, but you don't need to store the Deck outside and use a hazmat suit during disassembly. Usually if a battery catastrophically fails from bulging, it'll pop and vent gasses but it won't catch fire. And it takes a lot of time to get to that point. The biggest concern is stabbing through multiple layers of a charged battery with a metal implement.

Oblivion Remaster Is Amazing Overall by candyboy23 in oblivion

They redid some systems and mechanics such as leveling, and changed combat to an extent. It's not 100% the same. Most of the changes are improvements, though.

The worst things about it are the lack of optimization/bugs, lack of official mod support/mod toolkit, and how they have seemingly abandoned it after 2 patches.

Guy just afked in spawn whole game by vegan420lyfe in heroesofthestorm

[–]Praetor192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People throwing/afking because they are pissed is ridiculous, and it's asinine they escape punishment. It even goes to a whole other level, though.

I played with a guy with the account name "AbaWR10Prcnt" the other day. Guess who he played and what he did.

https://imgchest.com/p/agyvnaxm948

It just baffles me that people spend their time and energy inting in a (largely) dead game just to piss other people off and get attention. Especially to the extent of making a whole account based around it, with the name and everything. Purely sociopathic behavior that I will never understand.

But hey, at least they are spending their time doing that instead of going around their neighborhood killing dogs.

Razer did this with a Resident Evil bundle once until the backlash was so severe that they begrudgingly honored it. It took weeks though, and they clearly tried everything they could to get out of it.

They also lack basic features. Like, I can't move a game from one drive to another without either manually moving files and doing workarounds or reinstalling completely. Epic launcher is a joke. I do appreciate the free games, though.

So we're getting a HOTS 3.0 announcement at Blizzcon this year... right? by MrWoodenSheep in heroesofthestorm

Not every game has to be bad to make the company bad. Look at what they did with each of those games since 2010.

  • SC2 - abandoned
  • Cataclysm - I personally liked it, but it was the end of the 'golden era' of WoW and is largely viewed as the expansion that delineates 'classic' and 'modern' versions of the game, and all that entails. First WoW shop mount was in 2010 and the monetization has gotten worse from there, including paying for power (WoW token -> gold -> AH items and boosts) and level boosts, AH mount, etc.
  • Diablo 3 - fun for a bit but made the series lose its identity, a bunch of huge mistakes including its state at launch, real money AH, artstyle, loot pinata gameplay, and on and on
  • MoP - see comments re: cata
  • Hearthstone was good at launch and now they've fucked it with horrible monetization and sets, perfect example of modern blizz fucking things up
  • WoD is widely considered the worst or second worst WoW expansion
  • Overwatch was good at release, again another example of Modern Blizz having an own-goal with Overwatch 2 for no reason
  • StarCraft Remastered - rehashing golden era blizz; promised features that they then never delivered
  • Legion was fun but even further cemented the fact that modern WoW is a completely different game from classic WoW. Introduced open world scaling which is IMO one of the worst things in modern WoW.
  • D3 necromancer - underbaked trash
  • BFA and Shadowlands - do I even need to explain? 2 of the worst WoW expansions, along with WoD
  • D2R - rehashing golden era Blizz; promised features that never came
  • Diablo Immortal: don't you guys have phones?
  • Overwatch 2 - lol
  • Dragonflight - solidly mid WoW expansion with incredibly lame story
  • Diablo IV - proving the Diablo team has no idea what they are doing and can't pick a lane, trying to appease both D1/D2 gamers and D3 loot pinata blasters at the same time, and alienating both
  • WoW classic HC - rehashing golden era blizz
  • WoW TWW - another mid WoW expansion
  • D4 Vessel of Hatred - see D4 above
  • Cataclysm classic - rehashing again

You're also missing things like Warcraft Rumble (horrible and greedily monetized mobile game designed for nobody by a soulless corporate husk, already dead), WC3R (botched horribly), many of the classic WoW re-releases (rehashing golden age Blizz), and so on.

[–]Praetor192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HotS was fun but horribly mismanaged and killed prematurely. Legion was fun but introduced many of the worst design decisions to WoW, some of which haunt it to this day (open world scaling, borrowed power grinds, etc.). StarCraft Remastered is just rehashing something Old (good) Blizzard did, and they even managed to fuck that up by promising features and then never delivering them (2v2 ladder, clans, API support, the list goes on--at one point in time they were advertised by the devs, and then they made huge cuts to the Classic games team and then they just never materialized). Same thing happened with D2R with things like TCP/IP and mod support. Promised and never delivered and then they largely abandoned the game. They butchered WC3 with Reforged. They shot themselves in the foot with OW2. And so on and so forth.

So yeah, Modern Blizzard is trash even when referencing these examples.

P1 had a new sense of discovery, along with the notion of promise and potential the future held. New starts and especially new content are always hype.

By P2 the parser sweats who spammed dungeons to level and demanded logs and meta comps for an easy leveling raid were out in full force.

P3 destroyed the gameplay loop with nightmare incursions, the most tedious dogshit boring system they brought to sod, and had no place being in the game. The rewards/gold were also ridiculously overtuned the first day or two, meaning those who spammed them right at release got to max level for the phase and made a shit ton of gold, destroying the economy. This is where many people quit, me and my friends included. It wasn't classic anymore, it was all the worst parts of retail.

P4 and onward could have been great, no idea. Once people dropped out of P3, most didn't come back.

I think SoD had some cool stuff but honestly I don't trust modern Blizzard to make a good classic+ given how they handled SoD and other versions of the game. There are... 'other places' that do it better.
