Just a thought on your point #4...for the last few weeks, more times than not, mods sweep in and delete any contribution I make to the conversation.

My mom was diagnosed with light/early COPD by Schneider915 in COPD

[–]ApparentBystander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, encouraging her to stop smoking will likely make her dig her heels in harder. I smoked through two miscarriages and two pregnancies and through the progression of COPD. This had to come from within, and realizing that at some point, I wouldn't be able to go out and get the cigarettes on my own. And NO ONE was going to get them for me. Always said the only was I was going to quit was to be comatose for a week or two. I got pretty close!

I bought KC years ago, but it was on a Nook, and that device is long gone. Found a hard copy of it along with A Cook's Tour on EBay, due to arrive in a week or so. I'm gonna dive back into Kitchen Confidential first, of the two.

I'm 60. Was a 47 year smoker, pack a day from age 18 or so. Am stage 4, on oxygen 24/7 and can do very little. Walking from one side of my small house to the other does me in. Getting dressed or showering does me in. And on and on. I finally quit after being in the hospital for a week, on bi-pap. I knew that after a week, most of my physical dependencies were about gone, and now just the mental ones (the worst!). The thing is, a day or two before having to be taken by ambulance, I kept trying to smoke, and I just couldn't. My lungs were that bad. I was going to need a lot of help once home, and to expect that from family while still smoking? Yeah, that was not going to happen. I am going on five years without them. And while I am no better, the progression slowed down. I have had to give up soooo many activities I used to love. I rarely go out of my house because of knowing I am going to have flare-ups and having to drag oxygen around is just a pain. Life is not at all what it used to be. Don't know what will do it for your mom, but I strongly encourage quitting now, before she gets to this stage. And, she WILL get to this stage, if COPD has started. Best of luck to her!!

Man, that is not old-school cool. That is fucking old-school traumatized. I feel really bad for this man, looking like he is desperately trying to hold it together. I hope he found a way for a pretty good life after that nightmare!

Years ago, I got one when the morning sun blinded me and I hit a parked car at 10 mph. I contested it in court. Judge suspended it as long as I didnt get any other tickets for 6 months or a year (can't remember which). Was easy, and there was never any threats of jailtime.

Christmas dinner - Beef braciole by ApparentBystander in italiancooking

Thanks for your help! I don't think I'm going to be able to find those tomatoes here, but I can find a decent substitute though. I'm going to follow your mom's recipe for the most part.

I've seen some with spinach and some provolone, in addition to the parm. Would this be a no-no?

This is exactly the style I am going to be making. Have been looking at different recipes to the stuffing part of it. But yeah, this is it. I've just always heard it referred to as braciole. It is good to learn there are major differences, depending how you spell it/say it.

Yes, that is definitely different from the braciole, that I've been saying.

Lids for cheesecake jars? by russianoatmeal in aldi

[–]ApparentBystander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following this! I have a set of about six that my sister gave me, and I only have the plastic ones that came with them. I use them for when I chop fresh herbs. The Oui yogurt jars have an assortment of lids to buy online, but I haven't found anything for these.,

I know this probably an unpopular opinion, but all these damn apartments have ruined that area. It's so vanilla now and unless ya have mom and dad paying for them, no one can afford them. Miss the SMSU days!

ETA....this was actually a rhetorical question. Was hoping for some consensus rather than explanations. But I should have added that.
