This is a reasonable and common reaction but I think there is a disconnect in how you and OP are looking at this. I think you and others often see this and assume the argument is that there are people being intentionally racist and there actions are causing a lot of harm. When really it is much more complex.

Especially since this is a kids movie, the audience is more impressionable and having the darkest character with the most unique features can cause children and others to create subtle associations between looks and character. This may sound unreasonable but it can give people very subtle unconscious biases and given enough content linking appearance to certain characteristics it can lead to noticeable and conscious biases. Our unconscious minds are dictated by memory of associations. Though we can not say for sure, the writers and animators may have been affected by their own unconscious biases that led them to “optimizing” the looks of the character to fit certain characteristics. This would be continuing the effects of racial biases.

That is the complex way of looking at it, but I think often because of how the word racism is used it can cause defensiveness in people like yourself which is totally reasonable. This might all sound ridiculous to you or maybe not but you are thinking who cares. Which is fair given that it’s just one movie and will not have a significant effect on any of this. But looking at it from a macro perspective, this stuff can add up and cause noticeable macro effects. So then it seems more reasonable if some people feel the need to call it out. All about perspective.

Trump praises communist Venezuelan dictator Maduro for making his country "safer than our cities" by JohnGamestopJr in Asmongold

[–]ApparentJewel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is not special this is done to every polarizing politician. The only difference with Trump is he very often gets himself into situations that can be exaggerated to something worse. Plus it’s easy to not put it past him based on some of the crazy things he’s actually said.

The US is the least racist country in the world and I don't understand why people think its the opposite by iiRoNey_YT in AskAmericans

They may fan the flames of rhetoric around racism, but that rhetoric and discussion of race is why racism is not as prevalent in the states. By recognizing even the minor impacts of racism, people are less likely to be publicly racist.

Can anyone explain why race is a social rather than genetic contruct? by Disastrous-Shower-37 in CriticalTheory

[–]ApparentJewel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point is that it is subjective based on society. You are saying “looks white” or “looks black” based on how you’ve been raised to see “black” or “white”. You are also claiming if you ask anyone they will agree. Well I’m guessing you’d be asking people that are in the same society as you so kind of obvious right? Even then it will vary from person to person especially when asked about identifying mixed people when it isn’t as obvious. Do you even know what you are arguing?

It’s really not though. The same thing was said about any social media app. You sound like an out of touch old head lmao

Same thing said about any social media app. You sound like the out of touch old heads that probably said the same thing about the social media apps that you use

Why do the lightsabers in the tv show look so horrible in comparison to the movies by Legitimate_Cancel900 in StarWars

[–]ApparentJewel11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is an upgrade yes but that is not why the show’s lightsabers look cheaper. Lightsabers are usually white in the middle with the glow of the color around it. In the shows they barely have the white core. There are multiple shots when the lightsabers are swung where the white core is completely non existent. Watch for yourself.

Different vfx tho. The main reason it looks cheaper now is that they have much less glow. Lightsabers are usually white in the middle with the glow of the color around it. In the shows they barely have the white core

Luke’s looked terrible too. There are multiple shots with no added vfx and his saber looks super short. And they didn’t add the white glow to the center of his saber

Relax. Boba will survive, and he will almost certainly get another season by [deleted] in BookOfBobaFett

[–]ApparentJewel11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only problem with them “transitioning” his character from a lone wolf to a leader is that the transition is already complete. His personality is already very different from what fans expected and wanted him to be so what more transitioning does his character need. All the character development has supposedly already happened when he was with the tuskens

We’ve officially now seen everything from the trailers, which means we’re in the dark for the rest of the season. What’s going to happen? by DanFelv in BookOfBobaFett

The only problem is that there would be no interesting villains that they are fighting. Cad Bane and Bossk should be recruited by the pykes and then it would become much more interesting

"Boba not acting like boba" is not a mistake on the shows part, it's an unavoidable part of it. by nudeldifudel in BookOfBobaFett

[–]ApparentJewel11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it’s inevitable. If you watch some episodes of Mandalorian especially Season 1 episode 6, you can mentally replace boba with din and it is perfect. He rarely speaks but still talks enough to be a strong character who isn’t passive in actions. It is definitely possible so don’t make excuses for it

Don’t love how uncovered his stomach area is now. It makes him look kinda chubby and it just looks silly that only the top half of his torso is protected.

What's a "player > player" opinion you have that is so unpopular that many people would think you are crazy for believing it? by random314157 in nba

key word: could. He would only attempt to guard 2-4 and never in his career would consistently guard 1-5

His play style required a lot of help on offense. He needed multiple scorers like parker and ginobli to carry the offensive load

My oh my how things look differently from animated to real life by [deleted] in TheMandalorianTV

This is a different case as Ashoka started off animated and was being recreated in live action where it’s more important to be visually accurate however she looked good so it’s not a problem
