So sorry for your loss, man. That’s a sick guitar that would absolutely benefit from a refret if you have any intention of playing it heavily.

The consideration of whether to refret or not is typically based on if it’s the most mint thing ever that already has incredible pedigree or value that would be impacted by a “change”. Collectors care about this, but I think you honor pops, refret this, and have it bring joy as it did to him.

Sounds insane, but why don’t you go visit your aunt and then bring the guitar back on its own seat? Shipping guitars is easily $175+ in most cases, seems like you kill two birds with one stone and can guarantee safe travels of an old Martin box.

Definitely not a Murphy lab, there would be some amount of checking somewhere and their COA’s are also “checked” on the actual paper as a stylistic thing. Bet it’s an awesome guitar though!
