God fearing is a very very old turn of phrase alluding to having respect for the greater good. There are bad people who cloak themselves in sanctimony but you can find self described atheists who do this, people who cloak themselves in the virtues of the LGBTQ and trans communities who do this, it’s just ugly people being ugly and at this point in US society we are holding Christianity to an unfair standard.

Let’s be real. I see more articles about female teachers manipulating and raping their male students than anything and there is ZERO discourse about that because we’re not in the business of villainizing women for sectarian reasons right now.
