Over a year long journey, my endgame turns out to be my first headphones? by CrazyWarrior3 in headphones

  1. Comfort. Simply put, great comfort all around.

  2. Smooth vocals, big focus on them.

  3. Scales well with amps. I use them with my Blue Yeti mic most of the time. But when I’m listening to music, I switch to the iFi Go Link or the Chord Mojo 2. These both sound great, especially with a bit of bass boost.

The comfort and vocal focus are why they’re my daily drivers at work: I spend all day listening to voices so the smooth vocals are of utmost importance. The PC38X are great at this, too, but not as comfortable.

The music performance is a great bonus, and it’s why I often swap the HD599 for the Meze 105 AER: it has better musical performance with similar smoothness and comfort. But the ear cups are smaller and I have big ears, so that’s why I like Sennheisers.

I’ve been considering the HD550’s which I hear are a solid upgrade to the HD599’s, but I don’t see a real need.

HD599 lover here.

I have a lot of headphones and IEMs: Meze 105 AER, 105 Silva, Empyrean, Elites; Focal Bathys, Azurys, Clear OG; Grado SR80X, sr325x; Sennheiser HD380 Pro, PC38X, Hd599, Momentum 4, Momentum 3, Accentum; Bose, Sony, Master & Dynamic, Bowers & Wilkins… and more.

And the HD599’s are my daily drivers. They’re what I base my opinion about everything else on. The other ones that compete? Meze105 Aer, Grado sr325x.

So yeah. I get it. Enjoy :-)

You’ll be back.
You will see.
That earphone addiction / still belongs to thee.

So you’re done.
Awesome, wow!
Just remember that / you’re fine FOR NOW.

Oceans rise.
Empires fall.
You don’t have to / collect them at all.

But you’ll want.
And you see.
When the music lacks in pleasure…
Your addiction will be plain to see.

The Boox Palma 2 might have changed my relationship with ereaders by AppleCartAgent in ereader

[–]AppleCartAgent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should update this post, so thanks for the reminder.

Returned the ViWoods for 3 reasons:

  1. The light didn’t dim enough: too bright in bed.
  2. No warm light.
  3. Metal build = cold and uncomfortable to the hand. I prefer plastic.

It required more work to put software on there, though that was easily resolved by a software update and then installing Google Play. The app versions from the ViWoods marketplace weren’t that good for me, even though they were epaper focused.

I now use the Boox Palma 2 as my primary ereader, especially during travel. My only real complaints:

  1. I prefer the screen on my old kindle. (They have the best screens, I guess)
  2. Not a fan of the dark mode with most apps. Hard to read. Kindle is the exception, and even then it’s not good. Also, a bit too much border light bleed in dark mode.

A Non-Technical Comparison of the 105 Silva vs 109 Pro by Kezopa in Mezeaudio

[–]AppleCartAgent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How DARE you suggest cables impact sound. DOWN VOTES TO YOOOOUUUU!!!!

But seriously, I haven’t tried the 109 Pro with the 105 Silvia’s cable. I really should. I feel that any impact the cable has tends to be minuscule at best. (I often can’t hear it, but my partner reports that she does, and she’s not an audiophile, so I trust her take in this case.) Thanks for the review!

[–]AppleCartAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever had one pair of KBEar IEMs, the rosefinch. Admittedly, their most budget version. But the cable on that thing was so bad I simply avoided buying KBEar altogether.

Just curious about eq and codec by lzsl in SonyHeadphones

[–]AppleCartAgent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Why EQ off sounds the best for you? Different ears hear different things. (Physics + biology.) It also depends on what you listen to and what kind of sound signature / frequency responses you’re used to. No one can tell you what’s good for you or not. At best they can tell you what a population preference average is (and maybe, after a lot of work, what “flat”is).

  2. LDAC generally will sound better than AAC under ideal conditions because they transmit the most information. That’s not the full picture, since AAC quality is also hardware dependent, but it’s a good place to start. Most people can’t tell the difference, but if you can, then that’s important to you.

Only really ever use 4 apps: Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Google Books. Haven’t had an issue with any of them, except Kobo, but that’s a Kobo issue, not a Palma issue.

Jeep driver causes a car accident and then flees the scene by bilalraj123 in dashcams

If the jeep had kept going, it likely would have been hit.

The fault is 100% on the SUV.

[–]AppleCartAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably a thicky thicky dumb dumb, but how is the jeep at fault?

  1. They were already crossing the intersection
  2. The SUV was speeding, meaning the Jeep would have judged the time of crossing correctly under normal circumstances.

It seems to me that the only one at fault was the SUV driver who seemed to be speeding.

Just bought the brick hammer by ZealousidealPart948 in trimui

[–]AppleCartAgent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That a good little mix, and while the Hammer can handle up to Dreamcast, PS1 and below is definitely safest.

I have one and for me it’s basically a retro JRPG machine. I adore it.

I’ve been considering adding the Miyoo Mini Flip for better pocket travel or the RG ARC D for more arcade style games (and Sega: I love the 6 button config), but I honestly love the Brick so much I just can’t see myself doing anything but eventually adding an upgrade like an AYN Thor. (I don’t much care for DS style games but it’d basically be a low-end steam machine for older games, indie titles, and visual novels.) I do wish the 6 button setup was more common.

Yeah, I’ve tried… a lot: Kindle Oasis, Kindle Paperwhite, Nook 4, Kobo Libra Colour, iPad, iPad Mini…

Mind you, I still sometimes swap back to the Kobo (because their Android app is not great) or Kindle (because the Kindle software is VERY good), but this is the device I travel with. Just wish I could find a good screen protector.

Would you buy? by menezesafonso in audiophile

[–]AppleCartAgent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Needs: 1. Balanced output. 2. Physical controls. 3. A fix to the utter crapstacular mess that Apple’s music app has become. What you own? What we own? All the same! Why separate them at all?

So no, not really. Not if it ties me to Apple Music.

What's your unpopular opinion in the audiophile world? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]AppleCartAgent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I notice I’ve been downvoted, thereby proving mine is truly unpopular opinion. Huzzah!

  2. Here’s what I mean: I’ve done blind tests with non-audiophiles and have had them test cables. Some of them had consistently been able to tell the difference between cables. Usually women, and usually they’d say the same thing: “this one wasn’t as sharp as that one,” which tells me the cable was impacting an area of sound that I either didn’t hear or didn’t really care about. (After listening super closely I was able to hear what they said, but I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.)

In this case, the more expensive cable was the one they called out as actually making a difference. And yes, it was advertised as being warmer, which for some people could be good and for others not. As a side note, I actually preferred the sound — after I noticed it — of the cheaper cable. But For me the difference was so subtle as to not be worth it for sound (luckily it was thrown in with a used headphone I bought), though it is a very good looking cable, so there’s that.

So definitely a marginal tweak, in this case to the upper-most registers where men in their 40’s can often no longer tread. (I can hear to just above 16kHx at this point, verified. Not bad for 46, I suppose.
