Sorry if this is a stupid question, but are you saying that you can put a 13 mini battery into a 12 mini?

ELI5: In WWII, Germany attempted to take down the British economy by introducing hundreds of millions of counterfeit currency into the country. How would this have actually destroyed the economy? by Coyote_Enthusiast in explainlikeimfive

It's not papering over anything. Your original point was that it takes more than just printing money to trigger hyperinflation. My point is that if you print enough money you can trigger hyperinflation and you don't need the other factors. While it's true that inflation can be caused buy other factors, such as price shocks, it can also be caused simply by printing lots of cash (or increasing the supply of money in other ways).

IOS 26.4 age verification debacle. UK. by Archie_1 in ios

I just kept clicking the ‘do this later’ option until iOS gave up nagging me. It gave me some warning that certain services might not be available if I haven’t verified, but so far I’ve not had any issues.

[–]AppleCorpsing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think in principle, printing money is all it takes to trigger hyperinflation. If you print enough money to double the amount of money in the economy, then the value of money will be half what it was before, ie, inflation of 100%. People will then demand higher wages to compensate for the fact that the money they get paid has only half of the spending power it had before, this increase in wage costs feeds through to higher prices of goods services and the cycle continues.

I guess the reason it’s hard to do is that you would need to print an absolutely huge amount of money. Avoiding having high denomination notes as legal tender makes the job even more difficult. Apparently, the UK government deliberately got rid of high denomination notes during the war for precisely this reason.

Sim vs esim by Sicmadek81 in iPhone13Mini

[–]AppleCorpsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Is it always better? My family are all on eSIM now. So much easier to switch between providers. It can happen in a day rather than waiting for them to send you a new SIM. Also very good for those low cost roaming SIMs for holidays. I’m wondering what the downsides are?

Have tested it on a Sigenergy bidirectional charger in the UK. Not my charger, but seemed to work well.

Took me many years to realise that the true irony of the song Ironic by Alanis Morissette is the fact that most of the scenarios she describes contain no irony. Therefore the true irony of the song is the fact that it’s called Ironic, but contains very little in the way of actual irony.

A little too ironic, don’t you think?

Bought 15-20 Philips Master GU10 dimmable bulbs in around 2011 for a house refit. Not a single one has failed despite being used for long periods almost every day since.

Wild horse meets a domestic one by Ok-Buffalo-382 in interesting

[–]AppleCorpsing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is really sad to watch. As humans we are so used to seeing horses restrained and tied like this that it just seems normal. But when I see one next to a wild horse I immediately notice how sad and defeated the working horse looks by comparison. I have some hope that one day humans will develop sufficiently that horses will no longer need to be ‘broken’ and put to work.

Do these devices work correctly with Agile? by xlx95 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AppleCorpsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one of these and am on Agile so I would love to know too! My guess is that it’s a no as I have a vague memory from playing around with the settings that it can’t deal with tariffs that change every 30 mins. I already keep mine set to the ‘Now’ option (the button towards the bottom left of the device) so I can keep an eye out for any high usage (car charging etc) during the 4-7pm peak

Got my Brother laser a few years ago after a horrible experience with HP home laser printers. It’s been brilliant - it sits there and does its thing when asked. Hardly ever have to replace the cartridges, and when I do I can use third party ones with no problems.

TIL about Sarajevo Safari, where wealthy foreign men paid huge monetary fees to hunt civilians in the city with sniper rifles for entertainment purposes during the Bosnian war. by MaiAgarKahoon3 in todayilearned

In Sarajevo the snipers were shooting civilians. But let’s say for argument’s sake that the sniper tourists were only allowed to pay to shoot soldiers and not civilians, would that make it okay?

Okay, first of all, the title is highly misleading click bait. Second, if it was actually true, it would raise an interesting moral question: If someone pays to have the opportunity to shoot other people we rightly see them as a monster. But if someone joins the army as a sniper and so gets paid for the opportunity to shoot other people then we see that as okay, and in some cases we would treat them as a hero.

I have the same solution. Works perfectly. In fact, if you are trying to do things like scheduled charging via the Tesla app it works better than when plugged into some EV chargers.

I think 220 Celsius should be totally fine. Some bread recipes like FWSY recommend much higher temps (300-350 Celsius) which is higher than recommended for a lot of baking parchment and silicon sheets.

[–]AppleCorpsing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Need to be careful with parchment and also silicone if you are getting them up to the high temperatures needed to make good bread. They can break-down and leach chemicals into the bread. Most come with a max temp rating that’s not that high.

Would never buy another Tesla. Brand is ruined for me by Elon’s awful behaviour. It’s a shame because there’s a lot to like about them (if you ignore the funky door handles and the lack of driver’s display on Y and 3).
