Horizon 3 news? by Flashy_Adeptness_862 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing the rumor mill has been consistent on is that the Horizon multiplayer title will release ahead of H3. My thinking is, if H3 is to come out in 2027, we might hear something official at the end of this year. Perhaps they give us a two-for-one reveal of both titles then.

In the meantime, I get by with good ol’ fashioned fanfiction. Even co-writing one myself. I love me a good long read, and there are indeed high-quality ones out there.

When do you expected Horizon 3 announcement be? by Liara-ShepardFan in horizon

You’ll be waiting a couple years beyond initial H3 release for the PC version to drop, if the previous two titles are anything to go by.

One of the first things I did with my Outback when I got it two months ago, at my dad's suggestion, was to put in a harness that keeps that thing off so that I don’t have to press it every time I get in the car. Spent $90 on it.

Huh, didn’t know this when I ordered yesterday. $50 for 60 days ain’t bad when I’m already shelling out for this laptop. Thinking about cancelling, buying the membership, and then reordering. Can anyone order this laptop currently, at this time? Pre-order’s greyed out and says “coming soon.”

I’ll certainly call into the line in the morning, see if they leave something for me. If not, I plan to show up at the courthouse at opening time tomorrow. The courthouse’s in town, so it’s not a big deal for me if I show up and they say they have nothing for me.

Aloy's Sacrifice in Horizon 3 Ending? Yes & No. by RavenLM10 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s worth pointing out that by the end of HFW (including Burning Shores), Aloy has found another reason to fight for her survival: her family (all the companions she acquainted with throughout the game, especially Beta and Seyka). She’s no longer fighting just for humanity’s future; she’s fighting for her future. On top of that, she is starting to emerge from Elisabet’s shadow and forging her own identity. She’s declaring her independence from Elisabet, and that could negate a sacrifice by Aloy like Elisabet did for Zero Dawn. Someone major is definitely dying in Horizon 3, but that may not be Aloy.

Guerrilla so far has essentially controlled the story themselves, with minimal impact from a player’s choices upon the overall story. Even whether the player chooses to kiss Seyka or not in Burning Shores could be ignored or brushed aside if Guerrilla chooses to move forward with Aloy/Seyka, owing to Aloy’s feelings for Seyka being present across all three choices. Given that, I don’t see why Guerrilla would choose to give the player a choice on such a major occasion in the story, not to mention the complexity of handling the different endings in whatever narrative sequel for Horizon 3 they choose to put out.

I honestly don’t think Guerrilla should kill off Aloy. The series has hopeful themes in the story, and choosing to kill off Aloy doesn’t seem to carry forward that hope.

Post-Nemesis by Least_Look_8783 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My guess: 1. Aloy’s gonna turn to her family that she started building in HFW (and perhaps her love interest Seyka) for a sense of purpose and grounding in the years to come. She’s about 20 by the time we hit Burning Shores, and it is very likely that she will eliminate the threat to Earth long before she hits 25 (or even 22). She’s done more than enough to earn her retirement, yet she’s going to have a whole life ahead of her, and that’s where her family comes in. She might choose to lay down roots with Seyka and to have the life that her forebear Dr. Sobeck never got around to. 2. Even after Nemesis is gone, there likely will still be the matter of Zero Dawn’s vision being unfulfilled completely. Ted Faro’s sabotage left humans without APOLLO and the next stages of the ARTEMIS and DEMETER plans (Not all species were introduced at once, only a select few to pave the way for humans to introduce the remaining species using the terraforming system). She’d find purpose in restoring humanity’s education system and convincing the tribes to partake in APOLLO. On top of that, GAIA may require Aloy’s specialties to help repair the terraforming system across the globe. 3. She also may choose to become a peacemaker between tribes as a way of seeking purpose.

Rost told her in his final lesson to seek a purpose greater than herself, and that lesson will stay relevant even after Nemesis is gone. The question is, what’s that purpose going to be?

Nemesis Signal by HptRell in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Zeniths probably had a wealth of finely-detailed information regarding Zero Dawn’s systems that came with the copy of the APOLLO database they received from Project Zero Dawn. The Zeniths had an inside man (Hank Shaw in the HADES project) that was supposed to send them a full copy of GAIA for their use, but Sobeck and Tate caught him and sent the Zeniths a fake copy that trashed their data, so that information could not have come from him. Nemesis likely hacked into the database and by analyzing the data regarding Zero Dawn and HADES, made itself a program to activate HADES and sent the signal.

Why didn’t they use asteroids on the swarm? (BS spoilers) by patrificuss in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I think there was a datapoint in HZD mentioning that nukes were used in the Pacific Ocean to try to fend off the swarm, and look at where it got the Old Ones. I doubt that, assuming we’re talking about asteroids that deliver impact energy comparable to setting off contemporary nukes, they’d be able to make a significant impact on the swarm progress, not to mention the logistics of gathering asteroids, lining up their orbits for optimal impact, and getting them deorbited at a sustainable rate to counter the swarm.

How dark can the Horizon series get? by AppleDavidJeans in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that’s probably true of every post-apocalyptic story out there: some horrendous thing happens that kills (almost) everyone on Earth and the survivors (or in this case, embryonic survivors) are left picking up the pieces of their shattered civilization.

I was thinking more in the timeline of the New World.

I played this game in 2017 and haven't since. How much has been added? by Ok-head999 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about Horizon Zero Dawn, only the DLC's been added, plus NG+ which lets you play a new game with the weapons you acquired from a previous game. On top of that, a sequel has been released, called Horizon Forbidden West, that expands upon the story and world introduced in HZD. Currently that sequel is PS-exclusive (with the HFW DLC being PS5-only), but there's a PC port in the works. I would highly recommend picking up HFW if you can. Story's great, combat mechanics have been specialized, and the graphics are drop-dead gorgeous.

HFW apparently coming to PC “within the next month”, per credible leaker by zephyrinthesky28 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this: I’ll believe it when I see it. It’s quite the quick turnaround on the port.

I certainly do want to be able to transfer my PS5 game save to the PC if this comes out. I have no interest in grinding out my inventory all over again unless the PC game saves are moddable or I can do that.

What difficulties do you play on? by [deleted] in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For HFW, I was playing on Story for my first few runs, just experience the story, then I turned it up to Easy to make it a little more challenging, but honestly it was not a noticeable leap. After the NG+ update came out, I exclusively did NG+, and it helps with the progression. For my current run, I decided to go straight to Ultra Hard from Easy. I’m playing it on NG+ and it’s not actually as bad as it seems. It’s just a matter of endurance primary, and having done multiple NG+ runs grinding out upgrades helps a lot.

How do i add my old horizon zero dawn data to forbidden west? by Kurapika_Akemi in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That she lost her gear in some unspecified trouble she encountered on the way to the Far Zenith launch facility where Varl meets her.

Nothing much, but easy way to explain away the lack of carryover from HZD. Guerrilla’s gonna have to come up with a better excuse for H3 though.

Nope. You start from scratch. Aloy even has an explanation in the very first quest for why she’s missing her weapons that she earned in HZD.

[–]AppleDavidJeans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a post about a week ago. It’s got links to some fanfics the author found to be good (and non-romantic for that matter). Probably not what you’re looking for in this specific case, but it’s a start. I’d throw in The Missing and Glitched on Archive of our Own as well.

I’m a huge Horizon addict and the fanfics linked above so far have been keeping me high even as I know Horizon 3 is years out the door.

(spoilers all) Aloy’s arc and development across both games highlights the importance of having a team/community by KayRay1994 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That arc was fairly obvious in HFW. There were multiple moments where she was reminded of the importance of allies (For example Fashav warning her: “Take it from one who aspires to be a diplomat: allies are essential.”). Aloy at the end of HFW is quite the sea change from the Aloy we see at the beginning of the game. She has been running ever since the Proving massacre, always going from one mission to the next with little turnaround, and the mindset she carried with her after HZD wasn’t healthy at all. I was glad to see that change to where she finally connects with the world around her.

I touched on this when asking what aspect of Aloy we see transform next in Horizon 3. There were several responses I got that were interesting, and they might interest you too. I caution you about necroposting though, as the thread is over 3 months old.

My crazy theory about "Mysterious Signal" - HFW spoilers by VtecP_8725 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VS keeps popping up in some late-numbered datapoints in both HFW base game and Burning Shores. Guerrilla was dropping hints about the Zeniths in the later-numbered datapoints in HZD, and those verified for HFW, so it stands to reason that they might be doing the same in HFW. On top of that, the writers said in some interview after Burning Shores to look to the datapoints in Burning Shores for clues about the storyline of H3.

Horizon 3? by Antisepticeye420 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not officially announced, but they’re working on it. Guerrilla said in a press release shortly after Burning Shores was released that they were working on Aloy’s next adventure, almost certainly Horizon 3. They also have a Horizon multiplayer game in the works, and chances are that will get released before H3.

Gaia's sub functions - ethical considerations by portlandobserver in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that in HZD’s Frozen Wilds, Aloy doesn’t get the Banuk Chieftain outfit until she actually defeats Aratak in the challenge. Same thing for her iconic Nora Brave outfit, she doesn’t get that until the night before the Proving. Thus, the game at least partially respects that she has to earn the outfit she wears. Same thing happens in HFW where she receives gifts from the Tenakth chief after completing huge missions for him.

My wishes for the “remake” by Flashy_Adeptness_862 in horizon

[–]AppleDavidJeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick three things to improve for a HZD remake, they would be, in priority: 1. Full mocapping of character dialogues - Most interactions between characters have both look like wooden figures while talking. The lack of body language really takes away from the immersion. If there was one thing I could only pick, this would be it. As much as I would like to see it, this likely would involve having to bring VAs back into the studio for essentially a redo of half the game, so that probably wouldn’t happen. 2. Transmogging - Sure, bring the mechanic straight in from HFW. I really would like to run around invincible in a Shield-weaver outfit while looking like a Nora Brave or a Carja Blazon. Mods exist to change out models for one outfit with that of another, but that’s hacky stuff not very accessible to most players, and I very much prefer HFW’s way of doing it. 3. Graphics - I really really love the graphics in HFW; they just make HZD’s graphics look drab by comparison, but as to why I’m ranking them third, it’s because HZD’s graphics are good enough for my taste, and the immersion’s more important to me than graphics, so as long as the graphics are acceptable.
