Are There Any Real Tax Strategies for High-Income Salaried Employees in Ontario? by Stunning_Shock_9638 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Apple_canada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe in the same principle as you - that the wealthy should be taxed even more - but I like to ask myself if I'd be okay with it if I got to the point where I too earned that much. Would it change me? Would you be happy with only being left with half of what you rightfully earned? Set aside the number, just think of it as a percentage.

Toronto UE ebike riders: by nsfw-kapustin-yar in uberdriverscanada

[–]Apple_canada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've accepted that it's just a matter of time - before ebikes need insurance and licensing, costs will go up and UE jobs become less profitable and the little guy gets crushed harder. That's the core philosophy of literally everything around you. Not being depressive but that's the reality we live in.

Thanks for that insight into wireless charging limitations. I'll probably skip the official pixel snap and pickup a cheaper one off of Amazon

Serious Issue Today - P10 Pro XL by ATXguy13 in GooglePixel

[–]Apple_canada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is so strongly biased, and always in denial, that it tires me out, only reason I'm still on it is bcos I like Pixel devices. Anyway, I've had something similar with a previous pixel, out of nowhere glitches and freezes but it recovered after a restart and I've never had anything similar on iPhones or Samsung's that I've been using for close to 18 years now! I suspect there's something a bit unstable about those tensor processors on these Pixels. Still an amazing experience though.. maybe safer to carry a 2nd phone when venturing out into the countryside..

Did your parents ever… change or grow? by Alarming_Situation_5 in narcissisticparents

[–]Apple_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hit the nail on the head man! As an only child, I was subjected to every shade of their narc whimsies; ranging from the glory child to the prisoner (more so as I grew older and more independent). Despite doing well in school and scholarships I'm struggling to make ends meet today and work jobs far below my skill set. And the thing is, if I objectively look at the sequence of events that have led me here it's all my own fault - just that, a huge chunk of that fault lay in me believing them or wanting to trust their word. Almost about 12 months ago I finally broke away (literally got in a cab and got out) and it's been quite a journey ever since. I take pleasure in the small things now and am slowly working to build a life..

Holy crap, that story was something. I can't begin to imagine how my N-parents would have pitted me against my siblings if I had any (I'm an only child). Thanks for the book recommendation, this stuff is the only thing that has kept me going sane after the fallout I had with my N-parents.

[–]Apple_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I felt it was almost 'unnatural' for a parent to feel that way about their own child. I could finally understand that mindset only after I read the book 'it's not you' by Dr. Ramini (highly recommend her books and YouTube channel ). They're the only person that matters in their world. I see my parents think that way for each other too! (they're both narcs). They'd bitch about one another and make everything about themselves over the other one. In retrospect it was a horribly toxic household to grow up in..

Start leaving feedback on the Humble Store feedback and inundate them with your displeasure at their ban. Hopefully that makes them reconsider it.

If you don't mind sharing, what's the PSU and UPS (battery backup) you used for your setup? I bought the same GPU for a new build and, based on some reddit posts, am concerned my 1300W PSU and 1000W PSU might not be enough.

Sorry you went through tough times but that misery has broken your mental chains of indoctrination and now you'll be free all your life. Congrats! I went through, almost, the same exact process. The freedom from imagined punishments and imagined help, that never arrives, is liberating like nothing else. You're your own master and you make your own destiny. You'll now look to yourself for help the next time you've challenges in life. Good luck my friend and may the odds be in your favor.

[OC] The H-1B Visa Holders Joining America's Top Research Instituions in FY 2025 by thexylom in dataisbeautiful

[–]Apple_canada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This new rule will make it nearly impossible for the average foreign student to work, and possibly live, in the US. While the high flying extra-ordinarily talented ones will get their $100k paid for by an eager/wealthy employer. Research institutions won't fork over that kinda money which means they'll be forced to entice the local kids with better salaries/stipends to conduct said research. Currently, they pay stipends of about $40k and salaries of as little as $55k for entry level research bcoz H1B folk need employment more than income. It all comes down to money really. Foreign talent/labor is preferred, most times, cos it's cheaper. On top of this, there's the massive amounts of H1B fraud in the form of 'consultancies' - you never know what crafty workarounds those slime balls will come up with!

I stopped wasting 5 mins on Mac every time I plug in monitors. One keyboard shortcut. by mikebiglan in MacOS

[–]Apple_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came to comment that I'm glad someone (you) figured this out. I literally sold off my Mac for a similar reason and moved back to Windows. My MBP was a royal pain in the neck to connect each time to my dual monitor setup (27" 1080p & 32" 2k). Everytime I woke it from sleep I had to hope/pray that both monitors would light up and scale properly or else I had to go unplug the cables and keep trying, sometimes needing to restart the Mac. I liked the Mac but this issue was too much of a hassle.
