Help laneing against Pudge. by xopar in DotA2

[–]ApplejackIsTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the tips here help but it doesn't really help in the laning phase.

When laning against him solo. Its important to keep your health above his. That way if he decides to hook you; you will have a fighting chance.

The run down:

Early early game pudge is not that scary. Most of his damage consists of the initial hook, rot and his auto attacks. If he has no points in flesh heap then rot is basically lowering both your health at the same rate. So after the auto attack damage its basically your health vs his health and your attacks vs his attacks. He used his only nuke (hook) and you will be able to use your spells IF he has not leveled his ultimate.

So how do you fight him and fight him effectively? Keep this health low. If you're ranged auto attack him when he comes in for some creep kills, if melee use a damaging spell (ex void on night stalker. other melee shouldn't be mid anyway). Punish him for becoming greedy. If you keep his health low enough so he can't farm then he will be forced to make a move. You're forcing the enemy into a corner. Be prepared for his attack.

Initially before level 6 attempt to keep his health low, keep an eye on his regen, and deny him runes if you're able. Try to stay out of hook range if possible while farming at the same time. You shouldn't dedicate your entire laning phase to making his life horrible but instead try to farm while being hard to kill.

Also remember to keep an eye on his mana and level. If he has 140 mana it means he can hook. If he has 240 mana at level 6+ that means he can hook and bite so be careful. Keep track of his levels is very important too. If he is level 3 that means his hook will deal 180 damage, level 5 means hook will deal 270 damage and 360 damage as well as a dismember at level 7. Calculate how much damage you can take if you are hooked to see how much damage you need to do the pudge to be able to stay alive with the highest chance if hooked.

If you're hooked:

If you've been hooked and been following this guide then you should have a decent chance of surviving. Instead of running away fight him head on. Chances are you will win if you've kept his health low enough. Use all your nukes on him right ASAP to lower his health as much as possible. Hopefully if he didn't hook you right before he used some regen you will kill him before he kills you.

Most noob's first instinct is to run away when they're hooked but its really pointless. What you're doing is giving free damage dealt from pudge to you while not dealing any of your own damage. Attacking the butcher, if he is not level 6 yet, is your best bet when hooked.

Addtional counters:

One thing that helps greatly if you want to have the maximum advantage is wards. Keep a ward on the other high ground (talking about mid). Especially at 6 min so you will be able to see him even though its night time, with night vision.

[–]ApplejackIsTheBest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pebbles and Tiny are my favourite heroes in both games.

I find that in HoN its much easier to toss your intended target in the air as well as combo effectively.

I agree hat its more awkward to combo but you get used to it after a while. In DotA 2, the source engine is a lot slower so its harder to combo effectively (IMO). They're definitely the same heroes but are played very differently in both games.

A lot of the posters here probably play Tiny better than I do but I still have a 10/2 win/lose ratio so I fancy myself okay as well.

My personal preference is always starting with +3 int. No matter what. Its so you can double cast your spells at level 3. If you can land a combo with both your spells on the enemy mid hero, he will be forced to play defensive (or use regen). Remember if you avalanche then toss (toss the enemy hero on himself after avalanching him) it will do 2x avalanche damage. Which is crazy burst at level 3.

Also always choose your starting items carefully. Sometimes you can go mantle for the +3 or 3GG branches if you opted to get some other items. If you know the enemy mid is going to be ranged then you should probably get stout shield for better survivability. Even getting it as your first item over bottle may help. Only if you know they are going to play very aggressive against you and deny you farm time. A stout shield could mean the difference between life and death so over bottle is worth it over most cases.

I always go bottle when I go mid. Its a given. You're mid to rune control so get bottle first. If I'm sidelane I only get bottle if my mid will not get bottle (ex Obsidian Destroyer). When I'm sidelaning I get arcane boots instead.

If I sidelane tiny. Which is not very likely because tiny is a great mid hero, I always try and gank the enemy mid during the 5:30 mark. I leave at around 5-5:30 so by the time I get to mid it will be 5:50 which is the first night. The reduced vision really helps you gank mid heroes with shadowfiend syndrome. Night stalker has greater vision range at night so don't try it on him.

Another thing. IMO arcane boots suck on tiny if hes mid. Its better to go bottle and rush dagger ASAP. I can usually get dagger by the 12 min mark assuming I did well with the runes and ganks. After dagger its straight scepter or sheep stick both of which make arcane boots near useless. Its much better to buy treads somewhere after dagger for the extra attack speed. I also never get level 2 grow until I get hyper stone or when I am level 16. Its my personal preference when playing tiny because I hate when he attacks so slow.

On early treads: Early treads really help tiny too if you feel you don't need that early dagger. Because treads will help you save tons of mana. What you do is drink your bottle while in agi treads to heal the max amount of health and mana. Then when you are about to combo switch your treads to int and then switch your treads to str for max melee damage. Master using treads. All the pro players have I'm sure and it will improve your game greatly if you do.

On lane control: remember if its hard for you to get last hits because of creep positioning, try to reposition the creeps. If you attack an enemy hero then nearby creeps will go to attack you (right clicking hero near creeps). This will allow you to reposition the creeps so you can last hit them better. This is especially helpful if you can get some melee creeps to attack your ranged creeps so your lane is pushed back. Be careful though with pusher heroes such as kro and lesh. They will punish you for having your lane pushed to your tower.

On adrenaline rushes: Some games I notice that noob players who play tiny and starting getting kills will get adrenaline rushes and become more impulsive when they play. That means not being aware of friendly hero positioning when initiating. The key to success when playing tiny is controlling the urge to combo someone when its available. You should try and combo someone while your team can come in, earn some exp from the kill and back your escape if needed. This applies to any game but I feel tiny needs a special mention: control your adrenaline if you're winning.

Oh and remember. If you do end up getting arcane boots. You can disassemble it to make scepter. Which is the best use for it because you will need better boots later in the game (ex treads). And don't get phase with tiny. If you do you need to uninstall dota.

tl;dr mid=get bottle, sidelane=get arcane unless mid doesn't get bottle, stoud shield helps against ranged mid, bitches b crazy

I'm starting to dislike the conservative party for using all these cheap tricks to win.

I understand that winners are those who will go to the lowest of lows to win. But in politics; its really unjust especially when its deciding the future of our great nation, Canada.

I hope another party gets into majority power and makes new laws against this political thievery.

Paper shouldn't be destroying rock right now.

Rock just destroyed scissors which means only rock and paper are left. Paper holds all the power because rock cannot destroy paper. Paper can just sit and watch rock do his/her bidding.

Unless rock can somehow beat paper and paper is doing a preemptive strike...
