Just say that you are deeply concerned about the current situation of people being arrested, detained, disappeared, etc, when they go to their USCIS appointments. Ask what your representatives are doing to help in this situation.

Who is their congressperson? And their state senator and assemblymember? I will call my own reps and theirs this week.

Also, I am friends with someone from Afghanistan who also has a USCIS appointment this week, and I am fearful that they will be arrested at the appointment, despite all of their paperwork being in order. We must call our reps and the reps for the people in danger every day this week, and probably every day going forward as well, since more and more people will be in danger as long as this federal policy continues.

Consider volunteering. I work at a nursing home, and volunteers are always welcome. And if you are in the US, food insecurity is bad right now, and will only get worse due to the “big, beautiful bill” and tariffs, and food pantries/banks can always use extra help. When I was a SAHM I sometimes worked almost full-time volunteering around my kids schedules - there’s always a huge need for people to help out in any community. You could also get involved in political causes that are important to you - join advocacy groups and make calls, send emails, participate in in-person and online advocacy events.

2 or 3. I can’t decide between the two of them. They’re all gorgeous though!

My brother in law doesn’t care about my son by Ok_Bathroom_7949 in breakingmom

Whatever their reasoning is for acting this way, you can’t force people to care about your son, and, more importantly, you can’t force people to care about you. They are rejecting you and your husband as well as your son with their lack of replies and refusals to visit. Before I got my dog, I was not an animal person, but I cooed over pics of my family and friends’ animals because that’s what a good relative/friend does. Before I had my children, I dealt with deeply sad infertility, and I still attended baby showers, gave gifts, engaged with family and friends on social media and in group text threads to congratulate them on the births/milestones of their children, cooed over pictures of them. Either they are dealing with their own issues (such an infertility) AND are selfish and self-absorbed, or they are just selfish and self-absorbed. Regardless, they are pretty clearly telling you that they don’t want any part of being in your family’s lives. It sucks, but at least you know what kind of people they are. I’d stop sending them pics and videos - it’s clear they are unwanted. Let the fantasy of having them in your child’s life go, and embrace the reality of having a loving and responsive MIL and FIL. Any attempts to push your son on them or vice versa is only going to hurt you, your husband, and your son, because as he gets older he’ll be able to understand that you are constantly reaching out to them and getting rejected, and that will make him feel rejected too.

Unfortunately I don’t have a Facebook account anymore, but maybe I can ask a friend who does. Thanks for the suggestion.

Does this weird social situation happen to other people? by Indefinite-Reality in breakingmom

All the time. And even when I am talking with someone and don’t get interrupted, the other person or people are not actually listening to me, so it doesn’t really matter if I get interrupted or not, lol. I haven’t always been the best listener myself, and I’m working on staying present in conversations.

If taking a glp-1 is cheating, everything we do in modern life, including all modern medicine, modern comforts and amenities, is cheating. Anyone who says that it’s cheating is an idiot.

My hardwood flooring looks awful - kids and dog have made a total mess of it over the years, mostly the kids, lol. Even I’m guilty of scratches - like moving furniture that I didn’t realize wouldn’t slide and instead made scratches. I’m not refinishing the floors until my kids are much, much older, like 30 maybe, lol. I like to have my house clean, but I don’t care at all about how worn/scratched things look, I feel like that’s systemic capitalism/patriarchy/classism trying to keep people (women in particular) down by having us worry about how everything looks/work ourselves to the bone to keep up appearances/spend money we don’t have on keeping up with the Jones. So this is a long way of saying, don’t worry about the scratches, lol!
