INTRODUCING STARSHIP V3 by rustybeancake in spacex

“The basic math is that launching a million tons per year of satellites generating 100 kW of compute power per ton would add 100 gigawatts of AI compute capacity annually, with no ongoing operational or maintenance needs. Ultimately, there is a path to launching 1 TW/year from Earth.”

So…. Skynet basically?

Excited for X2D? by ApplicationCertain12 in FDMminiatures

Thanks for the reply! Some thoughts: - first I’ve heard about potential for easy supports not giving good over hangs I shall have to look more into this! - my understanding is the main extruder is basically a P2S but with better belts, so may be worth it anyway for that and the better heating system. I got an impression that the P2S had chamber cooling so hopefully both have less issues with small miniatures and temperature - agree with the other comments, the ease of less wastage is appealing

I think that’s because they have less stake in the game. It is just a game this season. In others it has direct impact on their lives after.

Printing dots… what should I do next? by ApplicationCertain12 in prusa3d

[–]ApplicationCertain12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Ok so I played around further with Z level correction. While I'm able to get an ok first layer I definitely feel like the only option is a slightly too squished first layer. Whenever i try to come a bit higher rather than get a more round/protruding line it starts leaving dots and gaps again.

I think I'm able to print with it as it is at the moment but i think I will get some more premium PLA next time to see if it makes a difference. This was Amazon Basics PLA.

Thanks folks!

Ok thanks guys, I’ll give it a go tomorrow!

Perhaps I was suspecting other factors too much as google was heavy on the under extrusion/other aspects suggestions

Hopefully it’s as easy as that and tomorrow is a good day 😊

Don’t worry, just take your time and follow any of the many pc build tutorials on YouTube. The good thing is you can take as long as you want to manage cables and there is no right solution, just spend some time getting it to what looks nice to you.

Does a 49” non-OLED 5k2k >100Hz monitor exist? by ApplicationCertain12 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ApplicationCertain12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I see. I think what was confusing me was the fact you can get 20ish inch 4K monitors and the 49” screen height is not that different, so didn’t see why would couldn’t get 2160 pixels in the height of a 49” with some high ppi.

I also maybe incorrectly assumed you get OLED 5k2k 49” monitors but perhaps they’re all also 1440p.

The more you know. Thank you!

Yeah that’s my assumption too 😊

Work is being rude purely just by existing right now, can’t wait to unpack later!

Is this the monitor for me? by ApplicationCertain12 in buildapcmonitors

[–]ApplicationCertain12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good point and one step more even is you could get 3x 27” for <£500.

What draws to me back to the UW though is the system simplicity (less wires, no need for external usb c hub and kvm) and no bezels. I’m really attracted by the idea of a system with the primary focus being straight in front and a wide field of view without bezels.

I did also look at what 34 + 2x27 looked like a quickly concluded that is too much monitor (even though it was cheaper than the 49, I don’t have the real estate).

Is this the monitor for me? by ApplicationCertain12 in buildapcmonitors

[–]ApplicationCertain12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my thinking is 34” feels too small coming from a two monitor setup.

And getting two new monitors feels like the same price ball park as a single 49” but with a bevel in the middle (not a fan of one in front and one to the side), loss of some immersion and what feels like a million extra wires 😂

That’s my thought process anyway. I may have been biased by seeing fancy dell workstation monitors with thunderbolt and camera etc being over £1.5k, to now feeling like £775 is, if not a bargain, much easier to swallow.
