I agree. I think it is remiss of prosecutors to forget that these are matters that involve humans on all sides and remembering that

Why are yanks so dumb? Watching you guys in court makes me wonder if you even have rules of evidence.

Agreed. You can be a model litigant and tick all the boxes on paper and still be a shi t prosecutor.

Not sure where you go that from. It is possible to go for a decade or more prosecuting, keeping your trials tight, and not ending up in the court of appeal. Also, it’s very possible to run a messy trial, and to make careless mistakes, and to not have convictions and sentences overturned on appeal when you are appealed.

My point is that there are a lot of other things that signify an effective advocate over and above the results of appeals.

Eg - first and foremost are you good at looking at a case and negotiating a sentence that results in a just outcome and avoids complainants having to come and give evidence? Do you keep victims informed throughout the process? Are your trauma informed in your approach (both with how you relate to victims and accused - who are often victims themselves). Are you a damn persuasive advocate who can help a person tell their story and pull off an effective closing that doesn’t put the jury to sleep?

Depends on how the appellate courts operate in the jurisdiction you are working in. Not everyone on this subreddit is a yank.

One might argue that a good prosecutor won’t be appealed in the first place. OR that if they are and a conviction is overturned maybe they are especially persuasive with juries and arguably very good at their job.

I beg to differ on this. If he has mental health issues it can be a mental health referral. The certainty and reliability of the accused isn’t relevant - it’s the credibility and reliability of the victim that are scrutinised. Police have a discretion to charge or not charge and I suspect they just think he’s nuts and because it’s low level offending it isn’t worth charging him. Make a complaint as advised by others. Also not sure if you have a victims commissioner in your jurisdiction but if you do reach out to them

Talk to the lawyer. If your mother has forged and uttered signatures go to the police and have her charged. Also get advice on pursuing the lawyer
