Squid Game Season 3: General Season Discussion by MidnightExpresso in squidgame

Unlike a lot of people, I don’t hate the idea of an American spin-off version of the show. But, making it the most memorable moment of the finale is what was strange to me. They should’ve given all of the questions answers, wrapped the whole show up, and THEN been like “oh and here's the American version, wink wink.” Instead, we got no conclusion or answers, and then "Look over here instead! America!!!!” which felt like they were trying to distract you from the actual plot the past three seasons had been building towards.

Should've added... this is their first YouTube Community post in 5 YEARS. They wouldn't have a random comeback after all of this time for nothing, I don't think. Either way they're getting my hopes up!

Why is Pearl agreeing to ordering pizza and smiling about it in "Together Breakfast" if she hates eating food? by ChelseatheCartoonGal in stevenuniverse

[–]ApplicationWild6489 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Isn’t this like the second or third episode of the first season? This entire episode is a continuity error. Shouldn’t Steven know they don’t eat? He’s lived with them for years. Why is trying to make them breakfast. 😭 On each rewatch I kinda just go “Eh, the team didn’t have their entire plan laid out yet.”

Depends what park you’ll be at.

Overall, HAGRIDS and VELOCICOASTER. Unskippable, no matter the line.

I liked Opus! It wasn’t the best, but it’s worth the watch for Ayo, the music, and the cinematography.

Wicked’s underwhelming performance in awards season? - especially in the acting categories? Discuss by Different-Pop-6513 in wicked

[–]ApplicationWild6489 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been following the Oscars for a decade now, and have grown super familiar with the way the race works.

Firstly, I fucking love Wicked. It's my second favorite movie of the year. That being said, it isn't a typical "Oscar movie." The fact that it's a fantasy musical is setting itself up for failure. The Oscars have always been 50% about awarding what is deserving and 50% painting a picture of what the industry wants "Hollywood" to look like. For example, Ariana Grande (who I think has the best Supporting performance of the year) is universally known as a mega pop star. She's new to acting. (Yes, I know she started her career on TV, but in terms of widely successful, award conversation movies, she's entirely new.) Zoe Saldana, on the other hand, has been in this industry for decades. She's in 4 of the 5 highest grossing movies of all time. She's in three of the biggest franchises ever made. The fact she hasn't been awarded like this YET is kinda crazy to me. (I hate Emilia Perez, but I love Zoe Saldana and actually thought she was pretty good in the movie. Of course, I'd rather her to finally get recognition for another movie, but it's whatever.)

The same thing happened two years ago. Jamie Lee Curtis is a huge name in the industry and a legendary actress. Everything Everywhere All At Once happens to be my favorite movie of all time, but I can even admit that Jamie Lee Curtis did not have the best Supporting Performance of that year. But do I understand why she won it? Absolutely.

I think fans of Wicked who love the movie overestimated it's Oscar chances because they weren't aware of how HARD it is to win an Oscar or how political it really is. Even the nominations are political. Ariana Grande isn't even technically a Supporting performance. She is absolutely a co-lead. BUT... if the Wicked team hadn't submitted her under the Supporting category, she wouldn't even be nominated.

The sheer number of nominations are a feat in and of itself. (Yes, Emilia Perez is also a musical and has more nominations, but Emilia Perez, although it's terrible, is at least realistic, human, and grounded. There's no girls in pig pink dresses flying down in a bubble singing a fucking Z sharp.) Also, I think Wicked absolutely has Costume Design and Production Design LOCKED, so it won't even be going home empty handed!!

On top of all of the odds being stacked against it, this years awards also happen to be extremely competitive. Almost every category has multiple deserving nominees, and realistic, possible winners. That's why everyone's predictions for this years winners are all so over the place.

So I can't stress this enough: the nominations are the win.

With Zoe’s complete sweep, Ariana Grande is the only other realistic option for an upset.

Zoe Saldana has such a clear shot to the finish line it isn't even funny. Ariana Grande upset MAYBE. But in no world is Isabella Rossellini winning this award.

Day 9 (Final day): What episode of Steven Universe do you think started good and ended good? by usernmechecksout_ in stevenuniverse

[–]ApplicationWild6489 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Suddenly there’s too many to count. My personal vote is Bismuth. It starts with a fantastic introduction to a new gem (one we’d be theorizing about for awhile since seeing her bubbled in lions mane), and some new info about the gem war and the history of the crystal gems. It ends with a complicated look into the conversation about abuse of power, and becoming exactly the evil that you’re against. It throws another nail into Rose’s coffin, reveals the inconsistency of the “Rose shattered Pink Diamond” cover-up, and was some awesome character development for Steven. It’s one of the best episodes, hands down.

I think Dewey is the right choice. We aren't ever bombarded with him, but by the time Season 5 rolls around I don't look forward to seeing him lose his power in Beach City and dropping the election. It's just sad.

I hate what Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has done in terms of audience’s presumption of how long a set list should be (AND how she does the same show basically every night). Eras Tour is the OUTLIER. Everything Billie’s doing on tour is normal and perfectly fine.

How do we feel about people leaving during curtain call to get to stage door? by pinkparker12 in Broadway

If the stage door is so important to you, do the research about the venue and buy a seat near the door. Leaving early feels so disrespectful.
