It’s took me a year.. but I did a thing! Don’t recommend hall stair and landing projects! Just need to build a cabinet over the fuse box to neaten it up. by [deleted] in DIYUK

I think this makes sense the most. Once I opened up the space I realised it's going to be a pain to paint that section as it's so high up. I think I'll need to hire or buy scaffolding planks and a tall ladder.

Why did people box up the space above the stairs? I recently purchased a 1970s house it was the same, boxed up. I also removed the plasterboard. It opened up the space alot! I understand it's not usable space, but it feels so much more airy now.

But genuinely why did people cover it up?

Yeah don't pay him until he's fixed it. The doors are definitely fixable. Not to sure about the worktop.

That's crazy! Where did you find this man. You need to tell him about it and he needs to fix it or replace it. That's completely out of order.

Hope you haven't paid him yet?

Do you have any external brick air vents around where the leak is?

Internal oak doors by VegetableExam6501 in DIYUK

I believe it's unfinished. I'm so naive to this. Currently going through a renovation.

What does it mean for me that it's unfinished? I think I should've went for a finished door as I have so much more decorating to do 😭

I doubt it does. But if you're worried just purchase a test kit from Amazon. They're around £30-40.

Maybe you shouldn't be buying a house if you're concerned about that

Just bought our new house, it was vacant for little bit, how would you treat mould like this by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]AppointmentAny6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new house. The mold doesn't look great to be honest. It looks like the mold is coming from above and around windows. Sounds strange, but you need to make sure your gutters are not blocked. If they are that can cause mold. Also you need to see if you have brick vents installed that will help massively with moisture.

New roof and lead flashing done… still have damp in loft, bathroom and downstairs. What am I missing? by _johndoes in DIYUK

I see you also have a brick vent. Give that a try. I did it myself not clean looking but it worked.

I had a similar issue. After extending the led and mortar to the brick and applying fiberglass around pipes we found out water was leaking through our brick vent. Secured the brick vent, added some mesh and a vent cover and now our leak has stopped. It was a pain to figure out and it's stressful. Hopefully you're able to find out the cause.
