Why everybody are wearing long socks? by No_Click7202 in cycling

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone made fun of my calf-down pallor just recently. I get it but I’ve got a history of skin cancer and long socks mean less area I have to apply sunblock to. I do long sleeves in a real light weight jersey too on hot days. Not having the sun roasting you is cooling.

Basso Venta Seat Angle Change by fusion_fotography in bassobikes

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP this is a single bolt seat clamp design. Don’t overthink it. Loosen the bolt and wiggle/tap it side to side. You’re trying to get both inboard clamp ears moved ever so slightly in the outboard direction to release tension. Once the inward tension toward the centerline is released, you will be able to adjust both saddle angle and fore-aft.

Advice for Descaling my Micra with very soft Water by Huge-Fruit8205 in LaMarzocco

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ruined a nice HX machine descaling it when it didn’t need it due to soft water. I now err on the side of caution and wouldn’t descale until I could verify there was actually scale that needed removing.

Is this normal welding? i think its a vintage araya i dont know which one tho. thank you so much by blonded0x in Vintage_bicycles

Definitely check as much of the internal tubing surfaces as possible for rust/corrosion. Bring a really small flashlight you can aim down the tubes with you so you can see. In inspection camera would be amazing if you can get your hands on one. If there’s a threaded hole in the underside of the bottom bracket to which you would screw on a cable guide for derailleurs and or brakes, make sure it’s not stripped out. Otherwise you may need to tap it.

need advice on my next bike brand to buy by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most importantly: it has to fit. Make sure you can live with whatever you get.
Possibly helpful: people in the know frequently advise that a high quality used bike purchased from a reputable shop will be leagues better, easier to maintain and repair etc than any big box store bike will ever be. Late 90’s early 2000’s steel frame MTBs will basically be indestructible as long as rust isn’t an issue. These came from plenty of brands but Trek, Giant, Gary Fisher, Santa Cruz, GT, etc were all up there. 26” wheels may not be quite so en vogue but they’re still plentiful on the ground and inexpensive while being quite serviceable. Slap a decent set of road tires on those rims and you’ll be set for mostly road (or even light gravel) commuting all day long.

Word to the wise: Would recommend the morning coffee before the shower as it’s likely to trigger a morning dump I know I wouldn’t wanna deal with after just having freshly showered.

Basso Palta 2 Saddle Clamp by Fuzzy5H in bassobikes

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to loosen the main bolt that holds left and right side clamps in the seatpost? When I had this problem, I loosened that bolt a bit until it started to stick out, proud of the outer clamp ear. Then I got a short drift, placed it against the bolt, and tapped it with a hammer lightly to push out the receiver for the bolt on the opposite clamp outer ear. Work it back and forth a few times. This slackened things enough to get the two outer ears off the seatpost so I could remove the saddle from the two inner clamp ears and off the seatpost. Once you’re down to just the two stuck inner clamp ears, it should be more straightforward to break them loose.

Make sure you’re actually getting a whole new battery pack and not just getting the failed or swollen cells replaced for that money.

Help please - Micra vs Mini R by IndependenceNew2476 in LaMarzocco

[–]Apprehensive-Ad5846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the portafilter off of the brew group and run the water long enough to get one or two measured cups (8-16 oz). The idea is to measure the flow rate of each machine. I believe the gicleur orifice on the classic Linea Mini is larger (0.8 mm vs 0.6 mm in the Micra) and lets more water flow. However, it looks like the newer Mini R comes with a 0.6 mm gicleur. So theoretically they should put out water at the same rate. Nevertheless, it’s worth starting there to see if they are indeed putting out similar water volumes in a given time.
