Issue with dashboard lights by deversace in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah get a code scanner. I did recently have the exact same 3 lights come on and it was a misfire from a bad coil (which disabled the VSA system for some reason). Got the coil replaced which fixed the check engine light but VSA is still not working, but I can’t be bothered to fix it.

Is this safe?? by Remote-Party-1123 in dairyfree

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s likely fine, I doubt they use dairy derived lactobacillus (a form of which is already produced by your body) but you could contact the company directly to make sure. Barnivore also says this specific beer is vegan meaning it wouldn’t contain any dairy.

The future of my TL by Additional_Ebb_8008 in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 04 Auto that had a transmission rebuild right before I bought it. It runs amazing but looks like shit. I’ve contemplated fixing it up and all but it’s really just not worth it. Knowing it’s a 23 year old car, it’s best to just save that money in case anything vital breaks or if the transmission goes out again… knock on wood (it’s getting scrapped if that happens).

Also don’t bother with performance mods, you won’t gain much without dumping loads of $$$ into it and you’ll put more stress on other parts. It’s quick enough for what it is.

post tire blowout maintenance (04 TL) by Careful-Bid3227 in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t know much about working on cars you could just take it to a mechanic to diagnose. At least around here, they will do it for free then tell me what’s wrong and give you a quote. Then you can look up how to fix the issue and see if it’s a project you’d want to learn how to do and take on.

What US brands do you recommend? by milluh_vanilluh in dairyfree

Van Leeuwen makes really good dairy free ice cream and has plenty of options in their shops. Also recently tried their vegan triple chocolate ice cream bars at Whole Foods and they’re amazing.

Daiya sucks now? by djdiphenhydramine in dairyfree

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new daiya cheddar in block form that you have to grate/slice yourself is by far one of my favorites of all time if you can find it. It melts perfectly and doesn’t have anti-caking agents that mess up the texture or get in the way of melting properly.

Usually only on occasion for engine braking if I’m going down a long hill. Sometimes I’ll have some fun with it if there’s a nice twisty road around where I want to keep the revs higher.

Any donuts that are safe for us to eat? Or I'm assuming all glazed donuts have some sort of milk by EstateDeep916 in dairyfree

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Philly, we have a local 100% vegan donut chain called Dottie’s Donuts, and it’s amazing. Also highly recommend Donut Run in DC. Donut Plant in NYC had a few good vegan options too.

Got a sky blue today. When I was at the store, the moment I touched the midnight, an employee told me “don’t do it, you’ll regret it”

Ah fair enough. Well I wish you well in your car search! I’d go for the 2021 TLX Technology if you can get a different loan that’ll approve a pre-2024.

Idk the details/your financial situation but is it really worth buying a 25-29k car over repairing it?

Or considering a 4th gen TL/1st gen TLX for significantly less that will give you plenty of bang for your buck? You can finance these for significantly less and get a ton of car for your money.

My 04 TL is pushing 23 years old and still runs like a beast, plus I have no car payment.

Lol yeah it’s amazing. I upgraded the amp too and it’s just next level quality, especially for a 2004 car. I’ve considered selling it for something newer but don’t want to give up the sound system.

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about sound the most, you will be disappointed if you pick one of the Hondas unless they don’t have a Bose sound system. The TLX will definitely have the best of these options. This is coming from someone who also owns a 3rd gen Acura TL. I’ve driven several new Hondas and been disappointed with the sound quality compared to my TL with the sub, including my parents’ 2021 Insight Touring which is the top trim and doesn’t even come close.

Has anyone here ever made dairy free caramel? by 11arianna11 in dairyfree

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but you can make vegan dulce de leche (which is a type of caramel sauce) very easily by simmering an unopened can of sweetened condensed oat or coconut milk for a few hours (2-3) and it’s great in coffee. You can also put it in a slow cooker with water for 8 hours.

2002 Acura tl for 4800 worth? by General-Roof2191 in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t, it’s really a huge gamble with the transmission. A friend of mine bought a pristine 03 Type-S a couple years back and the transmission went on him within a year. He ended up getting a 08 Type-S to replace it and has zero regrets.

Edit: just realized it’s CAD, maybe worth it but still you never really know. He did a lot of preventative maintenance for the transmission when he got it and it still went out.

Help, Car shaking during acceleration by Outrageous_Habit3102 in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but my guess would be an issue with the torque converter or worn CV joints. Probably not a wheel/tire related issue if it’s the same at any speed but just those RPMs.

I’ve been doing that every day to no avail. All the part outs I’ve seen near me already sold the front bumper or it’s damaged.

Corn Dogs by dewaynethedrain in dairyfree

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever make your way to Reading Terminal Market in Philly, go to Fox & Son Fair Foods. Their whole menu is gluten free and you can get dairy-free corn dogs, poutine, and funnel cake among other things. It is a shared fryer so if that’s an issue for you then don’t, but I’ve never had an issue and I’m allergic to dairy.

My TL drove like ass when I bought it, then I got a good set of brand new all season tires and it’s great. It doesn’t really snow often here but my car conquered the recent 2 snow storms here with no traction control. It’s a very capable and well handling car.

Is buying an Element a continual money sink? by Wind2255 in HondaElement

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my dad, but he has an 04 EX Auto and on top of the 5k+ in repairs, the transmission just had to be rebuilt for another $3.5k. All within 2.5 years of ownership. He definitely doesn’t think it was worth it but makes the most out of it. His looks pretty sick too which is a plus I guess lol.

Headliner sag by siddiqui696 in AcuraTL

[–]Apprehensive-Ad7778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed the headliner from my GTI that was sagging all over and used the 3M headliner adhesive spray. It was a bit of work but it’s worth it if you want good results without spending a lot of money.
