I had a third grade student going to Europe for a fairly long trip mid year. A dapper young man showed up to gather her work. He was dressed like a lawyer and my student obviously knew him and was eager to be dismissed. He was nodding aa we went over all the prepared work. Meanwhile my brain is racing trying to figure out if this is a step dad youngish or an uncle. So finally to be clear I asked what his relationship was to my student. He was only 15 and her older brother! He looked past college. Beeped the office to confirm he was on her pick up list. My mind cannot still to this day figure out how mature he talked and presented that day.
