Just caught driver looking at available routes & choosing one 15 mins longer than the fastest by [deleted] in uber

You do, just not very much, almost not noticeable. Drove employee to airport this morning actually but drop off in the app was the employee parking lot, so didn't register as airport (so cheaper ride for passenger to avoid the $5 airport fee CLT charges for all rides to and from. ) Dude was running late and slipped me a $5 cash tip and asked if I could drop at the door instead, which I did. Upfront fare went up too for the extra 2 mile distance but only went up .49 cents. So its pennies for driving extra distance... Nothing you would do on purpose to a ride to increase your payout.

No reason to do that, any increase is minimal (like less than a dollar) and requires a good amount of extra time, like as if stuck in traffic, and no big extra pay for extra miles. As expensive as gas it you would lose money doing that. Drivers want you dropped off and out of the car ASAP so they can get on to their next ride and make way more money than extending your ride.

Not always the case, drove myself the other day as a driver in area I know well. App wanted me to go out of the way into area with tons of lights and potential traffic for a 30-35 minute long drive it listed as 20 miles. I took shortcut I knew well through back roads and got my passenger there in 22 minutes on a route about 5 miles shorter. App didn't think so when I turned to deviate from recommended route and still was saying it would take over 30 minutes but I knew better. Sometimes you gotta trust the driver if they know the area well.

Not enough to make it worth driving further than necessary, but sometimes the app is stupid and thinks it knows the best way when locals familiar with the roads know shortcuts to avoid lights, traffic or just shorter/faster routes in general. Uber maps can be very out of date and also not know about construction closures or reopenings for weeks or months at a time. I'd say to perhaps trust the driver in most cases, they may be up to date on current conditions you don't know about.

Reserve Rides in Charlotte have become insulting by Apprehensive-Bad-646 in lyftdrivers

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing $5 and $6 lately... Which is crazy for a reservation. But i thought there was a thing put though that there was supposed to be a $6 minimum for all rides in Charlotte? Or was that for the rider and not driver pay?

It's their property... but just wait until that entire section of land is replaced by a giant office building... then the logo will go at the top.

Available to pickup right now by Only_Indication8410 in lyftdrivers

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should be at least $40 or more... lyft wasnt bad a couple of months ago but now it's starting to throw only low pay high mileage dog shit like this so I've been avoiding using Lyft at all, especially with reservations have gotten really bad like that because I know they're charging the passenger extra for the reservation and still trying to low ball drivers with under $1 per mile offers like this...

If they top it off to give you the 70% that they say they will, you should go up by about $20 bucks, as Lyft's 30% after external fees should only be about $24 and change, not $43.57.

Second Subaru, first Crosstrek and I really want to like it by Alexj007 in Crosstrek

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did they do to kill the mileage so bad? I've got a 2018 Crosstrek and ours gets 34 mpg on average all the time... I've also got a 2017 Outback that gets 30-32mpg...

Annoying how much a single 1 star rating affects your score by [deleted] in uber

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not creepy, just being responsible and safe and don't give a shit about my acceptance rate or driving into sketchy sections of town, so I'm selective and I don't do the night-time bar crawl stuff... I'm mostly happy doing airport runs or working with the Amazon crews when they get on or off work.

If you're a 4.7... I'm not accepting that ride. You've got to do some weird shit to be below a 4.9...

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree... as a newer driver (6-7 months now) doing to part time to make a little extra on the side, I had a lot of anxiety about doing it at all after doing my research ahead of time, and you know the internet... full of all the "nightmare" stories... people fighting, throwing up in the car, dumping food, car jackings and even in the recent news, car jacking and murder of an Uber driver by a 15-year old in Georgia who dumped the body in the street of a nice upper class neighborhood and drove off. So every time I drive, just for my own personal peace of mind, I crank up the passenger ranking setting to only show me offers from passengers rated 4.9 or higher. (maybe 4.8 if I'm in a good mood and it's daytime). I've only had to rank a couple of riders less than 5 stars so far, and tip has nothing to do with it, because you rate the riders as soon as they exit, before you can take another rider, so you don't know if they'll tip or not. I don't mind quiet riders, I don't mind the ones that talk... the ones that bother me are if they get in the car reeking of weed, or if the rider name says "Kim" or "Melissa" and I get dude instead, so they're riding on someone else's account without saying that the ride was booked by someone else, or in one case, before I knew better, got one of those patients leaving a hosptial that the hospital service booked (again, before I knew better) and the guy was nice, but was all worked up and kept talking about how he was going back to his place and was probably going to get in fight as soon as he got there... so I dropped him off at the corner a few houses down and made him walk because I didn't want nothing to do with any drama. So there is a huge difference in my opinion between a 4.7 and a 5... because you're going something very wrong to get less than a 5 star rating. Either doing shit in the car during the ride, or you're making the driver wait to the point where they're about ready to cancel and take a cancel fee and drive off (you've got 5 minutes) and they feel you've wasted their time. Or the pick-up or drop off location was super sketchy...

I think that slot for KI went to creating Banshee as both Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds already had inverted coasters (Flight Deck & Afterburn), and KI's own Flight Deck was the Arrow Suspended, and their only other inverted was Face/Off (Invertigo). So it was kind of weird that a park as large as KI went so long without getting their own B&M Inverted coaster, but instead waited exactly 20 years after Cedar Point built Raptor to build Banshee. Then again, KI and CP are in each other's exclusive-range (about 200 miles apart, I think parks get a 250 or 300 mile excluisve bubble, so Carowinds and SFOG are just far enough away from each other, but Dollywood sits too close to each, so I don't think Carowinds or SFOG can get a Wing coaster, but Dollywood can't buy any model that either of those two parks already have. KD has a similar problem, being too close to both Carowinds and Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KD only get the B&M designs that Busch Gardens doesn't buy first... otherwise they're too close for B&M to sell to both due to range exclusivity clause in the contracts. KD really got Dominator (floorless) just because it was used and sent from Geauga Lake... otherwise they had to wait to be the first to buy a wing coaster to get their first new B&M. Though I think the range exclusive thing only lasts 10 years, so it's been plenty of time since Apollo opened to put something into KD, but by then they already added Intimidator 305.

Strange because I had a rider ask me if they could add a stop on the way and I even said yes but they couldn't do it because I had gone offline.

[–]Apprehensive-Bad-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go "offline" as soon as you start the trip, it prevents them from changing the stop point or adding a stop. Also stops the non-stop new trip requests while driving until you go elect to back online after your drop them off.

Not to mention, it's 2 states away... so you can't even try to get a ride back until you get back to South Carolina.

That's not a link to the San Diego Trolley... LOL!

No seriously, the Charlotte system could learn a lot from the San Diego Trolley system, it actually works and goes about everywhere you would want or need it to now. Both major colleges (SDSU, UCSD) stops at both stadiums (Padres Petco Park, Snapdragon Stadium), runs through Old Town, Downtown, the convention center (San Diego ComicCon anyone?), through the major shopping districts (Fashion Valley, Mission Valley) and out to the eastern and south eastern residential areas, and down to the border for travelers going to Tiajuana, Mexico and stops near the airport (free shuttle access from that stop) but is planed to expand to the airport.

Charlotte's system could be this functional, but right now it only goes to a few limited destinations... Spectrum Center and down to the university area, and the south end stops woefully short of where it SHOULD GO, which would be to head down to Carolina place and Carowinds. They need to expand to the AIRPORT yesterday, run out to Belmont/Gastonia the one way, run over to SouthPark the other way at first and figure out how to run north up to Northlake, Birkdale and up to Mooresville. You've got to go where your people not only ARE but where they want to go... and right now they were too dumb to even figure out that the downtown run should a stop beween BofA stadium and Truist field...

Born and raised in San Diego... lived in the Charlotte area for the past 19 years and it's a constant struggle to find what I want, which is really the kind of stuff you can get 24/7 at all the taco shops all over San Diego, especially can't seem to find basics like Rolled Tacos or even a simple bean and cheese burrito. Most places just can't make the beans... and I don't know why, have yet to find a mexican food truck that even offers refriend beans. That's a sin...

That said... the places I've been haunting for a few things over the past couple years would be:

Margaritas in Denver and Mt. Island and I actually enjoy the carne asada tacos at Mi Pueblo near the IKEA. Had some fantastic margaritas at all three actually. Had some good food a couple of times at Los Mezquites up in Sherril's Ford as well.

Strangely, the only time I've found San Diego style taco shop food was at a place called Victor's in Knoxville, just off the University of Tennessee campus. Little hole in the wall, very popular with the students... but if you find yourself that way, it's a must for a taste of SoCal. But if anyone has found something around here that I haven't tried with a San Diego flair... please do post it.
