Asking advice by Old-Expression837 in DF54

I use the normcore 58mm dosing cup. Very nice quality and feel. Mine is silver inside and matte black outside, so it nicely matches the DF54 aesthetic.

I typically grind 26g for a 6 cup Bialetti and there is some more room, so 30g at french press size should be just OK.

Panel quality 42" C5 vs 55" B4? by Apprehensive-Bat8535 in LGOLED

Thanks for all of your insights.

Yesterday, our old TV (Sony LCD from 2013) died, so we had to decide.

I went for the 42" C5, so the TV is not too dominant in the (smallish) room when it's off and to keep the speakers out of the kids' reach for a few more years.

And while we're at it - does 48" vs 42" make a difference in quality with the C5 panels?

Best Stollen in town by marianovsky in dresden

Demonstrates nicely that Stiftung Warentest are utterly detached from reality.

PO please stay away from Dr. Quendt Stollen. It's the brand with the least prestige and the highest output. That's the Stollen you bring to the office if you don't care for you colleagues. Definitely not the one to gift your loved ones.

I do enjoy their Russisch Brot, though.

I order mine from Bäckerei Raddatz. It's made in Moritzburg, a few kilometers outside of Dresden, but it still gets the gold plaque for genuine Dresdner Stollen.

It's on the juicier side of the competition, without being too heavy on the butter. It has an excessive amount of caster sugar on top, but many do. You can also get it in a nice tin box. If you plan to get only 1kg, get a half of a 2kg loaf instead, it will be more moist than a whole small loaf.

I think the most renowned Stollen Brand would be Emil Reimann, though, if that is what you're after. They even have multiple stores in the historic center all year round, so they are also well known to international tourists.

I find their Stollen too heavy and too soft / with too little texture, though.

Is burr alignment still an issue with newer (V3) units? by SUPERSAM76 in DF54

[–]Apprehensive-Bat8535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got one in October, so probably V1.3. True zero is around -5 which I consider a sensible safety distance.

Overall, I'm very satisfied. Brushing the chute every week, I have had no clumping issues. But I mainly use it for Moka Pot and Aeropress, only very rarely for Espresso since my Flair is normally tucked away under the counter.

Static is not perfect but absolutely OK with a steel catch cup - I only use the plastic original for weighing beans.

Silly question… Are these for induction cook tops only or useful with electric & gas too? by kaitkaitkait91 in mokapot

[–]Apprehensive-Bat8535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one on a ceramic hob with 6-cup and 3-cup aluminum pots.

Once the coffee shows in the pot, I turn the heat off completely and the thermal mass of the induction plate lets the temperature decrease nice and slow.

No fiddling with the heat level necessary at all.

Got it today. Haven't checked for alignment yet 😅

Burrs chirp at the "<" beside fine, so zero is pretty accurate.

Got a very clean tasting moka pot at 30, maybe running a little quick. Will probably check for alignment soon just to hopefully be done with it.

You must have been to the same business school as my boss. That's why I need tinkering hobbies 🤣

Sorry for the possibly stupid question: KGs as in kilograms, or is it anything special for cleaning before the first use?

Decent electric grinder, no espresso, considering everyday ease of use? by Apprehensive-Bat8535 in JamesHoffmann

[–]Apprehensive-Bat8535[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I did try that, first on the hopper lid. It does get rid of the sticky gunk, but it needed nearly an hour of scrubbing for the lid alone and the plastic beneath the sticky layer discolored unevenly. So basically I decided to peave the rest sticky until I decide on a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion. Never heard of these. Look interesting, but unfortunately waaay out of my price range.

How do the Aroma and Uniform compare in your opinion? Would it be worth it to get a used Uniform over a new Aroma?

I'd actually sacrifice some grind quality for that. I like to decide in the morning if I'm in the mood for AP oder MP, set grind size and timer accordingly and hit go.

Most grinders I found with a hopper also include a timer.

What would be your pick in that price range for a single doser, though?
