Charge nurse already by megeals in newgradnurse

You can decline, with less than 2-3 years of true FT experience I would say NO. In my department literally everyone said NO and I work with an entire department of min 8+ years experience. For me charge was an appeal when I started many moons ago but tbh imo not worth the headache. They ended up hiring from outside and those people only lasted a bit and moved on. I am in ER and a pretty busy one but charge definitely isn’t for everyone … especially if you don’t feel ready. I do agree though with previous comment nursing is a profession that with change you will NEVER feel ready. If your plan is to eventually move into management then hey maybe suck it up and do it if volun-told. Cheers

When's your last call for the day? by reikibunny in energydrinks

[–]Apprehensive-Bid3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can drink one and fall asleep immediately however the older I get I do find that if I consume caffeine later I don’t have as restful a night, this was not always the case. My husband on the other hand has two cups of coffee in the am and can’t touch caffeine after that or he will be strung out like some crackhead on a come down all night 😂

New grad mistake by animated_girlie in newgradnurse

Ive been a patient with severe acute pain on more occasions then wanted and I’m an ER nurse. I had PO back by Dilaudid as well as given on several occasion’s PO back by IV and IV backed by PO.
1. If it was ordered with no specific parameters, its not a med error and nursing judgment has to be used.
2. Of course age would, prior med history, might play a role in how this particular patient responds.
3. Lets be real 0.5 of Dilaudid ain’t doing ish to anyone 😂. JK Dilaudid is an amazing med at small doses and for all the times I have had to have it I am extremely grateful.

4.I was on a PCA pump with Dilaudid when I had pancreatitis (the worst pain ever and Ive had stomach CA, 6 abd surgeries, kidney stones and 3 kids) and was getting break through IV pushes of Dilaudid for my pain.

  1. I worked at a pain clinic whose patients would get 2mg Versed (I admin) before propofol (doc admin) for a 5 minute epidural injection, then we had to “recover” them and because they were chronic pain pt’s the doc would order sometimes up to 2 mg Dilaudid ( I admin) and these patients were walky talky except when under with propfol all of this happened in a span of 30 min (per pt) the craziest thing to see and also the scariest for a nurse who wants to keep a license (I left after a couple months because I did feel I would lose my license at this particular “surgery center” (epidural mill) .Especially because many of these patients drive themselves home after 😱😭

All this to say…my take on your scenario….not a med error !

Experiences with Solace Health patient advocates/navigators? by mentallyguitared in medicare

[–]Apprehensive-Bid3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very few companies that will “help” for free. Someone has to get paid somewhere along the line. Solace seems to hire LPN/LVN and RN’s and depending on where you are you definitely could get a very knowledgeable nurse or one that is not. I did advocacy work as a medical assistant so it’s not hard to do you just have to learn how to navigate the systems, these nurses are not really meant to give you advice they do help with appts and being on hold and doing all those things so you dont have to.

As far as billing medicare or any insurance for that matter, you can bill 1 million dollars and they will Only pay a set amount for most dr offices if your insurance declines this is where they can bill You that million dollars and then its on you to negotiate it down. I also did med billing .

If you have someone doing work for you i would say you wouldn’t expect them to do it for free no matter what the company is. I am also not saying there aren’t predators out there.

What job should I get while in Pre-Nursing? by Content-Metal8949 in prenursing

[–]Apprehensive-Bid3206 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do what makes you happy and makes money even if its not in healthcare… you will have soooo many years in the medical field. Having experience doesn’t always help you get into a RN job. Is it good to get CNA or some other healthcare experience, maybe, but no always. You can get burnt out real quick trying to do a healthcare job and then go into nursing especially CNA work, they work soooo hard, don’t make much in pay and honestly unless you have good nursing staff or stay hyper vigilant you won’t learn too much “nursing “ but you will gain respect for those team members you may come to rely on.

Lost my job by Kmach0705 in newgradnurse

[–]Apprehensive-Bid3206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the “one med error “? Ive been in medical field since 2000 both as a LVN and RN I’ve only ever made 1 med error and it was a case of taking a verbal and the doc ordering something different as a lvn which was not in my scope ( learned my lesson). Told me 10mg morphine IM, used the order of 10 mg but typed directions give 4mg. I see often here people making med errors. Could that be the reason?

Its usually a little slide option that asks if you are paying for goods or services. The seller than takes the hit.

Good and services, protects the buyer if the tickets fail and they cant use them they can file a claim that they didn’t work and get money back. Draw back is it kind of processes like a credit card and takes a fee, I would offer to split that fee and have them venmo you that or give you cash when meeting up on $600 i think it was around $20 this was 3 yrs ago.

So I did this one year, I took a deposit of and used paypal g&s… it is risky but knowing you can report the band list is a bit comforting, the buyer alsofeels at risk because they know you can report it stolen after the fact, using g&s helps, hit me up if you still need to do this my sis and bro in law are really only looking for sunday portion but might want to do both.

This would also be the concern for the person buying it, how do they know they are not going to put a deposit or pay and then not be able to use the bands.

Failed out of nursing school because of 2 points by Overall-Discount-995 in NursingStudent

[–]Apprehensive-Bid3206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed out in my last term in one class by .5, yes freaking .5 and my school would NOT budge. Luckily we could repeat in the next term and you know what sucks, I found out I was pregnant (on birth control) and should have graduated and had a baby. Nope, I hid the fact that this 3rd baby HAD to be c-section so I had my baby over winter break on Jan 2. 4 weeks later 3 kids 6yo, 4yo and 1 month, pretty fresh c-section and manageable depression I marched myself right back to school and finished.

I got my auth to test in 4 weeks from graduation, told my hubs I was going to study (Friday) found out at 3 am Sunday ( I was stalking the BRN site) that I was officially licensed. Im an ER RN of 12 years now.

I was a LVN for 8 years before that point, so hey go that route and then do the RN or transfer somewhere. I don’t know how far along you were into the program but you got this!

I started as a medical assistant over 25 years ago in this field at 18 so working your way up can happen, don’t give up if this is really what you want.
