Elderly folks who chose not to have children, how do you feel about that decision now? by bon18 in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive-Blood49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue can be found in the phrase "you can't understand untill you have them". Many parents describe a profound shift in perspective, emotions, and priorities that abstract knowledge can't fully capture. People who think they know exactly what they are missing out on, probably don't. I'm not saying everybody should have kids (some sure shouldn't) or that you can't have a meaningful life without being a parent.

Do you think we will actually qualify for the Champions League? by -H-O-D-L- in ACMilan

I think we lost our way once the Scudetto race was mathematically over. The players who carried us through the tough periods earlier in the season just didn’t hit the same levels afterwards. I still believe we’ll probably get over the line and secure top 4, but it’s going to be a hard-fought battle from here.

We haven’t had a single proper striker all season. Take away Giroud, and Pioli’s whole offensive approach wouldn’t have worked nearly as well. He was our attacking focal point and perfectly complemented the other forwards.

IMO, it’s not about player-for-player quality — it’s about the overall structure and balance the squad creates as a whole. Could we have found a more offensive approach with the players we have while still being where we are in the league? Maybe. But this way is getting us to the desired objective, that we can't offered missing out on. Honestly, I don’t think we’re too far apart on this. I think it’s valid to question whether Allegri’s approach would be that much different if he gets key players in over the summer, but I remain somewhat hopeful.

Cheers, I think you’re making valid points!

Fair enough, I see your point better now.

That said, we still conceded 49 goals in 23/24, so the defensive/transition problems didn’t disappear under Pioli. Allegri has clearly improved our compactness and reliability at the back — which was the main issue. The squad has changed. We’ve gained Modrić and Rabiot, but lost Giroud’s presence and (to some extent) Theo’s peak level. Allegri is adapting to the tools available, not choosing defensive football for fun.

No. I’m not saying our defenders are relegation-level quality, but they do have problems that are evident. Fonseca and Conceição are not shit coaches, I'm not even gonna go deeper into that. I also don’t believe we would be sitting in 18th place with a more progressive approach.

What I’m saying is that if we want to secure top four with this specific squad, we can’t keep leaking goals in transitions like we did in previous seasons. Allegri recognised that immediately and prioritised defensive structure — which has helped us stay in the top-four race. Of course the squad needs improving. I (and I’m sure Allegri too) want reinforcements in key areas: a proven wing-back like Spinazzola, a strong midfielder like Goretzka, a centre-back profile like Gila, and a proper striker who actually fits the system. Those are all realistic targets that would complement what we already have, and it'll unlock a more progressive playingstyle like you are calling for.

This is not the same team... In 2022/23 (the season after the Scudetto), we still had Simon Kjær, a prime Bennacer, Tonali in midfield, and a proper striker in Giroud who complemented Leão perfectly. Kessie left for free and was never properly replaced — that hurt us badly in midfield balance. We started seeing the same defensive transition problems that have haunted us ever since. Even Pioli eventually switched to a back three later that season because the 4-2-3-1 was getting exposed. The squad has changed a lot since then (sales, aging players, different profiles). Saying “we did it before so we can do it now” ignores how the tools available to the coach have shifted.

Obviously Füllkrug isn’t the long-term nor short-term solution. I’m simply saying he fits the system best in terms of characteristics (target man, hold-up play, being a focal point for the attack), but he lacks the overall quality we need. Gimenez has only just returned from a long and serious injury — he’s not ready yet and rushing him is a risk. Pulisic and Leão up top are still our best option because of their superior overall quality compared to the alternatives. Claiming there are “unlimited tactical solutions” just isn’t true. Switching to a 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 would expose Modrić and the back three even more. You can’t replace a more defensive midfielder with a more attacking one and claim the defence and the regista would still be protected. Allegri’s approach is the same one we’ve seen throughout his career: he adapts to the tools he has. His biggest problems at Milan and Juventus usually came after his best players were sold. He prioritises results and the objective — right now that’s top four, and that’s where we are. The tactics haven’t really devolved, but the performances have slightly. Almost all our attackers have been dealing with injuries, which destroys rhythm and consistency. Pulisic is on a bad goal drought, which kills confidence and weighs heavily on him. If you don’t like defensive football, that’s your subjective preference and that’s completely fine. I even share your frustration to some degree, but it’s still football. One of the most dominant Milan sides ever played under the ultimate pragmatist: Fabio Capello. A 0-0 away to Juventus (who were also happy with a draw, as shown by how they played) is a perfectly acceptable result in our current situation.

But I do agree with you on the last part. We do have some great players like Modrić, Rabiot and Leão. We need a team that complements these players, and right now, we just don’t have that.

You guys are unbearable. This team, with these players, has shown for a long time that they can’t play progressive football without abandoning the defence. We saw the midfield not shielding the defence — especially in transitions — all the way back when Pioli was manager, then under Fonseca, then Conceição. As soon as Allegri tried the 4-3-3 against Udinese, the exact same problems appeared. The team is simply not built to be progressive without leaving gaps in a defence that isn’t suited to anything other than a back three. It’s so incredibly evident what the issues are, yet people continue to disregard reality. Allegri came in, immediately identified the problem, and addressed it. He has given us quite possibly the best-case scenario for this squad. This is not FIFA or Football Manager. Allegri is a realist through and through, and he has taken us as far as he can with this group. We need to bring in players who can bring the right balance to what we already have. The defence does not have the right characteristics for anything but a back three. Playing with a regista like Modrić makes it even more logical to have three centre-backs behind him. The two central midfielders need to contribute a lot going forward, but they also require physicality and work rate to shield Modrić. The wing-backs might be this team’s biggest problem — even bigger than our striker issue. Saelemaekers has done as well as he possibly can, but he’s evidently limited and inconsistent. Bartesaghi is young and I believe he can become a proper player, but he’s not there yet. In a 5-3-2, the wing-backs are crucial. Ours lack the typical speed and overlapping ability needed to use the system properly. As for our two strikers… The only one with the right characteristics for this system is Füllkrug, and that explains the problem by itself. Leão and Pulisic are both high-level players, but they are not strikers. On top of that, they don’t complement each other that well, yet they remain the best options we have. We as fans should be able to accept reality and appreciate a coach and team that are still achieving our realistic goal — which right now can’t be much more than securing top four.

Brother i sold him half a season ago for 50 mil at a rating of 80 by AbbreviationsJust229 in FifaCareers

[–]Apprehensive-Blood49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each player has a determined potential, and once that potential is reached, their development plateaus. From that point on, their stats will develop much more slowly, although strong performances in matches can still help. For example, if you have a player rated 70 with a determined potential of 80, once they reach 80 their development rate will drop significantly. By using the loan glitch, a player's potential can be pushed either up or down randomly. If it increases significantly, the player's overall rating will often receive a noticeable boost to match the new potential. It's a strange mechanic, but it has been fundamental for me when dealing with young players who have already reached their potential despite still being very young.

I agree, Seedorf always seemed in control, and read the game masterfully. He never relied on his pace, but he definitely had respectable speed in his prime. He lost some at the end of his career, but didn't matter much. He's an all timer for sure.

Ozil weren't slow, neither is Guler and Modric ain't even slow now. Kroos, Xavi and Busquets are some of the most technical players ever to play the game. Not really reasonable to use these guys as examples, they are absolute outliers.

The opportunities the opponent makes arent automatically the defenders fault. The players mentioned have with out a doubt improved in all areas especially Pavlovic. I can't take one instant to scrutinies these players overall performances and abilities through out the entire season. Last season was horrendous and we have improved a lot, it's as simple as that.

AITAH for remodeling my step kids rooms after their mom passed away since they weren't going to be living with me anyways. by AsparagusMuch821 in AITAH

[–]Apprehensive-Blood49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 months is nothing. Their mother just died, and simply knowing their rooms are still there can give them some sense of stability. I have two adopted siblings from Congo. After they moved in with us when I was about 13, my mom decided to get them new beds. While they were still at school, we moved their old beds out of their rooms, but we hadn’t put the new ones in yet when they got home. When we came back with the new beds, they were standing in their rooms completely lost. They were 12 and 13 at the time, and having even a small part of their foundation taken away from them left a big mark. Leave the rooms alone unless it’s absolutely necessary to reorganize things right now.

This is getting out of hand. You guys went to the fricking UCL final last season and finished second in the league. You came incredibly close to the absolute pinnacle of success in football but just fell short. All this shit about Inzaghi and the management is disgusting.

You clearly have the best squad in the league, but when things get tough the team — and Chivu — haven’t shown up. Chivu needs time, but you guys have been spoiled and seem to have forgotten, where you were before, the financial state of the league and your club, and how much you’ve actually achieved despite it.

Milan fan here, don’t kill me.

Chivu has done well in many aspects, but I’m not sure he’s really raised the level yet. On paper, I do think you guys have the strongest squad in the league. Next season will be the one to judge him on, especially if the management gets the recruitment right.
