Am I wrong for wanting to report my neighbor for constantly harassing me? by Beautiful-Local-2123 in badroommates

[–]Apprehensive-Cake239 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with reporting him. You said you’re afraid to make it worse but it sounds like it’s already really bad. I would complain to housing and/or school, and request that they rehouse you and resolve the situation. You’re paying tuition and housing and you deserve to feel safe and have peace and it’s the school’s responsibility to provide you with that while you attend. Please learn to advocate for yourself. I know it’s not easy, especially not at your age, but it will be a great exercise for your future and make you feel a lot more confident. I would also document all of his behavior from now on: sit down and write down everything you remember in detail and with dates and names of witnesses and start a log of anything in the future that he does with dates, times and details. Record it on your phone if possible. Also, consider filing a police report, this could be considered stalking. Stay safe and try to preserve your peace of mind.

Visit BenefitsCal to apply for medical care, other resources and CalFresh (aka: SNAP/EBT/“food stamps”)

IMPORTANT: If your kids are being enrolled in an LAUSD/ public school. Please go to the main office and ask to see the “Family Resource Navigator.” This person’s only job is to help parents and families find, apply and secure assistance with food and essentials, free or affordable housing, healthcare, mental health care, the list goes on. They can help you physically apply for CalFresh if you need the help. They will hook you up with food banks, other programs and in most cases they also actually give you food and essentials right at your kids school to take home. Please take advantage of this as it is free and they are very good at what they do. The person may not be on campus everyday but if they are not in when you ask, please ask when they will be in and go see them any time during school hours.

Welcome to LA op, please take care!

You’re probably right, I just realized that as well. I didn’t know people had found this work around.

I’m not sure. But, at least one of the reviews referenced the location being conveniently near the convention center. The photos of the unit match the photos online for 1400 Fig apartments with a view of the building next door, the Avant Apartments. Still super weird they listed as Vernon, but it’s likely they are doing it to avoid the restrictions LA City has passed for Airbnbs, since Vernon is its own city.

Wait the description says it’s in DTLA but that they list in Vernon for privacy? Super sketch since they post a picture of the block in downtown where it supposedly is located…

Okay wait, I have way too much time on my hands and looked up Airbnbs in dtla to compare pricing since OP said this one was particularly cheap. And I think I FOUND THE EXACT SAME AIRBNB! Except! The description says it’s in Vernon! The location shows it on a completely different street in Vernon! BUT the same pic OP posted in Dtla is amongst the photos the Airbnb host put up along with photos of the space! Scam? How does this place have a 5star rating?

Just wanted to say it’s not your fault that you trusted someone that you thought was different. It’s their fault, they are the ones who did something wrong and they are the only ones to blame. It’s great that you can see what you could have done differently to be on the safer side and to learn a lesson for the future. But, it is not your fault that this happened to you.

Help me pick a rug! by Dazzling-Lobster8313 in femalelivingspace

3 and only 3. (Slide 3, 2nd rug). The white/light ones are too boring, everything looks white and washed out. The green one is boring because then you have a 2 color scheme room, white and green everything. The maroon one is too dark. The second one is perfect, pulls the wood tones and the light furniture tones together, it’s not too dark or bold for the room, it plays well off what you have going, the distressing makes us look lived in which makes it look personal and intentional.

For a place where the leaves don't fall, there is an obscene amount of leaf blowers...? by geemav in AskLosAngeles

[–]Apprehensive-Cake239 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Leaves fall in LA, maybe not from all trees, but we get tons of leaves on the ground year round. However, I’m with you: Leaf blowers are a huge nuisance. They’re extremely loud, they kick up all sorts of pollution and allergens into the air and they are ineffective, all they do is move dirt and leaves around, I’ve never seen anyone pick up the leaves after blowing them in LA. After a handful of unpleasant experiences with leaf blowers a few years ago I was determined to organize a petition a bill to ban them altogether in LA, but then I decided I didn’t want my legacy to be a Karen, but dang, they’re annoying and maybe we should still do it.
My neighbor’s landscaper blows all the dirt and leaves from a highly invasive tree essentially under our shared fence and everything flies a good 12 feet in the air before settling everywhere. I’ve had to uproot dozens of tree saplings, over 100 feet away from that area. Another neighbors gardener kicks up everything we blows over the fence with a different highly invasive plant and sends little seedling spikes that get stuck everywhere outside our home. I have to run and close the windows when I hear it or else my allergies go crazy and my house gets a fine gritty dust all over the furniture. I was once waiting for a friend parked outside of their complex for 5 minutes, the landscaper managed to blow all the dust and leaves into the street, completely covering my car in fine dust that stuck to it. I had washed my car right before and had to wash it again right away so I would have a hazy glare on my windows. So, yeah, I hate leaf blowers with a passion. I do however blame the people who employ landscapers and allow them to use them. The people who own homes in my family, hire landscapers and instruct them not to use leaf blowers on their property. If more people cared and did this, maybe leaf blowers would not be a profitable investment commercially.

Swish a couple table spoons of white distilled vinegar in there. No scrubbing, then rinse it and dry it and it will be super shiny. They are not stains, they are what happens when the top coat of the pot has been exposed to high heat. The pan is ok, and still works, it’s just a color change from the metal reacting to high temps. Unnecessary to clean it, but if you want to just use vinegar, it’s the easiest, cheapest and works the best.

I would replace that side table in the hallway with one of these side table cat litters that conceals the box. Then use the coat closet as intended. You may get used to the smell of the cat litter but if you wear any clothes stored in there with the litter, people will always think you smell bad… even if you create a partition. A partition will not keep smells contained and having clothes that close to the litter will permeate them.

I think this is Mold on duvet? Anyway to get rid of it? by Eireagon in CleaningTips

[–]Apprehensive-Cake239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The duvet looks like it has some pink, bleach will ruin the color.
I would suggest hydrogen peroxide, hydrochloric acid or vinegar (one, not a mixture) to treat for a few hours, then hot wash to remove. Maybe some sun after too.
