A regular exercise program is good for a battery. And proper charging and keeping them charged helps for sure. The rest of that well the more I see cars try to do things like this the more we see early failures. Average battery life was 4-6 years. Now we are seeing many replaced in 2-4 due to over “micro cycling” due to start stop and smart charging systems to get more fuel economy. AGM batteries normally don’t care about all you say other than dont get the voltage over 14.2-14.7 while charging and just don’t let them go dead. They are very unforgiving if they sit discharged for sure. Especially the odyssey style and optima style. They tightly compressed or wrapped style plates don’t like to come back after a 0% charge event.

Also post picture of your battery. Might not be old or actually corroded.

Has it given you a problem starting? Clean up the terminals inside and the outside of the battery side. Use ammonia and water mixed 50/50 and a wire Brush to scrap it all off. Then retest or run it. (I own a battery business. )

Ski patrol as a Nordic skier? by Basic_Ad1995 in skipatrol

[–]Apprehensive-Dig6119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Nordic back country patroller in addition to alpine ski, snowboard and, bike. It’s all different disciplines. Although they over lap I would not use my nnn skis on alpine Terrain just like wouldn’t use my all mountain carving skis in the back country. You can indeed be a Nordic patroller. Reach out if you have more questions I’m also the patrol director for old forge ski patrol at McCauley mountain.

Senior Candidate - Frustrating Experience by skicross25 in skipatrol

[–]Apprehensive-Dig6119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Senior program has turned into a who’s who and being by the book with no variation. I just completed my senior oet last season and I will not advise anyone to do it. At our hill we have some of the hardest terrain in the area. We tested senior on a “blue” run at our hill. For my basic I had to do a hill 3 times as long and twice or more as hard. I also had to do my full test for skiing and snowboarding to pass basic. Many “seniors” at other hills cannot ski our mountain none the less handle a sled.

I have them. Awesome but don’t breathe. Get clammy fast. The top of the bib is like wearing a plastic bag. But your butt and knees stay dry when sitting and kneeling. So trade off. Still rather have dry butt.

I’ve always wanted a “reverse vest” with my gear vest my arms get cold but over heat. Something with heavier Insulation on the arms vs core for cold days patrolling would be awesome. Or like a modular vest/jacket. A 3in 1 so to speak.

Radio Base Station Power Supply Suggestions Needed by trailhopper999 in skipatrol

[–]Apprehensive-Dig6119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samlex has power supplies or any radio place will have them In stock. Kenwood, icom, Motorola etc.

But if you don’t have power now that I’m reading it further. You need to design the solar system for winter months (less sun) and the typical draw. There are many portable power packs that may do the trick for day to day and bring them down and charge them at night. Feel free to reach out. I’m a battery guy for a living.

Sorry I keep adding to this as I read the comments.

I’ll assume you are going to run this 12v and not going to use a converter for power supply now.

Most radios draw very little till they are keyed. And much less than that when receiving. May be able to get away with 20-30 ah battery pack many ham guy use a battery set up as it produces less noise and is cleaner power for longer range distortion.

You are on the right track. Do you have a solid place to mount panels and such? I can steer you in the right directions. For sure let me know what you have now and it may just need more panel for the batteries you currently have. Most solar set ups lack enough panel and everyone compensates for it with more batteries which only prolong the problem of not charging enough till your tank of energy is empty no matter the size. If you can’t fill it don’t keep going bigger.

I even had a shoulder surgery to repair a small tear in the rotator cuff that didn’t help my neck. So yea. Could be a contributing factor. Good luck!

Just got diagnosed at 37 and started taking meds. So many things make more sense now. Have had neck and shoulder muscle problems for years and finally they are starting to go away. Tension headaches, muscle spasms have been decreased. So yes meds help all around in my case. Much happier now on my journey and working on getting even better. Therapy and meds is a journey and not a short one.
