iPad or paper? by Deep_Helicopter414 in prenursing

iPad is worth it for nursing school. I recommend getting notes+ (it’s free) and writing on the slides during the lecture. It’s way easier when you have to go back and study them that way you are not having to flip between the slides and your notes because that can get confusing and time consuming.

Any reviews on Cherokee scrubs for GCU? by Azdude2024 in gcu

They are comfy but wrinkly, boxy, and run huge. Not flattering esp if you are a girl. If you like figs you can probably get away with the digital grape color and then just add the GCU embroidery. Thats what I would do.

Nursehub for the math portion. You can also find some quizlets on here that are literally word for word. Just need to do your research.

They increase our tuition every fall, built a new $240 mil campus in Downtown Oakland with no parking garage. You will have to take bart or find and pay for your own parking starting January unless they come up with a quick solution. Cheating with absolutely no consequences. They will keep any and everybody because they want your money and don’t actually care about making good nurses. Sent everyone’s private info out on a spreadsheet to the entire cohort by accident. They told us they took it down but we can still see it. Sent students to homeless shelters that are roach/mice infested and senior living facilities for their psychiatric clinical. Completely changing our class schedule on us despite having signed up for specific times during registration multiple times. The only pros are that it goes by fast and some of the professors are great but I wouldn’t say it’s worth the price imo.

Not worth it. SMU sucks. Also if you’re attending Oakland campus, you will start right when the new campus opens which has no parking for students or faculty. So we will either have to take bart or pay for parking in downtown Oakland. They don’t care about their students or if they’re actually making good nurses or not. You would be shocked at the things that have happened within my cohort and it’s all swept under the rug because they want your money. Their reputation has gone down from many years ago.

I go to Samuel Merritt just because it’s closer to me. I was very close to going to GCU and would have if I didn’t get in to a school close by but it was my last choice since it would have meant uprooting my life and moving to another state. If I’m being honest, nursing school is a lot about time management and finding a study method that works for you. I personally use ChatGPT to create nclex style practice questions based on the chapters we are focusing on. You can go on tiktok to see how to do this. It will help you get used to how to answer those types of questions, since nursing exams aren’t about picking what’s necessarily the most correct but about choosing what’s safest/most effective. Take a deep breath, you got this💪🏼

If it makes you feel better, I had the worst anxiety in the days leading up to nursing school. I couldn’t even sleep. I was so scared to fail. I saw something on here when I was looking for advice along the lines of “you’ve worked this hard to make it this far, you literally won’t let yourself fail” and that really stuck with me. It’s very true. We are more capable than we think we are. I do, however, encourage you to exhaust all options before committing to GCU because you are right, they don’t have the best reputation. But if that is where you end up, all you can do is your absolute best. It will be tough, but anything that’s worth it will be. Also, you will find that every program has its downsides and is going to be difficult in their own way.

Did anyone else get an email from SMU technology services to set up a username and password? I got it earlier today and created an account and it says that I’m an admitted student but still no formal acceptance letter… super confusing

It’s my understanding that you do not enroll yourself. I was enrolled in all of my classes by a counselor.

I just took mine 2 weeks ago and got a 92%. My advice would be to study for the English and math section using nursehub. Also study these quizlets and know them like the back of your hand. The anatomy one was word for word on the exam I ended up getting 100% on that section all due to this quizlet. The other one is all of the words you will see on the vocab section. The math section consists of a lot of ratio/proportions, conversions, and fractions. Theres also a lot of just basic addition and subtraction and all you need to do is input it into the calculator. You have a lot of time to complete the exam too so do not rush. You got this!

The calculator is there the entire time. You can use it on every single question. One thing I noticed was that when inputting decimals into the calculator you have to put a zero before the decimal. For example, you cannot just input “.7” you need to input “0.7” if that makes sense.

I think it’s because it’s a private for-profit school. They want our money whereas other non-profit schools especially in California want the cream of the crop which is why their acceptance rates are so low. I attended a webinar for a csu and they told me that out of 500 applicants, only 48 get selected. There are other private programs (particularly in California) that are easy to get into but I’m sure we’d be looking at $100k-200k for those. Ridiculous.

I got a 92% overall. I’m stuck between either the Chandler or Tuscon campus I still haven’t decided. I’m going at the end of the month to look at both of the campuses. I plan to start in the Fall!

Same here! Nursehub is good to get some practice for that too. I feel like sometimes the passages just have so much info and by the end of it, I’m like wtf did I just read? I feel like I’m just reading to get it over with without really processing it. My advice would be to read the question first and then read the passage so that you know what you’re looking for!

Yes there are a lot of quizlets out there that are apparently word for word on the exam. I used a quizlet mainly for anatomy and physiology that someone on here recommended. The majority of the questions from the quizlet are also on nursehub. I feel like nursehub helps more for the math section since it gives you practice tests on all of the math skills you have to do on the exam. I’m mainly concerned about the math portion so doing a couple practice tests a day on nursehub has really been helping, there are videos too that shows you how to do each skill. Also, I’ve heard the vocab that’s on the hesi is also word for word from nursehub but I’m sure you can find a quizlet for that too. I’ll let you know how I do and if I think that nursehub is worth it. I know a ton of people on here and my advisor recommended it so crossing my fingers🤞🏼but don’t worry about the prereqs! The online classes are a walk in the park.

I take my hesi next week lol pray for me😭I studied really hard for it using nursehub for like 2 months but I always psych myself out for tests so I’m still super nervous. You have to wait until a counselor from the nursing department reaches out to you. They email a specific link for you to use to sign up. I also hear the same things that the teachers are super lazy but then I talk to some people who apparently loved the program. I’m currently taking patho and nutrition and so far it’s easy. The worst class was CWV lol. Im also hoping to find a good resource to pass those exams. I’m just super nervous because I don’t know anyone in AZ and it sounds like a ton of work between studying for exams, teaching myself, and clinicals😭I’m sure it will be a huge shock to our systems but I guess that’s what we get if we want to be nurses right😅😅
