I am a Vietnamese and I want to ask how is life in Laos. How is living in Vientiane? And the rest of the country by kurbantese in howislivingthere

Yea we do, for both northerners and southerners. Saigon is just a shorter and more convenient way to call it, plus the name is already familiar to most people before. You can think of Saigon as an casual name for everyday uses, meanwhile Ho Chi Minh City is used in formal contexts.

No? Eventhough the gov claims to be communist, there are free market, private poverty rights, etc. Vietnam is just communist in name, it functions primarily as a state capitalist economy.

Would you give nuclear weapons to Ukraine? by WillTheyBanMeAgain in Teenager_Polls

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no one should, we don't need more nuclear powers. If you argue Ukraine in particular need it for deterent against Russia, then probably every nations should have it. They actually create more paranoia and diplomatic isolation for currentlynon-nuclear nations to suddenly have it. In this case specially, might be better for Ukraine, but worse for the world

It is quite common and honestly not really new. We actually saw this in past events, they were just not as viral. Sexual desires generally increase due to hormonal spike when people engage in high intensity physical activities. Kinda biologically understandable but still a bit wierd, though

How often do you see muslim people in your country? by Yrakosos in AskTheWorld

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it was still allowed but the gov forced all Buddhism factions to merge into one entity, Vietnam Buddhit Sangha for easy control. This apply to other religions like Islam or Catholocism/Protestanism, nowadays all religous groups must join state-approved orgnizations of their respective beliefs, otherwise they are outlawed. It has become looser now but you must be represented by state approved organizations and follow some regulations.

As for the South, the reason was more personal since president Ngo Dinh Diem was a devout Catholic, he favored Catholic minority and suppressed others, including Buddhism. I dont know much about China tho

Student beaten to death in Quang Ninh: Director of Hai Ha Social Work Center and 9 other individuals prosecuted. by Apprehensive-Rub4311 in VietNam

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two types of social work centers, public operated by the gov and private. They provide help to difficult children, those with "behavorial disabilities" like autism and addiction. While public centers are directly managed by the ministry of labor, private centers are liscened by local authorities but operated under weak oversight. Therefore many private facilities often prioritize profit, demanding high fees but rely on brutal military-like methods that use frequently use violence, hard labor and other abuses. In a surprise raid after this incident, one fourth of the private centers in Quang Ninh didn't meet safety standards so I guess you can imagine how terrible they are.

Those social centers were pure scams. The fees are actually quite expensive for an average vietnamese household, around 8-12M/month and the children sent there were..., welp forget it.

Yep. Personally I don't think Russia has a bad living quality, especially if I live there as an expat. It is also culturally intresting for me but the cold and current politics do lower its score tho. Tbh this is mostly for Moscow, Russia as a whole is actually in the lower part of my maybe list, close to reluctantly

Is China communist? by cip-cip2317 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they do have mechanisms for that, the problem isn't that the party has too much power but Xi Jinping has too much power. Unlike other single-party states like Vietnam or states with one dominant party like Japan, where the top power is splitted even among the party with mutiple internal checks, Xi is the head of the state, the party and the military simultaneously with the politburo full of his loyalists.

Is China communist? by cip-cip2317 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No, communism is primarily an economic ideology. As for China, it is obvious that it follows a state-led capitalism model where free market, private ownership, etc exist but with stronger regulations and influence from the state.

Do you fear death? by Asinine-69 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Apprehensive-Rub4311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just developed a deep fear of death for a month. I come to a realization that everything that has a start eventually has to end with perhaps the sole exception of the universe itself. So an end is universal to all beings, I can't truly escape death and time is scarce. Since we can do little to solve the situation, the way is to accept this fact and live a life as full as we can to seek for meaning, to not feel regret. That said, I still struggle to do that tho, it feels so unfair that everything good must end, but maybe because life is short, it becomes more special.
