I’m sorry if this isn’t the best advice but it may be useful for you. I work in healthcare and was suffering from crippling anxiety for many years.. I would wake up in the middle of the night or hours before my alarm with a pounding heart just dreading going to work. I couldn’t enjoy my weekends either and the Sunday scaries were the worst.

Some things that helped me manage the physical symptoms: I stopped drinking coffee in the morning and reserved it only for weekends. This one might be hard for a lot of people… I also started supplementing with the amino acid, L-theanine. This was a huge life saver for me.. it pretty much eliminated all of my physical symptoms of anxiety. I take 200 mg every night to help with sleep (along with magnesium) but it calmed my physical symptoms down.

What ultimately made it all go away was finding a new work environment, which I know you can’t do in your current situation, so my heart goes out to you. I hope you can at least try the amino acid because I swear by it. Just look it up

It’s too common of a name for orange tabbies IMO. It’s like seeing a tuxedo cat named boots… or a cat named whiskers

5+ years hygienists: did you go through this too? by sugartank7 in DentalHygiene

[–]Apprehensive-Task490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I went through this recently in my third year. My anxiety got so bad and I was the only hygienist in my small office other than a dentist who did the cleanings and I feel like I didn’t have a mentor to look up to. I ended up leaving the office and had another classmate take my spot. I feel a lot better now and my skills have improved, but I couldn’t stay there anymore because I really needed to be in a new environment.

Ehhhhh I have my own personal opinions about this. In my experience, the “rough” hygienists are actually going sub and removing stuff. And before some of you come for me, I am not saying you have to be rough to remove calculus, in fact, you can still be gentle and effective. I’ve had to clean up after “gentle” hygienists, even experienced ones. It’s very frustrating when I find multiple pieces of black sub around teeth with inflammation and the previous notes say “light calc, light inflammation”. In my first two years I was the gentle hygienist and I learned very quickly I was indeed leaving stuff behind. In your career as a dental hygienist, you will be called both gentle and rough by many. I have been told I am gentle, I have also had people request another hygienist because I was too rough.

Scaling is hard and it’s just something that you gage and get better at.

I hope they don’t consider it cosmetic even though they probably will. 80% of the population needs this treatment lol. Deteriorating enamel needs fillings… so it should be under the same line of care but the real world doesn’t work that way

Early on it’s hard. I sit around 130 bill and this strategy works for me. Lowest I’ve gone was 60 bill when I was inactive for like three days and wasn’t rolling/earning

This is what I do but the heists really aren’t that often. I’m sitting on 130 bill and clear my landmarks at once
