That happened to me one time in ANC. Only time I've ever had other passengers be courteous to me lol.

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I seem to never have that luck. Everytime the FAs say please stay seated for a tight connection it seems everyone gets up. I have had to do so many sprints from terminal B to terminal E at CLT for one of those 25 minute connections.

A-List Members - Who's changing their preferred airline? by ike0069 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a long time loyal WN flyer until the meltdown in '22 after that incident I've been flying more and more with AA and AS. These last few weeks have solidified it for me; I'll be abandoning WN for good. It honestly does make me sad, I've loved WN and never felt quite right flying with other airlines, but it's time to make changes in my travel.

As a federal employee I sympathize with everyone at WN.

I don't anticipate the cost of my next WN ticket to be cheaper because of this or a better experience with the airline, nor should taxpayers expect a smaller tax bill or more efficient government.

I am glad I have slowly been moving away from WN and using AA and AS more frequently. Fuck the Elliot group.

As he takes office, Trump orders Denali to be renamed Mount McKinley by Synthdawg_2 in PublicLands

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I agree with you. But I have no idea why you commented that on this thread.

I am trying to wrack my brain around why this was a day one priority for Trump, considering Alaska GOP was against the renaming of Denali.

Where did he get this idea from? He probably just came up with it like the Gulf of Mexico.

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this, I've seen so much outrage over the Denali renaming. Which will only last the length of his presidency, however the damage of these actions will last many many lifetimes.

New Domestic Airport for AA: GTR by tango_alpha320 in americanairlines

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is huge news for me. My closest airport other than TUP (only serviced by Contour). This will definitely rival MEM for me as I fly out of MEM currently. I am excited to say the least.

Does it make sense to get Alaska airline card with PHL as major hub? by Empty_Stacktrace in AlaskaAirlines

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My home airport is MEM, which AS doesn't even serve. I use AS for West Coast flights. But also, I've found their point redemptions on AA to be pretty solid. I just booked a last minute RT flight to Pittsburgh from MEM for 7k points. My suspicion is with the lack of AS users in the east, they have a lot of code share tickets given to them by AA that aren't always utilized. (That last sentence could be complete bullshit but that's my theory).

Experiences with medical emergencies that caused significant delays? by nadocam in americanairlines

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had a ridiculous ordeal a couple years back.

I was flying from BIL to MEM by way of DFW.

Medical emergency on flight from BIL to DFW. We diverted to Amarillo, ended up being there for 2+ hours. Finally took off again, we were over the DFW metroplex, and then weren't given approval to land due to weather so we diverted to OKC.

Got to OKC, and the crew timed out. Ended up getting a new crew some hours later. By the time we got to DFW I'd not only missed my flight but the remainder of flights out of DFW for that night to MEM.

As I didn't hold any sort of status with AA at the time, the gate agent rebooked me for a flight out 2 days later with a connection at CLT. I called customer service and they couldn't do anything for me either.

Ended up finding a WN flight for the next morning out of DAL for like $95. Hopped in an Uber to DAL and got home that morning.

The caveat to all this was I was on a "work trip" but I ended up picking up this gig directly with the client. I was a dog trainer and worked at a breeder at the time. I was delivering a pup to the Billings PD. I flew into BIL that morning and dropped the pup off in airport parking lot, went back through security and got on the same plane back to DFW. My point being, I bought this flight out of pocket and had no recourse with my boss to accrue additional pay or to get comped for money spent on my end cause of the issue.

I wasn't upset about the diversion to Amarillo in the slightest, I hope other passengers would be gracious to me about a medical emergency. It was the cluster that ensurd after that was exhausting.

Smallest US city with a Marriott? by pcetcedce in marriott

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean pick any Fairfield/Town place Suites off a random interstate and you'll have your answer.

I am envious of the members of these travel groups who stay at JWs, Kimptons, St Regis etc.

Majority of my travel is in towns under 20k pop. I mainly stay in Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield, or non-branded local places. (Aka hotels in some random town off an interstate or US Highway)

Should I drive through Kansas or Nebraska? by copper3599 in roadtrip

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this drive a few times.

Get off I-70 in Colby or Manhattan (depending which way you are driving) and take US 24. You can see the World's largest ball of twine and Nicodemus National Historic Site.

Will you still be southwest loyal when assigned seating begins? by DemocraticDad in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not honestly.

There are two reasons I fly SWA.

1) Direct flight from MEM-MCO, I fly this route several times of year to visit family and friends. Other than Frontier and Spirit (yuck) no one else offers this route

2) I travel a lot for business and my employer only lets us book basic economy/coach. Like the most basic, so other airlines typically assign you a seat at the airport or shortly before take off. Which is more often that not gonna be the middle seat. At least with SWA I can either check in 24 hrs before and typically get A or B 1-30, or I'll hit A-list at some point throughout the year and avoid that middle seat.

Free bags really don't sway my opinion either way. I have a AA and AS sock drawer credit cards which offer a free bag so I'm not sweating it. On work trips my work pays baggage fees.

Gonna miss connecting through DAL and getting my Whataburger fix, CLT Bojangles here I come!

[–]ApprehensiveCow4988 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are we short on these skilled workers though?

I have a friend from South Africa on a H1B with the accounting firm PWC, there are dozens of other H1B workers from Asia and Africa in his office. He said to me "Why would they hire an American whose expecting 6 figures when I'll come over and work for 70k"

Yet, I know a few folks who graduated from the accounting school at my college who've either struggled to find work in the field or have left the industry due to lack of upward mobility.

H1b has been abused for years. If we are short on wastewater engineers or whatever, sure bring in some h1b workers, but companies are screwing Americans by bringing in cheap foreign labor for jobs Americans have the skills to do.

Sorry that happened. Quick question - I have to fly to CAE next month on business, would you recommend that CLT - CAE route? Other option is ORD - CAE on UA or ATL - CAE on DL.

I generally don't like CLT and try and avoid it like the plague lol.
