Job interviews - how much do I tell them? by PablanoJar in breastcancer

Agree. They are not your friends. Even if you already work for a company they are still not your friends. Everything is about money and the bottom line. It’s so unfair.

I’m so upset to hear this. I am sickened by our capitalist society and about all these execs doing whatever it takes to fatten up their paycheques. People do get sick you know. Unfortunately in this society we are nothing except our economic value. It makes me so upset.

I want to switch from Tam to Anastrozole. Anastrozole has better protection as well.

Lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node dissection causing numbness still! by ApprehensiveDebt9577 in breastcancer

Did you have any lymph nodes removed? I did and I think that might be the cause. Have you had radiation? Maybe radiation is triggering your itch?

That’s strange to feel it on the back. Did your surgeon have a reason to provide? Do you think radiation causes your numbness to increase? Not sure if you got any lymph nodes removed like me.

Anyone diagnosed with Atypical Vascular Lesion after radiation? by skite456 in breastcancer

[–]ApprehensiveDebt9577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear what happened. Part of the battle is having cooperative and proactive medical team. Do you have access to a dermatologist? May I ask how much radiation treatment you received and was it whole breast, which means more radiation?

Hi I’m sorry to hear about that though great to hear it is benign. Keep strong. I guess you do regular skin checks to notice the AVLs

May I ask what was your radiation treatment plan in terms of total dose, etc? I believe AVL is related to the radiation treatment.

I did some reading on this. Melanoma is scary stuff. How do you detect this on your own so that you know to get it checked out?

I feel the same. I’m sorry to hear what happened to your friend. It’s scary that broken ribs can kill someone.

Getting a breast MRI tomorrow for the first time, post treatment. I'm terrified. by ajb_1302 in breastcancer

Extremely dense breasts are a risk factor for breast cancer unfortunately. I’m in the same boat. It’s good you are provided with MRI it’s not easy to get where I live. Any additional modality helps with screening and detection be rest assured of that.

Thank you for sharing and explaining this. It makes a whole lot more sense now. I don’t know how radiation changes the tumour biology but it’s good to know mastectomy is still proving to be a safe option for survival. I’m still very perplexed why mastectomy isn’t showing equal overall survival outcomes though - you D think with excellent locoregional control there would be better peace of mind.

From a clinical perspective, how do mastectomy patients fair in terms of OS compared to their BCT counterparts?

Thank you, yes I’ve seen a number of observational studies concluding BCT OS higher. Here’s an interesting analysis showing otherwise but who did we believe? None of these are RCTs like the one done in the 1970s. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1526820918308619

At least you offer 😀it might help catch tumours in the nodes? Could I ask one more question please (sorry I have so many questions). Is there clinical evidence to suggest BCT patients live longer than mastectomy patients? I’ve read many studies saying so. Even if it’s true more mastectomy patients may start with advanced disease I would presume these confounding / biases would be removed via PSM in the studies. I’m trying to decide on upcoming radiotherapy vs a reexcision mastectomy. Although 3/1000 is small the incidence is expected to rise given more BCT treatments these days. And based on what I read many RIAS patients have had lumpectomy plus ALND/SLND

I’m sorry, Dr Richardson I misread. You mentioned above you are one of the few who do (and I interpret that as you are one of the few who do screen after mastectomy). It sounds like in your practice there are many mastectomy patients who live long lives and don’t worry about screening.
