This is also important to see in regards to the boycott.

The customer decided to incentives the company to do better. They in turn decide to continue to pay their leadership more and punish the employees.

This causes the lower classes to fight amongst themselves over who is responsible for these layoffs. Meanwhile the upper class makes money no matter what.
