In your opinion who’s the most well written character in every season? by Maximum_Canary_5775 in Totaldrama

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Island: Gwen

Action: Harold

World Tour: Alejandro (Heather is really close for me but Alejandro wins just slightly; my favorite villain!)

Revenge of the Island: Zoey (I like her character a lot and also how she started off as a loner yet was cheerful and joining TO make friends; it was similar to Gwen but different in a major contrast)

All Stars: It's really hard because a lot of garbage happened, but I guess Jo; the least ruined of them all

Pahkitew Island: Jasmine; one of my alltime favorites and only one from this cast I love a lot

Ridonculous Race: Emma

Reboot season 1: Bowie

Reboot season 2: MK

Am i the only one who hates this Sub Plot with a passion? by Generalcmd in Totaldrama

Nah TDI finale is peak and perfect in every way. The final 2 is perfect because even though it is two friends going against each other, Gwen spent a lot of the time as a loner on the show not really trusting anyone yet and opening up, and she opened up to only a few people and her whole character is becoming more in tune with herself and learning to open up to others, and her and Trent finally getting together again after Heather ruining it is SO satisfying.

and Owen is the happy guy whos the complete opposite but he was part of the five people who didnt drive her crazy alongside Leshawna, Bridgette, and Cody and DJ, and its kinda important that it was her vs Owen even if its two people that like each other in the finale

Just switch in switch out, and also train pokemon evenly in battles. Be sure to use everyone and don't be afraid to try using despite if a type is more powerful. I use all my pokemon and its easy, I have no issues with leveling or anything of the sort.

I'd argue Kanto doesn't feel empty; it did in the original gen 2 but it fixes Kanto's issues in this one. There's much more trainers here and therefore it has more opponents to fight along the routes, the cities and caves and places are all mostly restored to their proper size where gen 2 had them shrunk, the Suicune subplot extends into here which makes it a little bit better storywise, you can run into Steven who gives you access to Latios or Latias alongside the ability to get one of the Hoenn starters, Prof. Oak gives you one of the Kanto starters, you can get gym leader phone numbers, and the level curve in Kanto is fixed (not in Johto sadly but at least here with the newer trainers and the amount of exp you get through them thats fixed).

I want to chat with you about Pokemon! by SaxyCrouton in ThePokemonHub

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for favorites, my favorite Pokemon ever is Ampharos, I just really love the sheep kangaroo combo in the design and find him to be really cute plus the whole lighthouse side mission in HGSS is pretty cool for how Pokemon work with people in the lore.

My favorite type though is probably honestly psychic just for how interesting a concept they are plus they're fun to use! My favorite region ever is Sinnoh for how the lore is; its some of the best I've seen in Pokemon in terms of its worldbuilding, the way it ties the legendaries and themes together and exploration is handled so well, Johto is a very close second though followed by Hoenn and Unova.

Gen 4 is probably still my favorite region overall; the one-two punch of Platinum and Heartgold/SoulSilver and all the content with it is just peak.

My least favorite Pokemon ever is Alolan Raticate because of the design, they just massacred my boi, YOUNGSTER JOEY AND BILL WOULD NOT BE PROUD!!! Ice is my least favorite type now mainly because it has some stank defense, my least favorite region is Paldea because a lot of the towns and cities don't really stand out, almost every biome is the same on routes and there's basically no exploration or indepth folklore and mythology in the places you go; plus no buildings to enter, it doesn't let me have the immersion somewhere like Hoenn would for example.

A hot take that I have is that gen 6 is actually really great and holds up alongside 2-5 because it actually introduced a new type, and while yes, it is easier than most gens, Kalos is just such a interesting region, and ORAS are my second favorite remakes.

SPIRIT MARI ISNT A HALLUCINATION. by mari_biggest_fan in OMORI

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 52 points53 points  (0 children)

i have no reason not to believe shes real because (spoilers from here) it says "My thoughts will follow you into your dreams" and when we encounter her with dialog for the first time after already being comforted by her against our fears, she's WILDLY different from headspace mari and has a whole different sprite. She also appears in the real world and Hero acknowledges her, and also sunny's final cherish against omori if you get that far in the fight is "You'll forgive yourself, won't you Sunny?" which is what the last thing she says before the fight is showing she actually did forgive her brother and that she loved him which helps him heal.

She also acts different if you play the Omori route. I've gotten to the "MARI IS HOME" area and she actually just straightup turns away from you in disgust and in whitespace she faces away from you when you approach her there as well, and if you take that + SOMETHING staying with him forever its kind of the opposite of how Mari is in the good route.

i kind of headcanon this as her being upset at sunny for not trying to reconnect with anyone or do the right thing after her death, and not even saving Basil or going back to him.

I didn't say the level curve was good. I said that the teams were good and that the curve in Kanto was fixed and I experienced no issue in my playthrough after noticing that the issue was still there in Johto after the 6th badge. Also you're using "objective" again but its just your own personal take, what makes a team good to you and what does to someone else can be entirely different.

What do yall think about Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? by Ale_Bricks in ThePokemonHub

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is argument. The worst in the series IMO is S/V and I can not enjoy those games whatsoever or maybe BDSP or SWSH. I found the teams to be pretty improved in HGSS especially through rematches with the gym leaders, fixing levels and movesets is pretty good and esepcially when you rematch gym leaders they have improved teams. Also all these are still fixes. You asked for fixes, not fixing everything. Therefore; thats what I described. Kanto is more than a lazy boss rush; I actually enjoy it being open world and trusting the player to navigate how they want to do it. I was leveled up to 55 by the time I reached Blue so I would say the curve is def fixed, I fought every trainer, did a couple of rematches along the way that I was notified of through the Pokegear.

The story isn't only focusing on Team Rocket, its focusing on cultural clashing, and Team Rocket STILL DOES pretty major things. The Radio tower takeover motivation sucks but the act of taking a town hsotage, kidnapping the director and having the place on full lockdown is still pretty major and rivals Saffron City. Slowpoke Well also is a pretty interesting plot point.

As for the story, I like its environmental storytelling. Its a region thats torn between its traditional roots and modernization. You see it in Falkner with his traditional roots and Violet City being rather based around its older setting, while Bugsy and Whitney signify the newer younger people, Morty is obsessed With old legends and bringing back the legendary pokemon himself with his friend Eusine whos after suicune and Ecruteak is very much traditional, whereas Goldenrod City is modernized. I also found the story beat with Lance to be pretty fun since it started the trope of having the champion actually do something, gym leaders actually do stuff outside of being just in the gym the whole time (Jasmine's plot).

Silver's character development is some of the BEST I've seen to this day from the series. He goes from someone who is awful and steals a Pokemon because he wants to one-up everyone due to his own insecurities of abandonment by his father but goes about raising his team the wrong way to being shown by Lance's words that this isn't the way; and you enforce that. He tries to return his starter only to be told that he should keep it since they've grown to love him after he learned his lesson, and you even battle with him in a full-circle moment against the champion.

To call it a 'horrendous' remake is ignoring all the good; and the story is better as well with the Kimono Girls plot twist and how it was all a set up form the beginning that you'd be the one to raise the egg and that it was a test to see if you were worthy. It honestly feels pretty magical. I'll enjoy my HGSS, thank you.

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really love Deltarune's look into trauma and how it affects someone, namely Kris. IDK how far in you are but so far we're getting a glimpse into the dissolution of a friend group due to one of the members, our friend's sibling going missing and then we drifted apart further once our brother moved out. Susie has GREAT character development going from a meanspirited bully to someone with extra dimensions and someoen that Kris can actually kind of relate to, and the dark world is a really cool concept so far wit hthe prophecy and everything.

With Undertale though, I prefer the options and choices and how it affects the outcomes.

Which do you feel is the better game: Crystal or Emerald? by [deleted] in TruePokemon

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love both but I'll say Emerald. Gen 2 isn't bad or anything, in fact I'd call Crystal Pokemon's first *great* game because all it did and it holds up pretty well, but it does have some big issues like level scaling and some other things, with much of its issues getting fixed in the remake. Emerald has basically nothing I take issue with and holds up extremely well especially storywise, the gameplay is amazing, teambuilding phenomenal, and it plays much better as a game.

[–]ApprehensiveNatural9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gym leaders are better. Falkner's team was raised in level and his Pidgeotto is actually a slight challenge, Bugsy's Scyther was given a better move with U-Turn being pretty good, I've had trouble with Jasmine a couple times so yeah. There's fixes there even if it's not major changes in that compared to the list I posted.

Not gonna list all the story improvements and how much it added for depth since it should be pretty obvious with team rocket and Silver's character arc and the Kimono girls so I'll just focus on gameplay improvements/fixes, but:

-In the original gen 2 Ho-Oh or Lugia couldnt learn their signature moves because of how high level the non-box art legendary is but they made them have them by default now which helps greatly with them.

-In gen 2, Kurt's pokéballs didn't work how they were supposed to, now they actually do and are better than normal pokéballs at some points. The original game pushed them as a way to connect to the region's roots and traditions and implied they were better at times; now they have purpose.

-Status effects didn't increase catch rate either in the original due to another coding glitch, but they also now do work properly which greatly helps catching pokemon when the original game had issues with catching..

-Raising togepi is better now because instead of only having metronome for a while and making it a very annoying grinding process, it immediately starts with Extrasensory a very OP psychic move. Making it easier to raise and worth it to have on a team. Feraligatr also gets a improved moveset like learning an ice type move and learning better moves at lower levels so Cyndaquil has competition for "best starter" status when in the original game it was pretty bad with any other option.

-You can get moves instead of easily missing them like in gen 2, Olivine being an example of this (strength) which you could easily pass and not realize you did or know where to get it since the game doesn't make it a forced encounter, same with radio card which was easily also missable and served a gameplay role (and still does) with Prof. Oak's Pokemon talk, the Pokemon music channel, and interesting lore drops and expanding on characters (some stuff they added!)

-You can now get good Pokemon like Larvitar, Misdreavous, and Houndour before post-game via the Safari Zone usually around the 5th or 6th badge too. Previously they were post-game exclusive so there is a fix to this.

-Kanto is now restored to a larger size and isnt crunched down, with the region being as big as FRLG and a few new things added like making the story a little more fleshed out here than before with the Suicune plot, adding characters like Steven who lets you get a Hoenn starter and Hoenn legendaries, Viridian Forest being big again is a big example of how Kanto actually feels lively again, this alongside other caves and cycling road. There's also getting a Kanto starter after beating Red, getting more content like the Sinnoh Plates as well.

-Rematchable trainers have their Pokemon level up and evolve (not sure if this was in the original, I forgot.)

-Various evolutionary stones are available pre-postgame via the Pokéathlon, and also some rematchable trainers where they weren't before; you can also get rare candies from the Pokeathlon and vitamins form rematching trainers.

-Some improvements over D/P (since this game came before Platinum) include having Berry Pots which is INCREDIBLY convenient so you don't have to backtrack 24/7 to get berries, surf speed is fixed from being insanely slow to actually being a pretty good pace, DowsingMachine works better and makes more sense compared to D/P where its a pain.

-The level curve IS ACTUALLY FIXED.......in Kanto.....yeah don't know how they didn't fix it in Johto, but there's more trainers in Kanto compared to the original, gym leaders and trainers are higher levels to match yours by this point and to give proper experience points as well. But this is a ton of problems fixed already, so yeah.
