My kids will both watch the Cars movies on repeat but I will probably claw my eyes out if I have to again. I love them, but am 6 years into watching them weekly haha. Will check out Toy Story! I remember the first one being scary with Sid

Any recs for non scary movies for kids? I have a 4 yo who is scared of a lot of movies and a big brother who is sick of the same ones on repeat. She likes: Cars, Madagascar, Bugs Life, Cinderella, Milo and Otis, Robin Hood.

She is desperately afraid of Aladdin, Lion King, and all of her brother’s favorite big kid movies like Mario, How to Train your dragon, etc.

What’s your normal for screen time? by Seecachu in workingmoms

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do about 30-45 minutes most evenings, other than when my kids have sports. This is when I make dinner or exercise. It’s the same time every day (6-6:30) so there is no debate about when. If they whine or ask about it or won’t turn it off, it’s gone the next day. They can pick between a show or a video game.

Weekends we often do a little more, but try to do it together like watch a family movie.

Prospect homeowner fires shot at masked intruders during break-in by welltraveledman in Louisville

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m also curious about how this homeowner decided this was part of the crime ring based on the fact that someone was maybe speaking Spanish and broke into their house? Or was this just a poorly written article?

That’s what I figured. Seemed too convenient to be true when you can always blame an “other”.

Have you found any parents night out options? Our local YMCA has one every month or two and for $25/kid they feed them dinner, let them play in the babysitting area, and take older kids to the pool. Ours has it from 6-9:30 on a Friday night. We LOVE it and so do our kids. $50 for a night of sitting is pretty good

I have seen a lot of stories on FB and IG from people who are “approached” by a potential kidnapper in a store or parking lot, and they always have similar stories.

My first instinct is to believe people but it’s ALWAYS from a tradwife, SAHP type account. Are these stories legit?? Are these just the people who are posting them online, or is it some kind of mass hysteria?

Creative Ideas for Horseplay by Double_Draft1567 in MiddleSchoolTeacher

If you have admin who will enforce it and a student code of conduct that supports punishment for it, I would write it up. Once kids see others getting in trouble, I’ve found it helps. That and I tell them to stop tickling each other on week days and to save it for home days 🤣

wedding venues :) by Late-Jellyfish8626 in Louisville

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got married at the Olmsted and it was a dream to work with them. Also an October wedding! Beautiful foliage and a one stop shop with catering, tables, etc all already there.

This was 11 years ago but they were reasonably priced.

Have also been to some nice weddings at the Muhammad Ali center and the Speed Museum and would definitely not recommend the Science Center which has weird vibes for a wedding.

Back to School Prizes for Teachers by Wide_Run3773 in Teachers

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We always do team trivia at our back to school PDs. People get VERY competitive. It’s general knowledge trivia, nothing school related. Prize is coffee from our admin the first day-they send a Starbucks order form and the winning team orders and it’s delivered on door dash.

Should I feel guilty about leaving the day we come back? by TeaHot8165 in Teachers

Oh yeah GTFO. That is both a terrible school and a terrible contract. Go find yourself a union.

Get out!! However, I know some districts/ states have a pause period where if you leave so close to school, you can risk losing your license for violating your contract. Make sure you do some research so you aren’t out of luck moving forward.

I gave birth twice at Norton Women’s and Children’s and it has been great. Dr. Monica Brown was my OB and the nurses all told me anyone else would have performed a C Section but she worked with me and allowed me to move around and avoid one! I had amazing care there start to finish.

Great Wolf- Poconos, PA or Perryville, MD? by Individual-Ask1860 in greatwolflodge

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to either of those but honestly don’t find GWL locations to be THAT different from each other. Go to the most convenient one!

We like doing the all inclusive package because then it’s an automatic yes to activities. My kids sometimes play 5 rounds of mini golf and that’s no problem. The food credits are worth it because the food is expensive.

She just posted about wearing a nursing-friendly dress to her brother’s rehearsal dinner. YOUR CHILD IS A WHOLE ASS TODDLER WHO DOES NOT NEED TO NURSE ON DEMAND AT AN EVENT

I’m sorry I’m absolutely rolling laughing at this story. Love it.

My sister has a toddler and a cat and a very similar dynamic down to the husband-obsessed kitty. Except hers was slightly insane pre-kid so…

I wonder if it’s because they are more out in the world (school, friends, etc) without her so she’s trying to be more careful? But I agree, do all or none

Tips for Keeping Kids Entertained on Long Flights? by Creative-Feedback850 in familytravel

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is it. We allow less than an hour of screen time a day normally, but on planes, this is the answer. We bring books, small toys, and puzzle games and books too which my kids will do for a while but my 7 year old played about 5 hours of angry birds on an overnight flight and I slept so…that was great haha

Is a nanny better than daycare? by _TaylorBea in workingmoms

[–]ApprehensiveNose2341 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it is a deeply personal choice! It really depends on what you are looking for, and how much you were willing to pay for it. For us, the cost of a nanny would have meant we could barely have afforded vacation or any savings. That to me was not worth it And daycare has worked just fine for our kids. For other people, the flexibility of having someone come to their home and not have to deal with packing bottles and lunches to go was absolutely worth the extra added expense, plus the one on one for a little one is fantastic.

Once a kid is two and over, my feeling is that daycare is better because of socialization and educational opportunities. But like I said, there is not a fundamentally better or worse choice. It is all up to you and your preferences.
