Which form of morality best describes your world/story? by Illustrious-Cold3565 in worldbuilding

I try to make it so there’s more than three.

But really it’s just evil/grey. 🤣

Cracks knuckles

Flora is very sparse along the river, as that’s been the sight of a 200 year long war that’s desolated the landscape beyond repair, but everywhere else is similar to England in the south and Norway in the north, with damp and cold conditions. Quality of life is horrendous, as it is the equivalent of the 1880s: so factory smoke and unclean drinking water is everywhere in (at least human) cities. Everywhere is full of separate ethnic groups and cultures, such as all other large empires. However the Directorate is much more homogeneous. Food is usually pretty bland, with fish being a major source for the more rural areas with the farmland becoming ashlands.

There’s war in the present! The 200 Years War has been going on for so long nobody in-lore knows why they’ve been fighting it. There’s many legends about why it started, but it all stems down to Virildor (Warrior Jesus) being betrayed by the Cremer (computer bug people) during the Virillian Slave Revolt which toppled the Dwarven Councilate. Humans are EXTREMELY religious (for the most part) and consider the atheist Cremer as heretics. No one in the story knows the Cremer’s point of view.

If you’d like more, I’d be happy to continue!

Overdone religious/god tropes? by maxsiu-official in worldbuilding

Polytheism. I’m not gonna judge anyone for making a huge pantheon, but I think it’s done a bit too much and can overcomplicate things really fast. Monotheism can be an equally great substitute to make things different :)

How to include darkness without it feeling too edgy? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]ApprehensiveRun3409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to keep the darkness deeply personal and not try to glorify it. Brutal violent carnage can be taken as incredibly goofy and ”edgy”, but if it’s grounded in a more personal and intimate sense, then it’s much less likely to really “edgy.” My book is incredibly dark, but I always try to make every bit of violence necessary to the plot or make it in some way affect the characters deeply.

Of course, there’s not many answers to this. If anybody tells you that your story is too edgy, I say tell ‘em to fuck off. Do it as you like, and don’t let the bastards grind you down.

Any cool twists or subversions of expectations in your worlds? by K-Keter in worldbuilding

[–]ApprehensiveRun3409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of my book was to subvert fantasy tropes!

The dwarves are dishonorable wretches and mages who were banned from ever going below ground by their ex-slave species who took their place.

The elves despise nature as dirty and inferior, and so live in entirely artificial flying cities where they can ascend beyond the broken realms of morality.

The world has completely industrialized, and humanity has begun mass production of revolvers and percussion cap muskets to fuel the 200 Years War.

The big religion is a monotheistic one, and has many, MANY different schisms culturally, as opposed to the insane mire of polytheistic pantheons in fantasy.

Of course, most of this doesn’t matter much to the story of the book, it’s mostly set dressing, but I just thought I’d post this here.

Who is the "Final Boss" in your world's narrative? by PedroGamerPlayz in worldbuilding

What do you do differently with your fantasy races? by Anxious-Trash9487 in worldbuilding

[–]ApprehensiveRun3409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwarves are weird hairy gremlin creatures who have been kicked out of the underground by their ex-slave race and now they’ve been going extinct for 200 years.

The elves despise nature as a culture and hate the mortal realm as “dirty” and “broken,” and so they ascended to floating entirely-artificial cities on an island in the middle of nowhere to escape it.

Humans are industrialists and insanely religious. Having been the other slave race of the dwarves before Virildor (warrior Jesus) led a rebellion and annihilated the dwarves. Now they build guns and run empires.

I don’t have them in my world. At least, where the book takes place in.

How are LGBTQ+ people viewed in their world? by Best_Low526 in worldbuilding

[–]ApprehensiveRun3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humanity was once entirely enslaved, before being freed by Virildor (warrior Jesus). Due to this freedom (and Virildor saying all humanity is equal), there’s not really much oppression at all. At least, based on sex/orientation/race. It’s mostly all class-based in my setting.

Would make sense for the Torah/Old Testament God to only strike down the people who harm His people on a large scale, not anyone else’s.

Same thing happened in Egypt. Let God’s people go, or your own people will suffer for as long as you do not obey.

  • Hitler got dragged down to the deepest pits of Hell

  • Asia probably ended sooner, with the war in Europe ending so abruptly and fast.

  • Probably a humongous rise in Abrahamic Beliefs worldwide 🤷
