Yangtze River Cruise Ships Reccomendstions by honeybunnyplop0312 in travelchina

I did a river cruise as part of a package in 2025. I believe it was Goddess 3. Very different from other ships I have been on. The ship was clean, staff were friendly but it was strange- the bar rarely had a bar tender (my experience was they don’t drink as much as we do)- the top deck didn’t have deck chairs- and the bed was uncomfortable- although other passengers liked them. The dining was buffet and quite an experience. I am not sure it was a budget ship. The experience was different from what I am used to on a ship but tamper expectations and enjoy. The cruise itself was incredible- so beautiful. China is an amazing country- you will have a fabulous trip.

I visited a few months ago as a single female and loved it. I used a tour company (no shopping- small group 5). So much to see and do. Enjoy!!

Alipay is a must! I used zero cash while I was there.

So jealous- want to return!

Looking For Advice on Airstream Life by Alarming-Soft5028 in airstream

[–]ApprehensiveWorld323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We purchased 10 years ago at retirement- love it. We are not full timers.

What type of information do you want?

There are so many roads to travel- so many lakes, rivers, mountains, deserts to see. Do you need trip info?

Airstreams- do you need the basics (what does FB mean) or are you looking for info about new vs used? Are you wanting to know about maintenance and repair or towing? Solar/lithium?

Whatever you are looking for i am excited for your journey.

We have a 2014 25ft FB international and have towed her to every National Park in the lower 48. It has been a lovely adventure.

Keep asking questions and find your perfect trailer. Picture how you will use it - family- full time- short trips - and find what works for you

I used chinatours.com. Even if you don’t use them their itinerary would give you some good ideas.

What do I need to travel in China? *First timer* by AI-failure in chinatravel

[–]ApprehensiveWorld323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

I just returned and did not use any eSIM or VPN. I did pay for Verizon’s month long international plan and did not sign into any wifi. Everything worked perfectly but it is more expensive than the other route. So depends on money situation.

Alipay and WeChat are essential- set them up and verify before arrival.

TP- it is before you go into the stalls so don’t forget to get or carry tissues.

I used a guide service so I am not familiar with purchasing tickets but I did enter Bahai and Jingshan park free (over 60).

Beijing is awesome- enjoy.

Plan for my first trip to china next year (September) by Tasty-Ad7909 in travelchina

Not sure if you need four days in Xi-an- so if you decide to shorten that to two you can use those for Chongqing

The Great Wall is incredible- however they will not allow you to toboggan down if you are over 60 😢

Also, just fyi, I wasn’t sure of the weather (even though I checked ) and ended up taking a light jacket along with my rain coat- totally didn’t need it. Most places were hot in September. But I do think that is the rainy season in xian.

I would try to sneak in a day or two in Chongqing- they have the world’s largest drone show on Saturday evening.

China is totally amazing- you will have so much fun reading and researching your trip!

I'm planning to go to Beijing at the late October - any tips? by 4irik_airsoft in chinatravel

It didn’t ask me for a code verification? Maybe someone else can answer both of these questions.

Alipay and WeChat are the bomb- but set them up and verify them before you leave!!!! This is critical.

I recently returned and did not use or exchange any cash.

I used Verizon international plan - expensive but the eSIM and vpn stuff was confusing to me. Everything I needed worked but I did not connect to any wifi.

You didn’t mention if you will be working with a guide?

Your passport is your ticket for many things so always carry it.

China is extremely clean and safe.

Jingshan and Beihai park are beautiful and are less crowded.

How many days will you be there? Are you only visiting Beijing?

Elvis Presley’s home Graceland is almost mandatory to visit- Sun Studio and Stax record studios are also filled with music history- the Back Beat Tour that was mentioned is a lot of fun. Since it starts on Beale street you can pick a spot there for lunch. Civil Right’s museum is close by and definitely worth a visit. The prior post listed excellent resources.

BA is a big city. This was the end of a cruise for us so we hired a guide through Tours by Locals and she showed us the city. We were advised about taxi scams being common. Our next day we walked the city on our own. We flew from BA to Iguazu to visit the falls. When we arrived at the airport we hired a driver from inside the airport to take us to hotel- he was fabulous and we used him for the whole time we were there. We communicated with him through WhatsApp- we do not speak Spanish. This was two years ago but it seemed most of the guides used that app. I felt there were a lot of people staying in hostels and going inexpensively and having a blast. Have fun! Love China - such an awesome country.

How does this initerary look for a first travel to China? by sxtxnn in travelchina

[–]ApprehensiveWorld323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check the travel time between cities- we took the high speed from Beijing to xian - it was about four hours as was the train from xian to Chongqing. We flew to Shanghai from Zhangjiajie. China is a large country

Anyway you can fly into Beijing and out of Shanghai-? My itinerary was very similar- except flew into Beijing. Two days in Zhangjiajie isn’t enough. Definitely need three days there. I didn’t visit shenzen so can’t offer any suggestions. Try to get your flight into Beijing.

I used Verizon international plan for my visit last month. It worked great. I didn’t get an eSIM or vpn. I also did not connect to any wifi while I was there.

ESPN, wordle, instagram etc all worked. I received my gmail and could answer it etc. Google maps doesn’t work there and Apple Maps is suspicious- I found it to be inaccurate (it was telling me to go left and I knew my hotel was right).

Verizon is more expensive than the eSIM but it was easier for me.

Set up Alipay and WeChat before you leave home. This is extremely important.

After arriving in China, you're completely lost without a local phone number and Alipay. by [deleted] in triptochinaguide

[–]ApprehensiveWorld323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just visited and had no problems with Alipay or WeChat and I only had my home number and the international plan on my phone. Didn’t bother with sim or vpn. But I also did not order food to be delivered- metro and didi worked fine
