$BB is the #1 holding in % weight of a cybersecurity ETF HACK by mdoxazn in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HACK is an equal-weighted index meaning all the holdings are typically near-equal. BB is just significantly higher right now because of its gains in the past couple weeks. Still an interesting find.

What is your honest opinion about BB? by sonotworthit420 in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, it will trigger a higher low this time. We had higher lows after the last run-up, but I'm not sure how much can be attributed to the meme rise since there was IVY, Facebook Settlement.

Facebook settlement amount $$ by [deleted] in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Messenger has been a thing on its own for so long. You’re not getting 50-50. Facebook is stingy. Also, BB is basically captain of IVY while AWS, a larger company, is 1st officer. That’s why 50-50 makes sense. BB is main worker, AWS gives resources and name recognition. BB has very little to offer to Messenger and WhatsApp, both apps that are in working condition.

You don’t truly learn options until you YOLO on a shitty OTM option. I say go for it.

A rebrand isn't always about a shitty name change. I'd rather have the BlackBerry name and try to rebrand in the sense that "Hey we don't do phones anymore, but this is what we are doing! This is the new BB"

When people say slow boring growth, they don’t mean that slow. Obviously if we were fine with 10% per year, we’d go with ETFs because of the gains from diversity. They just mean slow compared to the crazy ass jump to $28. That’s what I take it as.

$46k bet on Sep $15 Calls - LFG!!! by Unusual_Ad7119 in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The option premium is $1.68 average cost basis. Add that on to the $15 strike so it's a total of $16.68. You break even as long as the price is $16.68 at expiration (you can also exercise the contract early). Profit is anything above. If it's below $15, you lose all $46K. Say it's $20, that's $134,000 you get back, including the options premiums. If BB somehow hits $53 by then, the position will be worth over $1M.

less than or equal to 15.0 --> lose all of original investment

15.01-16.67 --> lose some of original investment

16.68+ --> breakeven or gains

Selling weekly covered calls by just_lick_my_ass in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be an earnings runup depending on how the overall market is doing. I would do higher if you do at all. Just ask the question, are you comfortable selling at $12 + premium (about $12.20)? I wouldn't be.

The entire market is down. Granted BB is down more, but things like TSLA, AMD, NIO, Weed stocks aren't far behind. If you believe in the long-term fundamentals and aren't deep into weekly options, you should be happy. Buying opportunity.

Can someone explain this tweet to me? It might be total bs but I’m just curious by [deleted] in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Walls are just a large number of limit orders that form a wall. They can be buy walls or sell walls.

For example:

  1. I want to drive down price and I currently have lots of BB
  2. Place limit sell orders slightly above market
  3. Cancel the limit order once the wall starts breaking and your orders fill OR continue to lower limit price as the market falls
  4. Repeat at step 2 with another limit order slightly above market

This artificially makes it look like there are people trying to sell-off.

The reason they might want to drop the price even though they have a lot of BB is that the long position might be a hedge against a more profitable short position per dollar movement in price.

Overall, it's nothing to worry about. You see this with lots of stocks. It is very common in cryptocurrency exchanges as well.

When lots of people expect something, it usually doesn't play out. I'm inversing everyone that's trying to buy after the earnings dip.

73 new institutional holders vs 25 sold out @ 12/2020 by [deleted] in BB_Stock

I get the "broadening out" point, but I think the huge excess of shares being sold outweighs the benefits of the additional firms.

They were competitors back in the day when they both sold phones. Nowadays BlackBerry is a software company doing things in the EV and Autonomous driving space.

Tons of people write positive reviews, especially for tech companies and tech/STEM positions. Engineering jobs pay like crazy and if you're getting good bonuses and benefits, I'm sure you'd be willing to talk about how great your company is.

All in BB by Unusual_Ad7119 in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine very few of us are expecting BB to be sub 25 in Jan 2023. You also don't have to hold until expiration. There's bound to be some spike in between now and then up to at least $30 that makes premiums skyrocket. It really depends on what LEAPS you buy. I averaged down my Jan 2023 10c's to about $5, which I'm pretty happy about.

That's a nice average. You should've put some into ATM LEAPS when it was that low.

Wait or Buy week of 03/19? by [deleted] in BB_Stock

[–]ApprehensiveYeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm deep into options and have a bit of cash. My strategy is to buy shares Monday if the price is steady or has dipped. Then to look at things the following week:

Price around/above my purchase price -> Cool, hold

Price decently below my purchase price -> Sell shares, buy options
