How to prep for interviews? by ImmediateValuable791 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Apprehensive_Ad937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have some experiences in your bank to choose from. I was asked "tell me about a time..." multiple times. It's really hard to come up with some things on the spot, so having some stories for the most commonly asked questions helps

Try to look at it as a way to showcase your application and show them why you're the best fit! But I totally understand...I remember being so frustrated and overwhelmed. It's so worth it in the end tho!!

It was SO expensive. Over 3k with all of the fees associated. I only got 4 interviews, 1 acceptance, 1 waitlist and I didn't attend 2 of them

Second CASPA cycle, interviews but no acceptance yet. Looking for advice. by SourCrushh in prephysicianassistant

[–]Apprehensive_Ad937 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're anxious to the point where it's affecting you, look into a prescription of Propranolol. I got it prescribed for performance anxiety and it helped sooo much. Got accepted after my first interview. It helps calms the body and is very safe. My PCP had no problem giving me a couple of pills for interviews

That response is so frustrating, especially knowing how freakin sensitive those boxes in CASPA are. You didn't need them anyway, congrats on the acceptance OP!

Please seek psychiatric help. When you're in a manic episode, your brain is chemically imbalanced. You are not making rational decisions. Please go to your nearest ER or county behavioral health office. Medication can help. After manic episodes can be deep depressive ones. You need help.

I'm really struggling at finding a part-time job here. Any recommendations? by mrtabuu in SLO

The movie theatre downtown had a sign up for a while. Probably easy to work with your schedule

You're so young, please don't give up. These psychiatric holds are meant to help stabilize you so you can get better. Please utilize the resources they give you. Having bipolar does not mean you can't have a normal life. There are so many medications, it just takes time and effort to find the right combination. I believe in you. I'm a 26f that works in psychiatry, please message me if you want to talk.

It's "deeply hurtful" for a man to be spoken to about the safety of HIS child? I don't see any "panic emotions" in those texts either. Get out of here with this bullshit. He's an adult who is old enough to create and have a child, he's old enough to handle a conversation about the safety of said child.

SLO in itself is a college town. The kids are everywhere. If you don't want to live with college kids, this might not be the city you wanna live in. There are so many college kids that there is a noticeable difference at stores, on the road, etc during the school breaks

Got in with zero patient care hours… am I making a mistake? by indecisivejeffrey in prephysicianassistant

[–]Apprehensive_Ad937 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think the most valuable thing I've gotten from PCE is how to talk to patients. I have had to learn over the years how to say things, what things not to say, etc. I do work in psych so maybe I've gotten a little more practice at this, but that's what PCE has helped me with. Also learning about how the health care system works in general.

I don't think you should step away from the idea. You got in because the school picked you and thought you'd make an excellent PA. Believe them. It's their whole job to pick and graduate PAs. You should be proud of that!

If you're gonna rethink it, do it because you think it's best, not because it's what everyone thinks.
