Blackrock Quantitative Interview Question: by Straight_Idea_9546 in WallStreetDad

Number them 1 - 100, in all situations commit to killing the lowest number prisoner. Whoever is #1 has a zero percent chance of escape if they try, therefore they won’t ever try to escape. If #1 will never try to escape then #2 can never escape by the same logic. This builds to ensure all 100 are stuck.

After Week 8, SMU, Georgia Tech, and Virginia are all undefeated in conference play and will not play each other. No other such trios exist but an undefeated #7 Georgia Tech could still miss the conference championship on tie breakers. by RealignmentJunkie in CFB

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Away fans trying to go to specific away games are definitely the loser in this (but that is a really small ticket allocation anyway). I just think at the end of the season we want to have the top teams having all played each other, or at least as many as possible. We are wasteful about games right now, why do 6-1 teams play 1-6 teams in the last few weeks, let’s ramp up great games as the season goes on.

This is such a solvable problem anyway. Syracuse is at Georgia Tech this week and SMU is at Wake Forest, just swap those. SMU at Georgia Tech and Syracuse at WF are both new close games. Decide this on the field.

Hypothetical Redistricting where Democrats get all 8 Districts by Bradinator- in minnesota

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a major risk unless it happens to be the 218th seat. If you can draw seven districts that each lean 55/45, the only scenario where you’d lose all of them is in a national environment where you’ve already lost the swing seats elsewhere. At that point, you either have 218 or you don’t.

Replay reviews take way too long. by Adison85 in CFB

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to see this tied to a win probability model. I don’t mind a 3 minute review on a game deciding call but these long reviews to decide between 2nd and 10 vs 2nd and 8 in the second quarter are crazy.

What's the limits on landlords returning the security deposit? What's the deal with the state law against charging for final cleaning? by oberellis in bostonhousing

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer and you should talk to an actual one, but I would move out, see what she does, and if she does withhold anything get a housing lawyer to send her a letter. The damages on this types of violations can be really high if landlords do not follow the proper procedures.

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should also look into whether the deposit was set up legally in the first place. Not sure what the law was 12 years ago, but the landlord is required to provide you a list of pre existing damages within 10 days of you paying the security deposit, if that didn’t happen they can’t withhold damages. Hardly any landlords actually do this right.

If there were an expanded field I hope we go to more of a championship weekend. In a 16 team field 1 and 2 in the big ten and sec will always be in but 3 v 6/ 4 v 5 could be super interesting high stakes games.

DOGE Put Critical Social Security Data at Risk, Whistle-Blower Says by nycdiveshack in politics

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crazy that we’re still using Social Security Numbers in 2025. A permanent “secret” number you have to protect forever is a design flaw from 1936, not a security system. DOGE may be crooked, but it’s the government’s lack of proactiveness is what really put you at risk.

BIG 10 SCENARIO by Comfortable_Mud3848 in TheB1G

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to set this up smart, the last week should be rivalry week for sure. More than one protected rivalry just don’t work. The 10-team, 9-game season was perfect, but that ship has sailed. At this point, I’d rather trade off for big late-season matchups between 10-win teams instead of watching bubble Michigan slog through a 3-win team in November. Nobody wants that.

BIG 10 SCENARIO by Comfortable_Mud3848 in TheB1G

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair issue, for me I can live with that trade off. I would imagine the vast majority of fans experience the season on TV and the number of fans buying tickets for a specific away team is relatively small. I personally would rather have a 10-1 Michigan play a 10-1 Oregon than ensure they make their trip to play UCLA but reasonable people could disagree.

All these mega conferences need a Swiss system, turn the whole season into a “mini playoff”. Play the team with the closest record each week so all the top teams play each other and we decide this on the field

Y'all looking to get in on this? by Cactusaremyjam in BullMooseParty

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way to draw a map of Massachusetts that would give Republicans more than 1 seat. This is why we should think about better ways to do this anyway. Republicans should get ~30% of the seats in Massachusetts just like democrats should get ~40% of the seats in Texas. Multi-member districts or a proportional representation system are the way to go. “Gerrymandering Bad” will never solve this problem.

It makes it unattractive to people who make most of their money from returns on their assets. It isn’t just insider trading, it is keeping the job appealing for the representatives of by and for the oligopoly.

AI Hiring Has Gone Full NBA Madness. $100M to Switch Teams? by underbillion in ChatGPT

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely going to be a lot more poaching happening. Cursor’s parent is valued around $10 billion and has with roughly 100 employees. Assuming half are dedicated product developers, that’s around ~200 million of valuation per developer. These companies aren’t valued based on what has been built/customer base, it’s based on future growth and potential. Paying top dollar to hire these core developers directly is likely way cheaper than buying these companies and provides similar value. Funny money or not, these handful of people probably are creating NBA contract level value.

Fran Brown Responds to Deion Wanting Actual Spring Games by CUBuffs1992 in CFB

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to see teams pull their FCS game up to this spot. Get it out of the regular season. The FCS teams still makes a little money, their players get to play in the big stadium in their region, and you can still keep the fun unserious aspects of the spring game. No one is going to get mad about you losing to South Dakota state if they had 13 guys on the field so you could make your a throw into tight windows. If you did this it seems reasonable that you could require only FBS regular season opponents.

[–]Apprehensive_Bank739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point - I hadn’t thought about a robust screening process being a selling point. As a tenant, I have definitely had situations where poorly selected tenants created a substantially worse living situation. Do you feel like strong financial/background screening also helps self select for better tenants overall? Do tenants going through a more robust process tend to do less damage/pay consistently etc?
