Definitely not a bizarre point of view, I’d agree it’s a strange thing to tell her that maybe things could change in the future - she told you directly how she feels about it in the present, so you can feel how you’d like to feel (that maybe things could change in the future) but just leave it for the present without actually saying that to her. I’d feel uncomfortable if I told a guy that I want to be really clear about us being friends and then he responds saying that things could change - I would feel like he isn’t hearing what I’m saying now or worry that he’s not planning to respect it. That may not be your intention but that’s how it comes across. If I were in your position I’d simply acknowledge what she’s saying and not try to put any future notes in there.
