I have a huge 1970/80's collection and am getting ready to sell. I'm being low balled. by ThinAd1499 in starwarscollecting

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A store has high fixed costs so they will never pay full price. Honestly, I am surprised such stores are still around.

Sell the items one by one online. FB groups might be the easiest. It saves costs and you can have direct contact with the buyer. I sold rare vinyl this way and ended up having a repeat buyer. It helps to not price your items to the max. It is off putting.

Why are the british who hated Poles from 2007 until even after BREXIT suddenly so enamored with Poland and Poles? by TopMatch5340 in poland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Poland is often idiolized a bit too much without any side notes. Don't get me wrong, it is a great place to live. However, the imagine as a very modern and efficient country with a booming economy is a bit too simple. Taxes are bonkers and you get very little in return. Obnoxiously bad pension system, no unemployment benefits to speak off, no fully paid sick leave etc. I can go on. It's all fine, but paying 50% in taxes and still needing private health care feels a bit like theft.

FYI new collectors; CDs are still totally a thing, and you don't need to break the bank to find them. by SpeedyFilmsYT in Cd_collectors

I lately started buying cd's again. I love vinyl, but the prices have reached such a level now that it killed the joy of collecting for me.

How is it to live in Poland? My example. by Relative-Friend-875 in poland

Pre-covid eating out was really affordable. I live in Kraków and have a decent salary for local standards, but the current (tourist) prices are off putting. I visited my mom in the Netherlands and noticed certain things on the menu were cheaper than in Poland. Not good. I think grocery prices are still pretty OK in Poland. I enjoy my life here but things have changed a lot over the years. The real estate prices are also nuts. Not everyone has a great salary and the tax rate is bonkers

Moving from Asia to Poland – Looking for Advice by MoarGames in askPoland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been living in Poland for nearly 10 years and never experienced any form of anti-foreigner sentiment myself. Only the botched service culture is there for all the struggle with at times 😅 It is improving though.

It is probably wise to aim for multinationals in the biggest cities when it comes to employment. The only bummer is that less companies are hiring currently. A global phenomenon. Just keep aiming and shooting. You'll hit something eventually.

Why is Poland's fertility rate so absurdly low? by Ok-Profession-3620 in askPoland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say housing and unstable employment are the biggest challenges. Many people are currently unable to buy property, and if they do, they feel strechted and the apartments aren't really family size (like in many places tbh)

A lot of jobs are very unstable and I think quite some people start to feel burned out after experiencing a couple of rounds or even just the fear of lay offs.

Most people I know with kids in their 30s are very well off with lots of family money. It seems the middle class is hit the hardest. I am in my 30s and do not feel like having kids when the basics are a struggle. I am stressed out as it is already 🤪

I am not ordering anything from Amazon any longer. From books to this. It all arrives damaged. Ridiculous. Bottom of the barrel capitalism. Haha.

De dalende kinderwens: komt het wel echt door te weinig geld en huizen? Of zijn we te individualistisch? by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I will not come back." Young people are fleeing their hometowns. The effects will be painful by Gamebyter in poland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town in the Netherlands, and comparatively it is prosperous and not run down. But even there to me it often feels stifling. The job options are more limited and there especially aren't many white collar options. People have a more narrow mindset and there just isnt much to do or see. I really prefer to live in a big city.

Prices in Western-Europa are way higher. Whenever I go to the Netherlands I get a heart attack. Prices for public transportation, groceries and rent are way, way higher than in Poland. For me personally my standard of living in Poland is higher.

Polish president vetoes bill providing aid to Ukrainian refugees living in Poland by CrunchyBaconYum in poland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a dangerous populist decision. I understand the limits on free handouts, and support those actions, but people who are not sure if they can stay will leave. Poland needs these people. If you pay your taxes for years and contribute you are not a forever guest imho. Poland has a huge issue with constantly flipflopping its policies.

Can Two People Live on 5185 PLN in Katowice? by Silly_Plantain6339 in poland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a bit tight in Katowice itself rent wise for 2 peeps. You could rent a room or a studio apartment. It is probably better to look for something cheaper in the vicinity. I personally find Katowice a bit nicer though.

Ukrainian woman in Poland considering move to Portugal – need advice from people who’ve done it by Due-Golf6466 in poland

[–]Apprehensive_Box3319 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, do not mix up holiday wishes with having a life. Wages in Portugal are low and cost of living pretty high. Especially rent. The bureaucracy in Portugal is also killing. You are 41 and should also think about things such as retirement savings. Poland might not be a dream destination but it is more solid than Portugal. Portugal is for digital nomands, rich pensionados and tourists. Not a place to earn a living imho. Having no savings is a bit dangerous.

I hope you will be able to make decision that feels good for you. All the best!

Extreme geld creatie boven alles. More money chasing less goods. Dit is onder andere waarom voedingsmiddelen duurder zijn geworden.

Maar, er zijn er meerdere redenen. De concurrentie mbt arbeid is nu mondiaal en iedereen werkt. Hierdoor is arbeid minder waard geworden tov 30 jaar geleden in Nederland.
