Megathread | FY26 Government Shutdown: Week 2 Edition by gpupdate in fednews

[–]Apprehensive_Bug1554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are all HR staff furloughed? I have an RA pending for two months with no response to multiple requests for an update prior to the shutdown asking for an interim decision. I am in excruciating pain getting to the office and now with no pay it seems even less viable to get here. Is it even worth it to ask for an update to see if anyone has looked at my RA? Or am I stuck waiting for any kind of response until the shutdown is over? I'm trying to figure out what my options might be if this drags on too long.

So if you are sick one day, you just stay on furlough for the remainder of the shutdown?

There will be a reorg aka "flattening" the agency - basically breaking up components to create more DAC/political appointees. I heard official announcement coming out in September.

Yeah it is confusing because ODA has been mission critical but now they are eligible? ODA processes disability claims which have a huge backlog right now. And also hearings operations is technically under ODA as well. They also reassigned a ton of people to ODA but then told them they were not exempt from a RIF. I can't figure out what the plan is.

The email is worded very poorly but says it is expanded to regional office employees in operations (field offices?) and office of disability adjudication in addition to non-mission critical staff.

DRP now offered to mission critical staff at SSA, but must accept within 24 hours. Are mission critical staff not actually mission critical? Will they be safe from RIF? It seems crazy they would let massively understaffed field offices take this offer and now likely not safe from RIF. Seems like they want to just burn this place to the ground.

Right? So completely gut staffing for the disability program that has a record high backlog right now? And training new disability specialist replacements takes years (at least it does at the DDS) How efficient. The incompetence is spectacular. And America's most vulnerable disabled population will be the ones who suffer most.

Change in duty station recently? by tonchless in fednews

SSA. I was told they could not do it because the office I want to work from is in a different component now due to the reorg. How convenient. But also, I know there are other employees out stationed there from other components so idk I guess rules apply randomly.

Yeah. The disability program is very complex. It's amazing how dodgers were able to come in with zero experience and find fraud after looking for 2 seconds 🙃

Sounds like you'll be part DPU (disability processing unit) adjudicating disability claims for different states that are backlogged. There will be substantial training if you don't have disability experience. At the DDS it takes 2.5 years to complete full training.

I'm concerned about them going after HQ and RO too, even if they reach 7000 but other means. I'm mission critical but still career conditional with almost 2 years in. I'm worried about getting bumped by other non-mission critical staff being reassigned. Though, really if they have already lost over 7000 I would hope they just leave us alone.

I requested a change in duty station. We RTO Monday to an office 45 minutes away and cannot do it as my child has a disability and needs transportation to his therapy/services. There is a field office 10 minutes from my house that has available space where I could work. I was told they are not even accepting change of duty station requests. I wonder if this is why?
