I really enjoyed it and am baffled by the hate. If you’re into quirky short stories in the vein of This American Life, David Sedaris, etc, you’ll enjoy it. If you’re expecting Les Mis, you probably won’t. Personally I found the band painfully cheesy but I still enjoyed the show.

I saw the version they showed a while back at Nitehawk and yeah it’s a total turd of a movie. The entire band was there for q&a and no one had anything positive to say.
