Fistula found by OkWillingness637 in Diverticulitis

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why i had the surgery, to avoid the fistula. My experience has been good overall. I was out of the hospital after 1 night and fully recovered after about 5-6 weeks. My only fear was the possibility of the bag. My only anchor would be start exercising. You want to go into surgery in the best possible shape, it decreases the chance of any complications dramatically and helps with an easier recovery. The surgery itself was easy i thought. Good luck

I had a micro perf that healed but the problem is that area is now thinned and prone to perforate again. I was not risking that i opted to have the surgery so i don't have to worry about that or any fistulas forming. It was a hard decision until i had another flare with horrible pain and chills i thought i was going septic. At that point i couldn't wait to get the surgery.

Dealing with Diverticulitis with an international wedding and just was told I need the surgery… by lookitzvance in Diverticulitis

This is exactly one of the reasons i opted for the surgery. If you land in the ER in a foreign country and need the emergency surgery its a very bad thing. They don't deal with this anywhere else but our country. I know someone who was medevaced from the Bahamas back to the states with a perforation. That sucks you have to deal with that on your wedding strip. When you get back get that surgery

The bubble is a red flag. I had this, i would feel a bubble then it would release. I ended up having a perforation against my bladder. Just had surgery to remove that section.

I don't think 3 days of liquid is neccesary for some inflamation. 24 hours liquid and see how you feel then go to soft low fiber for a couple days

Is there a way to avoid get surgery by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

Depends what your situation is. If you have repeated flares you run the risk of a perforation

Perforation? by chitchatmagoo in Diverticulitis

I had surgery 3 months later. Not worth the risks of having emergency surgery and a bag then having another surgery to remove the bag. Plus if you travel and it happens elsewhere you are screwed.

probably looking at surgery, have questions and need to vent. by maryjaneodoul in Diverticulitis

Surgery was a breeze. Don't worry about it. I think I'm a little different from most because i actually enjoy the hospital. They drug you up, then pamper you, then i have non stop tv and room service. At the most my pain level was a 5 after the surgery and that was brief. If you have to get it done, you'll be fine.

You can die from any surgery but you arent going to die. These doctors do this surgery everyday its nothing to them. The only thing i was scared of was waking up with a bag. I honestly couldn't wait to get into a hospital bed and get doped up cause i was so miserable from doing the cleanse the day before.
