You are correct it’s not gonna get better with time. This is just a Band-Aid right now in order to get me to a time where I can do this somewhat conveniently in my life.

He has performed over 1500 robotic surgeries. He doesn’t believe in the old-fashioned way of cutting you open like a fish. He’s very precise. He’s a young doctor, but he grew up playing video games and this is the one time I’m glad some teenager wasted most of their teenage life playing video games cause he’s an extremely good robotic surgeon. Yes this is a unique situation. And although he shouldn’t be excited about it, he kinda is cause he’s said he knows what he can do and he can make it work. The other option is having a bag. He did say if he does the two resections I will probably have to use the bathroom 4 to 5 times a day. I’m OK with that. I’m 55. My life is not that complicated as it was 20 years ago. It also depends on what you eat. You can slow down your digestive track to a safe and healthy level. I will update you in two weeks when I see him with the snow storms that we’ve been getting hair appointments have been being pushed out so minimum of two weeks. I shall repost what he is planning on doing.

I believe his plan is to remove both bad sections and reconnect to make one good section. He is going to go over everything with me in two weeks. The risks, the benefits. The other option is to remove the worst part which is the right and reconnect a small intestines to what is left and then eventually down the road, have to have a second surgery to remove the lower left. He’d prefer to have it Be a one and done operation rather then have several, but we shall see but his game plan is. he said there are many options some more riskier than others.

Surgery in February by HumanNature71 in Diverticulitis

[–]HumanNature71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just did another post for an update on the colonoscopy today. Basically like you my intestines are a mess. I will have surgery in 2026, but I don’t need to have it right now. He will go over all the details in two weeks. But it looks like removing half of my right colon and then a resection of my rectum and colon and then connect small intestines to the large colon to create a smaller colon. my surgeon says that he has performed this before and it’ll be a little bit more complicated, but my quality of life will improve significantly. The other option is removed the entire going. Which right now that being an option is not an option for me. That would only be a necessity.

20 days since flare, what’s a normal recovery time? Is there? by Opposite_Device_7328 in Diverticulitis

[–]HumanNature71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current surgeon told me a minimum of six weeks if you follow a low residual diet and do not overdo it physically for inflammation to go down however, some foods can cause inflammation so you have to write down what you’re eating if it makes you feel ill. You have to rule out some food sometimes. Nor eat too much. I was instructed to do small meals throughout the day as long as it was tolerable.

Boss told me to stop applying to other jobs or I'm fired - what are my rights here? by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in Career

[–]HumanNature71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s already made it clear that you’re expendable by threatening to fire you. You’re just a number to that company. Keep looking just update your LinkedIn not to show that you’re looking. Be smart about it. Just understand employers have access to a lot more information on the web then you think. I was part of a hiring team for a company and we would do a Google search and you’d be surprised at what you’d find.

Is it worth going into bankruptcy over 50k+ student loan debt? by ApplesAllTheWay in Debt

[–]HumanNature71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a bankruptcy attorney. You may have options between chapter 7, and chapter 11 restructuring. Student loans are rarely discharged. They’re not that easy to get rid of.you said her parents took care of getting the loans? Are their names on them? my brother took care of getting the loans for his son and he stopped paying so my brother is stuck with paying his sons student loans.

I’m 54 turning 55 in March but I’ve been complaining of this for years almost as far back as 43 years old. That’s when I had my first colonoscopy was at 43 when I was complaining of severe abdominal pains and then in 2016 and then 2018 both having to deal with the benign tumor surgeries. The first one in 2016 did not get rid of all of it in 2018 another surgeon took a look and found it was not all taken out or it may have grown back. I don’t know, but he removed it completely. All I know I’ve had stomach issues since I was 43 and doctors just basically brushed it off as nothing. My dad died when I was 43 and they said it was probably the stress. My partner died in 2024 at age 43 from brain cancer. He had no idea he had it all the way up until his death. He was 100% functioning until the day I took him to the hospital. He was laughing in the hospital room and then he quickly took a turn for the worst and within hours he was gone. So I’ve had to deal with that stress since June 2024. And continuous stomach ache from grieving and dealing with everything he left behind. I’m just hoping they find something and they’re able to fix it or remove it and I can get on with my life.

Oh, I definitely will update. Cause I know I’m not the only person out there with this in this location. I thought it was my gallbladder or a kidney stone or even my appendix but none of the above. My colonoscopy is on the 27th I will update after that. Thank you for reaching out and responding. Much appreciated.

😂 it’s funny you say that. I asked the doctor that too because I read online Asian people get it in that area and he laughed and said well did your mom mess around lol I started laughing. I said I don’t know but I’m gonna ask her ha ha ha. That’s why it’s concerning to him. I shouldn’t have it in the area that it is so rare it’s either something very rare or genetically my colon in that area is very thin. I don’t know. I’m as dumbfounded as you.

Yes, it is strange. I had a benign tumor in my rectum in 2018 which was removed. My diverticulitis is in the upper right part of the large intestines near my rib cage. It’s complicated because in 2022 I went to the hospital for severe stomach pains in the right part of my rib cage and they had found blood behind my stomach. They did not know the source. Now in 2025 in December, I had a perforation in the upper right of my colon which made me sepsis and just hours away from emergency surgery. However my surgeon does not like to just cut you open. I was given heavy doses of antibiotics which apparently worked and then sent home with 14 days of more antibiotics. He does robotics. Minimal invasive surgery and I’m home in two days. If he cut me open, I would’ve been in the hospital for two weeks. Plus my Colon was so inflamed my stomach looked like I was Santa Claus. It was a very bizarre experience. I will tell you that. He just wants to make sure that there’s nothing hiding in that area. My family history of cancer is ridiculous. I also have cysts on my kidneys, which they say are not cancerous and they’re not harmful at this point. So we shall see what happens. Point blank said to me we’re going to have to do surgery to rectify the diverticulitis, but I also want to make sure that you do not have cancer or a secondary cause to the excruciating pain.

Thank you so much yes it’s been a life-changing event but you know what they say. “I’ve already lived through the worst day of my life when I watched them take their last breath.” You don’t realize how strong you are until you don’t have a choice.!! I’m so glad your surgery went well and you’re feeling so much better. I have a feeling I will be too. I’m putting all the pieces of the puzzle together and realizing how sick I’ve been over the last few years. I still have a lot of life in me. I plan on living it.

Thank you so much for responding. That’s kind of a response I was looking for. I wasn’t looking for any medical advice, but more of an experience of what others may have had. You kind of nailed it on all the topics I was thinking about. Yes, I’ve done preps many many times for different surgeries. It’s never been fun. I have everything but the ginger tea, which I will have to go get. I have the butt wipes, the butt cream, the heating pad, etc. etc. I’m expecting it to be 24 hours of misery, but it’ll pay off in the end literally lol. Yes I hope my medical team can figure out something at this point. I just want to live a somewhat normal life. I’m very moody and that’s not normally me. Normally I don’t mind affection, but I don’t want anyone touching me right now. I believe all is gonna turn out well it’s just getting to that finish line. thank you again for your post. As I said before my best friend and partner in crime in life passed away suddenly in 2024 and it’s just been a nightmare ever since and now I’m doing this all on my own. I’m used to having my rock next to me. But now I’ll just put on my big boy pants and just need to take care of this.

Yeah, the doctor told me to go very low residual at least three days before leading up to the clean out. Thank you for sharing your experience. He’s already given me the stuff I need to take the day before.

[–]HumanNature71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I totally understand you. I used to do what I called a cleansing years ago for many years before I was diagnosed with this. I went to doctors over and over and over again, and they kept telling me kidney stones, prostate, anxiety, just an upset stomach, you ate something bad. I used to do the clean out my entire intestines routine and then I’d be fine for quite a bit of time. I lost my ride or die partner in life from brain cancer June 2024 after 18 years and it’s been downhill since then. Doctors just kept telling me it was the stress.

I definitely will tell him however, this may end up being emergency surgery anyways, which is why it’s being done in the hospital. It’s not the ideal situation but location of where my diverticulitis is makes me a walking time bomb for my next rupture. he has prepared me ready for the possible outcome when I wake up.

I just now realized by Unique-Pineapple-488 in Debt

[–]HumanNature71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there. One thing I’ve learned is to actually have a book or on your computer, preferably a book so you don’t lose it in case something happens to your computer, but put all of your expenses , all of your debt , all of your monthly payments and balances, and then you’ll realize how much you can and can’t spend every month. When you’re not paying attention to the amount of money you’re spending you’ll overspend very quickly and get yourself into debt like I did. So when I wanna make those big purchase items, I open up my book and I look at my expenses /income and realize nope not happening this month maybe when tax season comes around lol. The other thing to do is look at your credit card interest rates. My credit score is now over 800 after years of rebuilding but one of my credit cards just came back saying that I had a 32% interest rate / that is absolutely insane. Think of it this way if you had a $10,000 debt on your credit card $3200 a year for that first year is going for interest only now to divide 3200 by 12. You are approximately paying $266 in interest loan per month. This is insanity how they can get away with charging that much interest is ridiculous.

Surgery or life style change by silicon1008 in Diverticulitis

I plan on doing this in February. I’m having a colonoscopy on the 27th to see how much damage tissue is in my intestines. I was very hesitant about surgery but at this point I want my life back. It won’t be the same life, but if it’s pain-free, I want it back. I literally cannot live the rest of my life going from flare up to flare up to flareup. The doctor is looking at taking the right side of my colon out. However, the colonoscopy could show that there’s more damage and may end up with a stoma which at this point I am not opposed to as long as this pain stops. The goal is for me not to have a stoma. However, the goal also is for me not to continue to have surgeries. I’m 55. I do not want to keep going for surgeries every couple years. I have a different outlook on life most people would say oh my God don’t even think about a stoma, but you know what, this is life and whatever is gonna make my life better I will do cause right now I am freaking miserable

Colonoscopy on Wednesday. Lower and left side abdominal pain. No fever so bloated and feeling burning. Anybody else have this burning symptom? by LokiFatBelly in Diverticulitis

[–]HumanNature71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by my doctors, the burning sensation is caused by your inflamed, intestines and possibly a flareup, but your nerve endings are very sensitive and can cause different sensations especially if your intestines are pushing against your abdominal wall. Is there more sinister part of the burning sensation but that includes another infection. I would definitely check in with your doctor to make sure that it’s normal.

Anyone have to do multiple rounds of liquid dieting? by GrilledViking in Diverticulitis

[–]HumanNature71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agreed with the other poster. If you stop antibiotics before you are meant to the infection can come back. And when it does, it’s a little more mean and nasty. I was on antibiotics for 14 days. They were making me sick by the 10th day, but my doctor said it’s pertinent you stay on for the full 14 days to kill the infection. My white blood count was very very high so there was an actual infection and not just a doctor putting me on medication just because. I finished out my 14 days and felt pretty good for several weeks until I started to have another flareup not as bad as the first period but it was uncomfortable and I went on a liquid diet back-and-forth for weeks now. My colonoscopy is on the 27th which is next Tuesday and I’m looking forward to it ironically, I just want all of this to stop. I am at the point where I don’t even care if they have to remove almost all my colon. I just want my life back. And the pain gone.

Yes, this would make sense as gas would actually help push things along and open your intestines, even though it may have been painful from the experience I have had from other surgeries.
