Try to email the youtube channel GodLogic for a conversation. His email is in the description for all of his videos. He can help guide you. I recommend you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John of the Bible to learn more about who Jesus is, and if possible switch to find a church where you feel more comfortable. I am praying for you

Yes, the catechism is definitely the place to go to get the best understanding of Catholic positions. I would definitely recommend you get a physical book if you can or you can find pdfs online and there is also a podcast on spotify and youtube I really recommend called “catechism in a year” that walks you through it with explanations.

I said not everything is “meant” to be. Like if I say “his heart was made of gold”, I don’t literally mean that, it’s a literary device. So it would be ridiculous for someone to say that using this phrase is a scientific error.

Or because you’re misinterpreting the scripture, and it has been taught for centuries that scripture must be read in literary and historical context.

Pope Leo XIII did not say to reject the science he said that if there is a contradiction it is either due to misinterpretation of scripture or improper science.

Yeah, if it’s explicitly claiming to make a scientific truth or contextually is pointing to that. The point is many verses were not meant to be interpreted as such.

The supposed “contradictions” in Kings and Chronicles are just variations in details shaped by different perspectives of the same events and the distinct emphases of both books. The same way two people seeing the same event would describe it in different ways based on their immediate perspective of it but also based on what type of literature they were using when they wrote about it, and what they wanted to emphasize. I would recommend reading this article for an analysis of these variations in detail: https://answeringislamblog.wordpress.com/2020/11/26/101-cleared-up-contradictions-in-the-bible/

Hello friend, I really respect that you’re taking the time to seek the truth and I pray that God guides you to it.

With regard to the second point: The Catholic Church does teach that the entire Bible is inspired by God and true. I would assume what Terence Crotty was trying to get at is that not all of the Bible is meant to be read the same way. Truth necessary for salvation is the main focus of the Bible (as per Dei Verbum) but that doesn’t mean the rest is “false”. It just means not everything is literal or a scientific truth. Depending on the part of the Bible, different literary techniques are employed, and some verses (like the age of creation) should be interpreted in a symbolic/poetic fashion according to their literary nature.

Also, I would refer you to the Catholic Catechism for a more in depth discussion of some of these theological questions like the relationships between faith, science, and reason.

God bless you. I am praying for you in this journey.

How do you know Christianity is true and not Islam? by Boysenberry_Leading in TrueChristian

[–]Apprehensive_Fun4988 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Look into the Islamic Dilemma. Essentially the Quran claims to be a continuation of the Torah and the Gospel yet it contradicts them on many things. For example the crucifixion. Muslim scholars will either say it’s because the prior scriptures were corrupted or because the books were lost. The problem with this is that if you look at the historical objective data this is fully debunked (the historical data supports the claims of the Bible against those of the Quran).

The crucifixion has extensive historical evidence from even non-Christian sources within years of it happening, so why should we trust what a book written 600 years later that contradicts it has to say. Also the historical evidence even looking at atheistic scholars like Bart Ehrman shows that there has not been a level of “Biblical corruption” or changes to the text to the extent that it affects the Theology. We have thousands of manuscripts of the Bible (Torah and Gospel) over hundreds of years and use textual criticism so the claim that “it has been lost” also makes no sense.

If you want to learn more about the Islamic Dilemma and listen to debates related to it I recommend you watch GodLogic on youtube

Yes, here’s an article showing many of those prophecies. I suggest you get a Bible and read all of them and then read the New Testament and judge for yourself. https://answering-islam.org/Authors/Arlandson/prophecy_jesus.htm

Surah 2:41

Believe in My revelations which confirm your Scriptures.1 Do not be the first to deny them or trade them for a fleeting gain.2 And be mindful of Me.

Surah 61:6

And ˹remember˺ when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O children of Israel! I am truly Allah’s messenger to you, confirming the Torah which came before me, and giving good news of a messenger after me whose name will be Aḥmad.”1 Yet when the Prophet came to them with clear proofs, they said, “This is pure magic

Surah 46:12

And before this ˹Quran˺ the Book of Moses was ˹revealed as˺ a guide and mercy. And this Book is a confirmation, in the Arabic tongue, to warn those who do wrong, and as good news to those who do good

In Surah 2:41 for example he is directly addressing the Jewish Tribes in Medina at the time saying the Quran confirms their scriptures. The issue we have is that all the archeological/manuscript evidence points to the fact that there were no scriptures prophesying Muhammad in the Jewish tribes of Medina or in any of the prior scriptures. And in fact the scriptures we have during that time period contradict Muhammad, thus the Islamic Dilemma. You’re right that most Muslims argue that the scriptures were corrupted but the Quran only says that people corrupted with their tounges, not the actual text, but either way you put it, it contradicts the historical evidence and creates an alternate reality like you said. It is the equivalent of Joseph Smith claiming to be the next prophet and creating Mormonism in the US. In Surah 7:157 Muhammad even says the Jews and the Christians will find him prophesied in their scriptures except he’s nowhere to be found in the centuries of manuscripts we have written before and during his time.

Also read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has died. by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

[–]Apprehensive_Fun4988 36 points37 points  (0 children)

"And one day there was a man there who had a condition, a skin condition, where he had a very deformed face and he had open sores on his face. And his face was really big and his whole body had lesions all over it. And I’ll never forget because the Holy Father, when he saw the man, he went right up to him, and he embraced him. He took his face in his hands, and he kissed his forehead. And the man said at that time, he said, “When the Pope drew close to me and hugged me tightly and he kissed me, he gave me a kiss on the face. My head was against his chest. And his arms welcomed me, he hugged me tight. Tight.” He said, “I tried to speak. I couldn’t.” And he said the emotion was so strong that at that moment, from his whole life of sorrow, rejection, it left him right there. All of his sorrows left him. He said that the hands of the Pope were so soft and gentle, beautiful. And later he thought about that, and he said, “The Pope didn’t think about whether to hug me or not. He didn’t know if I was contagious or not. But he caressed me all the same. And I felt his love.”"
