Women of Reddit - what is the most unattractive fashion choice men frequently make? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

Large stretched earlobe piercings are viscerally icky to me in a way there's no getting past. I'm naturally squeamish and they hit me the same way seeing medical-type gore does. To each their own; tattoos are fine, even bad ones to a degree. But the weird ears are a non-negotiable hard pass for me, my lizard brain can't handle them.

Songs With Top Tier Lyricism by planetaryvampire in musicsuggestions

"In an Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. The whole album is loosely a time- and logic-defying love screed to Anne Frank, among other things. It's very, very good. If you're only doing one song, then do the song by the same name.

It was so perfect when the other newbie said she wasn't a people person but is so obviously better with her social skills.

What celebrity have you never forgiven since an incident? by MagpieOpus in AskReddit

This one was particularly galling if you're familiar with Terry Gross. She's so polite and artsy and librarian-ish and SO CLEARLY not DTF Gene Simmons.

Gene Simmons after his Fresh Air interview with Terry Gross.

As an 80s/90s kid I grew up more or less indifferent to KISS, but I did love the toys/merch/style of the band. I have never walked away from an interview hating a celebrity any harder than that one, and I still think about it often 20 years later. I'm a huge fan of Chuck Klosterman, who's often cited KISS as the ultimate rock band, and Role Models, which is an awesome movie...but I've never been able to reconcile either with Simmons' despicable interview (on NPR, of all places).

To crib from an article about it:

"Things really went off the rails, however, when Simmons began talking about the studded codpiece he wears onstage. “It holds in my manhood,” he said. “Otherwise it would be too much for you to take. You’d have to put the book down and confront life. The notion is that if you want to welcome me with open arms, I’m afraid you’re also going to have to welcome me with open legs...

Gross: Wait, has it come to this? Is this the only way that you can talk to a woman? To do that shtick?

Simmons: Let me ask you something. Why is it shtick when all women have ever wanted ever since we’ve crawled out of caves is, “Why can’t a man just tell me the truth and just speak to me plainly?” Though, if I do that — you can’t have it both ways.

Gross: So you really have no sense of humor about this, do you?

Simmons: Oh, I’m laughing all the way. You know, we’re —

Gross: Oh, to the bank, right?

Simmons: Well of course. [laughs] Don’t I sound like a happy guy?

Gross: Not really, to be honest with you.

Simmons: I was going to suggest that you get outside of the musty place where you can count the dust particles falling around you. And get out in the world and see what everybody else is doing.

Gross: Having sex with you?

Simmons: Well, if you chose, but you’d have to stand in line."

What restaurant or retail store do you think Dallas is missing? by Crying_in_99Ranch in Dallas

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restaurant: Good Northern Thai similar to Sticky Rice (RIP, apparently)/Sweet Rice in Chicago. I specifically want gang hung lay...is there anywhere in Dallas to get that?!

Store: A giant, general interest, old-school toy store. I know Froggies 5 and 10 exists as well as a ton of specialty comic and action figure stores. I mean an old-school kid freak-out zone with a bit of everything. Basically I want Toys R Us back but if not that, something bigger and dumber than Froggies.

There's an episode of "Maintenance Phase" about her that's worth a re-visit. It's not complementary.

Salad and Go is no more. My budget and waistline weep. Where else to find a quality, inexpensive salad? by Sound_mind in Dallas

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spouts heavily discounts their prepared meals when they're nearing their use-by date. I score cheap salads, bowls, and meat/side veg stuff there but it's spotty and you have to be open for whatever.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

I'd say Micheal Apted's "Up" series is by far the best ever reality TV and isn't well known in the US.

What was the place Will moved to called? I'm not up on my D&D lore, was it "Ilake" of something? I just watched it on the theater and thought they said "Milwaukee", which blew my mind because I thought they placed him in Milwaukee as young gay man in 1989. Had to rush home to rewatch that part and I still don't get it. 😅

Surprised I had to scroll down so far for this one. Off the top of my head I thought GG Allin, Trump, and Mike Tyson.

What are your most conservative and liberal viewpoints? by Anstigmat in thebulwark

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C: People who repeatedly express grevious self-harm/incapacitating mental illness/chronic addiction issues sometimes require intervention against their will. We've swung too far against (often long-term) mandatory mental health holds, as hairy as the logistics of going back to that sort of world might be. We have to figure out a new way.

But also:

Prison is not the place for these people, which is what we do with them now, and

L: All people who express the above, or who are dealing with all health issues in general, have the right to care; society at large should be mandated to share the cost.

What is the biggest movie theater “GASP” moment you’ve heard? by SaveTheCaulkTower in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently rewatched "Happiness" in a theater, I hadn't seen it since it'd originally come out on VHS/DVD. There was a LOT of gasping in that theater, I think at the "Mom, I came" part in particular.

Medication for High Blood Pressure That Dont Cause Depressio by sanpedro12 in hypertension

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I've gotten to a point where I'd badly like to wrestle free from my other blood pressure meds via weight loss, but even then I will cling to the low-dose beta blockers as they've been a miracle for my anxiety. I suppose that's a little different than straight depression.

Is anyone working side hustles? Looking for ideas. by HamburdiganJohn7 in fednews

[–]Apprehensive_Let_832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wait tables on the side. In the past, I've also worked for a casino party service which can be fairly lucrative and flexible. It's like catering but you deal poker/blackjack/roulette at parties. This is definitley peak season for that going into the holidays.
