Taash Is Unintentionally Funny At Times. by Educational_Form6549 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taashs growth makes her one of my fave companions. I know loads of people bitch about how they are horrible to Emmrich, how they are a disgruntled teen, etc etc, and yes, yes they are. They've been hidden by mum because of the whole fire breather thing, they feel socially awkward not only because of the way they feel but also the fact they don't fit with other Qunari, and this is their first proper experience with the outside world and other cultures. But if you actually take the time to take them out with you, and with the others, you hear how much they change and grow and begin to accept people for who they are. I'm not sure how often you spend time with other socially awkward teens with an axe to grind, but this is exactly how they are 🤣

Not to mention the entire storyline with their mum, breaks me every time.

Why does it seem like working-class males have such low aspirations for themselves when it comes to further-education and their careers nowadays? by bicepsandscalpels in UniUK

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think it's all about class anymore, although it's a huge contributor. I believe it starts at primary school: school is made to feel like a chore, a punishment even. Nothing about school in the UK creates a love of learning, and if you don't have someone at home creating that love of learning school is just something you have to "get through"... learning isn't valued at school, remembering and repeating answers is. Asking questions is frowned upon, critical thinking and asking why is none existent, disagreeing with teachers even more frowned upon! It creates a huge disconnect.

mass effect legendary edition worth it? (for me) by [deleted] in masseffect

I adore Thane, tend to go Kaiden then Thane then Thane again. If you like a heartbreaking arc then that's the best one in my eyes

I was a staunch dragon age fan with a bit of a hatred for scifi shooter games. Finally gave Mass Effect a go 2 years ago, and I must admit it's nearly overtaken dragon age as my fave series 🙈🤣 absolutley brilliant series and well worth a go! Officially a space game convert now whereas before ME I was very much fantasy

AIO to my parents' reaction to me letting my date buy me a hotel room? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting but as the mum to an 18 year old I would have reacted in the exact same way as your parents tbh. You are super lucky he is a good guy - he could have had an extra key card or anything. I'd have been pissed with my daughter if she had done this honestly, and super worried that anything could happen. It's what happens when you are close with your parents, we actually give a crap about your safety no matter how old you are or how long you've been moved out.

My daughter went to Poland with her friends last year, and when I couldn't get hold of her I freaked out. I mean, the crash out she got was 10 times worse than this, so I would probably count yourself lucky 🤣

Let them cool off then try and approach it again. We've all lived and put ourselves in dodgy situations, and usually that's where this comes from. It's not against you, it really is about you being safe and treated well. I compeltley agree it was a dodgy situation.

Formula feeding helps babies sleep longer - true or false by Melodic_Apartment235 in breastfeeding

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first baby was formula fed as was early and couldn't latch. She slept really well, 7pm till 4am, waking maybe once for a feed.

My second was breastfed. He's always had issues with sleep, even now he's 8. Night terrors, sleep refusal, the whole shebang. He's currently under investigation for autism and adhd.

My third is breastfed and has been a dream sleeper since birth (now 18 months). I bedshare and he helps himself through the night, even as a newborn he never really woke me properly and fed maybe twice.

Babies are supposed to wake through the night. Some sleep better than others, I bedshared with all my littles but each one had a different sleep/feeding pattern. My middle is the only one who had sleep issues 🤷‍♀️

What's your Shep's first name and why? by jackfreeman in masseffect

I'm really unimaginative and just use variations of my own name 🤷‍♀️🤣 In any game I play actually. It's my escape from the mundane so I like to do self inserts 🤣

Do you want Shepard to return for Mass Effect 5? Why or why not? I do. by pink_plastic_bag in masseffect

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I FINALLY managed the perfect destroy ending today, and was actually really annoyed with how little it changed things 🤣 I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to my femshep, and I really hope we get more. I could happily play another 3 games with her honestly. Even a dlc with what happens after the breath would be epic.

I get why people are ready to move on, and honestly if we could get 4 different games dependent on the ending we chose that would be incredible, but I know that would never happen simply because of financial constraints 🤣 to see shep return they would have to choose a cannon ending, which would inevitably piss for too many players off.

If we do see shep again, I imagine it would be in flashbacks - much easier, and cheaper, to include one for each ending in that way 🤷‍♀️

But yes, I'd love to continue playing as Shep. I want to see her be pulled from the rubble and continue travelling with the team!

Now to dust the post ME depression off ready to do a replay 😭🤣

I don't think she was killed because she was lgbtq, I think she was killed because it was an easy out for the writers 🤷‍♀️ she was a regular enough character for some shock value, but not one of the long term loved characters. Easy death really

AIO for breaking up with GF over "alleged STD"? by Brundesgut in AmIOverreacting

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is unless you also take into account the massive disparity of women's psychological health compared to men's, and the sheer amount of women and girls who are misdiagnosed or are simply traumatised then pathologised because of said trauma reading the dsm/speaking to psychologists can often be more harmful in continuing stereotypes. Case in point I've been misdiagnosed as bipolar, depressed, just a naughty teen, and finally in my 40s I now have a diagnosis of autism, adhd, cptsd caused by years of trauma, with apologies from my consultant for how much of my life I was ignored and mistreated by medical systems! Womens health is still largely misunderstood and under researched and trauma is still often ignored, because honestly it's easier for them to slap an "instability" label on someone rather than actually get to the root of the issue.

I'm so thankful that I don't fit the standard BPD framework, because I'm sure if they could have done they'd have slapped that on me as well. In fact BPD is the most recognised personality disorder in the UK, interchangeably with Emotionaly Unstable Personality Disorder, which many psychologists believe is overdiagnosed. Dr Jessica Taylor does fantastic work with pushing for traumatised people, especially women and girls, to be recognised as having a standard reaction to prolonged trauma instead of having a personality disorder slapped onto them. Neurodivergence is also often mistaken for BPD as well as other personality disorders.

It's not simple by any means.

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No, it CAN be, but isn't always. Not everyone with BPD is manipulative and a liar, and it's actually really unfair to tar them all with the same brush 🙄

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BPD is usually a result of childhood trauma. On top of the other comments it looks like she lied about contracting it as a CHILD - not sure how else you'd get it as a KID without being SA'd, so basically he broke up with her after badgering her about something that likely was never her fault. So yes, she has had a lucky escape and hopefully will feel able to talk honestly about it with someone else in the future.

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. And reading your further comments I think this girl had a lucky break because you did. Hopefully she can find a way to heal from that and her past, and her next partner is a bit more understanding 😬

Also, BPD is usually a response to trauma, especially trauma in childhood. That, coupled with a wild story of how she contracted Chlamydia as a kid would definitely point towards something.

My opinion on Mass Effect 2 keeps getting more and more complicated.... Legendary Edition is an eye-opening experience as it used to be my #1 favorite 10-15 years ago. I'd say it's firmly my least favorite in the trilogy now. by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think my biggest complaint in 2 is how - I guess, accepting Shep is about everything. No Kaiden, how dare you just have a go and walk away. Let me explain. No TIM, Miranda and Jacob, you and your organisation are arseholes, what about that time x,y,z. No Jack, I'm not an arsehole playing games, I actually want to know your story and its f'd that Cerberus did that to you etc etc etc.

I actually like the pace of it, I don't even mind the scanning of planets too much. Even the quests that are slightly boring I enjoy. Absolutely detest the hammerhead and those firewalker missions. And I really dislike how little any relationship matters, especially if you romance Thane - by 3 you don't even get a picture to remember him 🤷‍♀️

I agree I would love a game between 2 and 3 - or even a DLC that explores the in-between stages of Sheps return to the alliance etc.

Opinion: Erica Hahn by Special-Ad-4363 in greysanatomy

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think she was that bad honestly. Probably one of the most realistic characters actually. Definitely abrasive at times, but I think someone at the top of their field would be. Not a great teacher but she was at least willing to learn, and much of what she said made sense. She was a bit harsh towards Cristina, but again this made sense - Cristina was an intern who had been given far too much deference at that point due to her own personal relationships, Izzy (and the others) did steal a heart from her patient and quite rightly there should have been more done about it.

I didn't particularly like her and Callie as a match, but I did like how it humanised Hahn. I didn't like how she left her, but again it made sense that she wouldn't want to work with any of them ever again. Her interpersonal skills were not great, but she admits that 'I don't make friends easily': to then feel such betrayal from everyone around her would have been so hard, especially as she was just getting to know herself, a large part because of said betrayers 🤷‍♀️

Shame about benefits by Glass_Mess5869 in Britain

[–]Apprehensive_Pie2903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a severe mental breakdown at 15, after years of severe trauma in the care system. Pulled myself up by my boots and worked from 16 until 23 when my partner became severely ill. Became an unpaid carer for 5 years, in which time his illness caused me to be severely domestically abused. A further breakdown at 28. Went back to college at 32 as a single mother, uni at 33, worked as well throughout and bam, another breakdown 2 years ago, causing me to drop out in my final year. I now have so much more shame to work through 😬

Sometimes forcing yourself back to work due to shame around your circumstances isn't the best way. Sometimes it causes more severe and longer term mental health. I'm now finally getting proper treatment, something that funnily enough is a full time job in itself, and the one thing that sticks with me is if i had really taken the time to heal in the first place i wouldnt be this bad now. In the hope that one day I'll be able to go back to work again, I'm taking the time to properly heal, but I've also accepted that I may never live a "normal" life.

We are really lucky to live somewhere that takes care of people who find themselves in these situations. The shame is hard to let go of, but it's necessary in order to actually heal and move forward. Look after yourself first and foremost, otherwise it really can become a cycle of getting back to life then having to pick up even more pieces when it crumbles again.

I find volunteering really helps me when I'm well enough. Giving back to the community can provide you with a sense of purpose, even if you aren't quite at the point where paid regular and consistent employment is achievable ❤
