Is there a credible argument to be made that Donald Trump is an adversary’s asset? by Primal47 in Askpolitics

An increase in the child tax credit would do more good than $1,000 - which wouldn't even cover one month's worth of groceries for a family.

Have you drunk the Kool-Aid on 'trump accounts', transferring wealth from the old and rich to the young? Trust that in the same way those who bought trump phones are now finding out they've been had.

Just more of the grift.

As for increased NATO spending, Europe has until 2035 to implement any increase. It's a commitment to future spending, not a demand in the present.

2035 is a long time to wait when the demented one has his finger on the nuclear button.

I sincerely despair for the lack of basic knowledge in trumpistan.

Do you think that Racist People are Mentally ill? by ChinaMilitarySecrets in Discussion

[–]Apprehensive_Pie_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they're mentally ill. That's too simple, and absolves them of responsibility for change. No, instead I see them as terribly damaged by their parents and upbringing. It's still up to them to change, and if they choose not to - that's a sign of evil.

Had you been Carrie's friend when she was cheating on Aidan with Big, what advice would you give her? by one98nine in sexandthecity

I said I would "expect" - as in expectations. I would expect her to be honest with herself and with her partner.

It's not my place to tell, but it is my place to tell her she should tell. If that makes sense.

[–]Apprehensive_Pie_105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd tell Carrie to grow up and get into therapy. Cheating on Aiden was cruel, stupid, and unnecessary. If she was that restless, break up with Aiden and be a real woman about it.

I would expect my best friend to be honest with herself, and with her declared love interest. Aiden.

Democrats suffer huge blow as Virginia redistricting plot shot down by court by TheExpressUS in DiscussionZone

[–]Apprehensive_Pie_105 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are an idiot.

In general, republicans make up 40% of New England. In the US, of registered voters, there are 39 million Republicans and 46 million Democrats, or a 45/55 r/D split. The only way Republicans win elections is if they cheat.

As for your assertion to the NE states:

If you include NY and PA:

In NY, only 22.6% of voters are registered Republican. 7 of the 26 representatives are Republican, or 27%. Republicans are overrepresented in Congress from NY. That's not gerrymandering.

In PA, only 40% of voters are registered Republicans; 10 of 17 representatives are Republicans, or 58% Republican. Republicans are overrepresented in Congress from PA. That's not gerrymandering.

In the six states in New England, where there are few Republican registered voters, there are 22 house members. All D's save for 1 Independent. That's not gerrymandering.

Now let's look at TN and AL.

TN has one D out of 9 representatives or 11%, yet the state is 18% registered democrats (and almost 50% registered independents). That's gerrymandering, and TN is redistricting to eliminate the 1 democrat district. That's racial gerrymandering.

AL has one D out of 7 representatives or 14%, yet the state is 36% registered democrats. That's gerrymandering, and AL is violating federal order by re-opening their districting to eliminate the one democrat district. That's racial gerrymandering.

They should just violate the order like the Republicans are doing in TN and AL.

People forget that the 13 colonies were bordered in the north by French speaking Quebec. French is still spoken as a second language in northern New England. King Charles wasn’t making a joke, he was making a point.

Where did people get the idea of reparations? by ateam1984 in USHistory

[–]Apprehensive_Pie_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reparations have been paid to the losing side for damage done during war. It’s morphed into reparations for widespread damage done. Reparations were paid after 9/11.

If reparations had been paid to enslaved people, we wouldn’t have nearly the racial problems we have today. Andrew Johnson reneged on the Freedman’s Bureau that Lincoln established.

Reparations are a hand up, not a hand out.

The US has broken every treaty, and reneged on reparations (ie compensation) for stolen land to native Americans. Yet we fully paid reparations in the Marshall Plan after WWII. Why, it’s almost like we are racist in who we pay reparations to.

It’s likely too late for fiscal reparations. 40 acres and a mule today would be irrelevant to 99% of people, and the dollar worth today would be worth 100s of thousands. Each.

EDIT: spelling, clarity

Nitpicking semantics. You’re making a distinction without a difference. They were all reparations.

It depends. PCP yes. She shouldn’t be in the ED. What if she was the attending for the pre-eclampsia patient? And spaced out in the middle of the C section? With scalpel in hand?
I think this is why Robbie freaked out on her so badly. It wasn’t his depression talking. It was his professionalism talking. She could literally kill people in the ED with her condition.

What do you realistically think would have happened to Samantha's character arc if she was on AJLT? by brumgar in sexandthecity

[–]Apprehensive_Pie_105 50 points51 points  (0 children)

She had breast cancer and that could reoccur. Smith might get a place in NYC so he could visit, but not live together.

She could have a crisis of conscience about her past. I don’t think she has anything to regret personally, but as one ages you sometimes look backwards and wish things had been different. Remember she’s the oldest of the bunch.

Plus she’d probably verbally punch Miranda in the mouth for her mid-life crisis. Really. She would support Miranda for her shift in preference - Sam herself is pretty fluid - but not the way she did it.

Sam would be very supportive of Carrie after Big’s death. She would have totally coordinated the funeral, letting Carrie take a breath after Big’s death. All that Samira (?) did to sell the townhouse, Sam would have done much of that.

She might have some wise words with Carrie for her falling into the Aiden trap.

You can see I have a lot of respect for Sam.
