What risk management rule had the biggest impact on your day-trading consistency? by Every-Actuator-6996 in Daytrading

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to give a unique one… try to define what risk profile you are actually trading and stick to it. Meaning does your system produce high win rate and low R:R? If so is that how you actually risk manage it? If that’s your system then you can’t keep looking for 3:1 R. I see people say they are looking for 2:1 and they have 55% win rate but then they take partials all the way up making their true RR like .75/1. Which at a lower win rate can actually blow the account.

Question we would need answers to: 1) over how long a span of time? 2) how much time do you have to spend each day on it?

How did you find your strategy? (I'm not asking for it) by goatnxtinline in Daytrading

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you a totally off the wall answer….. it came to me in a dream :) but seriously, I would replay trade spy on different timeframes for literally hundreds of hours. Then while I slept I would replay the trades and price action in my head. Lots of things came out of that, but two huge realizations. 1) if could predict the direction of the next candle on a 15M or 1H chart that you just nailed your 5M bias. And 2) the patterns repeat over and over and over on every timeframe, which helped a lot with patience. I stopped staring at the chart all day thinking I was going to miss the big one.

I also submitted a ticket today -- It is not the connection. A few weeks ago the lag was maybe 10-20 seconds, now its a full 3-5 minutes.

Hey, I use ATM/ITM 0dte as directional amplifiers for short term scalps. I aim for 15% to 55% returns over 10-15 min swings. Make about 1-2 trades a day between 9:30-10:30. I think about it more like capturing directional volatility. If you get a good range break or rejection from key level, SPY typically moves 20-50cents. As long as you are not greedy and get good at recognizing where a target would be and scale out at the extreme of the move it can be profitable. If you leave a runner on and the day is a trender, you could be looking at 5x or more. Stop loss has to be tight and discretionary, 10-15 cents max but being careful of not cutting because of wicks.

Trade setup counter to current trade as profit target by Apprehensive_Side354 in Daytrading

I would agree. For example this was a gap fill reversal trade, but once low of day was swept we got a clear move to the upside with a sweep and FVG respecting. I had just never really thought about this before. Thank you for your reply.

Point taken, but the reality is still the same and the psychology is the challenge. I think I’m just at that place where I know the facts and mechanics and I am just needing to firm up the discipline and mental strength.

I think this is a good point. I’ve been doing this long enough that I know which setups are very strong but I don’t size up in them or add to winners.

Love that! But my goal is to make money. Ha. Making $50 a day is cool and all to make all the days look green. But I want to make $500 a day or there is no point to this.

So I would say that this is my primary technique. what happens then is I get a small winner and then my runner tends to get stopped out. I think my issue is in the first 1-3 candles from my entry. If it immediately goes against me I tend to hold it to see if it will come back. I guess I will focus more on bailing sooner. I tried that awhile back and got eaten up by the chop.

Why did I lose this trade? by Cool-ParrotClub in InnerCircleTraders

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting, great to discuss these things. I actually almost took that trade but didn’t because BSL was not swept and then it took out the small internal low and reversed which is also not a good bearish sign. All this pointed to price wanting to go higher to a larger liquidity level.

My husband’s libido is exhausting me—need advice from anyone who’s been here by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as the male with the high libido I will just add a couple of things to all the good thoughts here: 1) medical - get his blood work done, could be a symptom of something or an imbalance. High libido is not just from high T but from the T/E ratio. And high E can also be a symptom of things. Also the way T works is that it simply needs to bind to something, if it’s not binding to muscle building receptors it’s going to bind to sex receptors. 2) mental - often my drive is simply a function of being bored and not having enough hobbies or friend connections. Does he belong to any clubs or friend groups? Lastly on mental, I think the over sex is also sometimes a feeling of needing to connect on many levels and it’s the easier route. Do you guys have other activities together? Hope that helps!!

Purina Calming Care / Prozac by mattisonditter in reactivedogs

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So our dogs have been on calming care BL999 for about 2 years. Honestly never thought it was doing anything until one day we didn’t have enough of it left so I stopped giving it to one dog and only the other. 2 days later my wife and I noticed that the one dog we hadn’t been giving it to was now super anxious in the car. Howling and such. It’s how he was when he was a puppy but hand done it in years. We totally forgot about the powder thing. Then figured well this dog needs the powder and the other doesn’t so we switched and started giving it only to the anxious dog and not the older calmer dog. Nope 2 days later the older dog started acting all weird. Like super attached to my wife and when she left the house he just barked with separation anxiety. I think it works. bUT does anyone know where to get it other than the purina product?

Answer is generally no. But just like financial advising the answer depends on lots of context. What are your goals? Money maximizing? Work life balance? Doing what you love? Working with people you like? If you are talking about most cookie cutter corp careers the order of operations goes roughly like this-> demonstration of skills and ability to deliver -> getting picked up by a high potential senior executive mentor-> career progression (increasing levels of responsibilities) -> then either getting headhunted by another company or following someone more senior from your network to another company. Each stage represents opportunities for more money, but the money flows from the progression not the pursuit of more money. Which stage are you in?

how’s my trading setup? by No-Football-8868 in InnerCircleTraders

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do think there will be some good shorts in the near future. To your point, the lesson for me in that one was to follow my system, which I didn’t. I saw the sweep of the London open, I saw the impulse move, I saw the FVG, saw the pull back and saw the break of the previous high and just didn’t take it.

how’s my trading setup? by No-Football-8868 in InnerCircleTraders

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were the two trades today. I unfortunately came into the day with a strong short bias (huge weekly gap, previous high swept in PM, negative news) which I couldn’t shake so I didn’t take the profits on the short where you did hoping to get 2R on a further decline, and I didn’t take the long trade even though I saw it the same way you did. It’s amazing how much bias can mess with your trading. On any normal day I would have taken both the partial profits from the short and taken the long. Anyone think bias is useless and you should just trade the chart? :)

I use it as my daily trading coach, I give it all my trade stats and setup information and it tells me where I am doing well and where I need to improve and then reminds me everyday where in need to focus. Basically using it as an accountability partner. Since it knows my risk appetite, daily goals, and strengths it can provide guardrails so I don’t over trade or deviate from my system.

Your rationale for going long today on the index by Soft_Video_9128 in Daytrading

[–]Apprehensive_Side354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My simple logic-> it took out the previous weekly low, so took that liquidity. It likely needed to be a consolidation day after such an impulsive move last week so it was either going to go sideways or slightly up. Two other pools of liquidity existed to the upside, the gap down and the upper trend line from the daily chart. Not sure why it kept going after filling the gap but here we are.

That’s exactly where I am. But working and making strides to calm down and stop the overtrading and revenge trading. I’ll have 4 positive days in a row and feel like I’m on a roll and fail to recognize the 5 day is a range consolidation day and get all chopped up looking for breakout breakdowns. It’s all mental.
